For me, Spandau Ballet's best song that showcased Tony's vocal range and talent was "Through the Barricades." It's a very emotional song, about two young lovers , one from Northern Ireland, and one from Ireland , that had to meet and love each other sneaking through the warzone. Part of the chorus, " And we made our love on wasteland and through the barricades ." It's a very powerful song, heart wrenching, but at the end with some hope, as they signed a peace deal when they were writing the song, so he was hopeful things would work out and The Troubles would end.

Oh my!....Spandau it literally my favorite band of the 80's. They actually have about three "eras" of their music. Their early music when they were playing in the clubs was long, loud and fast. Then there was this particular era you are listening to now from "Gold" through "Parade" that was called their "landscape" era. Superb era. After that it got pretty eclectic....but through it all Tony Hadleys' vocals have ALWAYS been stellar! You should hear then live. There are two complete live performances one from 1987 (the height of 80's style) "Spandau ballet live at the NEC" and another that was about four years later also at the NEC in Birmingham England. The quality, vocals and instruments were superb. I also must state that you can really see and hear how all of the pieces/persons play in these live videos. They are all superb musicians. Steve Norman the Sax player plays a whole range of horns, guitar, drums and percussion. Gary Kemp lead guitarist wrote virtually all of the music. It is really worth looking up these two performances. The early one in 1987 was at the height of 1980's fashion and style. If you had to get one...get that one. They are the height of what was called the "new Romantic" genre. www.ebay.com/itm/295104334892?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=295104334892&targetid=1263104805286&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=9026280&poi=&campaignid=14859008593&mkgroupid=130497710760&rlsatarget=pla-1263104805286&abcId=9300678&merchantid=6550504&gclid=CjwKCAjwpqCZBhAbEiwAa7pXeQzoUIOdSwltzYaD93K7ipDrUnRCCcErWEZq95xHoRF1BCIkUaFbuBoC-LAQAvD_BwE They do not disappoint.

spandau was part of the 'new romantic' movement which included OMD, Japan and Duran Duran. it was mainly about style over substance but all 4 bands knocked it out of the park with only Duran having north american success. OMD has so many great tunes...souvenir, dreaming, maid of orleans, electricity, if you leave. Japan was more 'art rock'. quiet life, life in tokyo, the art of parties, ghosts. definitely a rabbit hole to dive into!

Japan were musically head and shoulders above the other "New Romantic" associated bands. All members were super talents who found their unique voicing on their instruments at a young age (in particularly Mick Karn and Steve Jansen). Many years later, she met Spandau Ballet' guitarist and songwriter Gary Kemp again, fell in love, married and had a son. Sadie went on to star as Lucy in Bram Stroker's Dracula. Spandau`s lead singer Tony Hadley has one of the best voices in pop, there are two brothers in the band,Martin and Gary Kemp,Gary is the songwriter who penned virtually all of the bands hit records and along with his brother also have had fairly decent acting careers too,Gary starred in the film "The Bodygaurd" as Whitney Houstons English manager along with Kevin Costner. Spandau have had many hit records in the UK especially and one I particularly like is "To cut a long story short",which is a superb single!

So, Everything was already said about Tony Hadley's phenomenal voice, but it's worth mentioning the sheer musical excellence of the entire band. In this great song, Steve Norman who is Spandau Ballet's sax player(and he's a really good sax player) is also playing the Bongos (the hand drum Jay mentioned).

Yes one of my favourite bands from the 80's and Tony's voice is even better live. Please check out more Spandau Ballet. So in case no one has told you the lead singer is Tony Hadley he is now out on his own touring singing Spands songs and covers as well as newbies. The bass player is Martin Kemp and on lead guitar and piano is his brother Gary Kemp who did all of the song writing, on drums is John Keeble and lastly on sax is Steve Norman. Please check out Through the Baricades, very poignant and Only when you Leave to start with.

Oh, man. I was on the 2020 80s cruise with Tony Hadley, and his voice is still amazing, maybe even better.

I absolutely loved Spandau Ballet, what a prominent voice of the 80s. My personal favorite was "Round and Round" - I hope you get a chance to react to that someday!

You need to do a deeper dive on Spandau, try To Cut A Long Story Short or Chant No1. Both were big hits for them in the 80s
