It was awesome to see this matchup. Of course the Pens and Caps would have several other playoff series against each other over the years, but these guys and these teams were just loaded with skill and firepower. As unfortunate as we were to never see Lemieux vs Gretzky in the playoffs, the Ovi vs Sid rivalry has always been good.

I remember this series well. At the time I was a bigger fan of Ovechkni, but this was the series that really made me appreciate what Crosby is all about, pure tenacious, never quit, competitiveness. That goal in a losing effort where he hacked at rebound after rebound after rebound, and swatted it in out of the air sums it up. Such a Crosby goal. Huge fan of his ever since, and Ovi too. We were so lucky to watch these incredible and completely different talents battle each other over the last 2 decades.

round 1 in 2011 with vancouver and chicago was insane with the blackhawks recovering from a 3-0 deficit to force game 7, the first round of the 2012 playoffs too with the capitals and the defending cup champion bruins was epic and the 2015 cup finals was insane with the first 5 games being one goal games! The 2016 conference final was dope too except game 7 seeing the lightning come 1 win short from back to back stanley cup finals. Also, round 3 in 2018 between the bolts and caps was dope with the caps clinching their spot in the finals for the first time since the late 90s and the firs time in the ovechkin-backstrom era! The 2010s was a treat to see old rivals go up and even new ones be created!
