Tyra's handling of Asperger's hurts me very much. I have it too and I act like Heather. This season disappointed me with how they handled Heather. Yes it may be easier for us to look at a imaginary person of screen then to look at the judges. I would do the same thing. In my opinion, its about how comfortable and trusting we feel in a situation. The judging panel isn't the most comfortable place to be in so we might not act right. Heather is a role model for us with Autism.

They way they treated Heather (and other models with disabilities especially Amanda cycle 3) was terrible. They always expect them to act as if they are able bodied with no accommodations, when they ask for accommodations they are told "you can't have special treatment". They are manipulated into thinking they can't get help for their disability because they'd have an "unfair advantage" instead of yk- helping them perform equally well as the able-bodied people. Genuinely don't understand Tyra's line of questioning to Heather with Aspergers. Having difficulty with eye contact doesn't mean you can't ever focus your eyes. Same. I have lots of friends who are neurodivergent and autistic (I fall under this umbrella a bit myself) and eye contact varies across the board. @unclesquirrelstache74313 жыл бұрын
I am on the autism spectrum, and eye contact for me is overwhelming. I often look away and into the figurative distance to help me concentrate if I’m having a conversation. Heather looking to the side really has nothing to do with eye contact. Tyra’s comment doesn’t offend me, but she is taking what little she knows about the disorder and misapplying it, and trying to make it seem like she knows a lot about the subject. As with everything, autism effects people with it and manifests itself in different ways, but she is generalizing. This cycle aired years ago, so it’s hard to judge Tyra when Asperger’s was a new subject to many.

I think she's perceptive, it's a great quality because she wants to understand. She'd be a great student, with the right mentor but sadly she got antm level mentors. Judges really think they can make hanging random comments they can't even explain themselves 😂 it makes them look like they don't even know what they're saying, and their experience don't even back up what they say

According to the Oliver Twixt interviews he did with Jenah, Ambreal, Lisa, Sarah, Bianca and Chantal and they all said one thing...Victoria not only was hip to it, she learned of her own accord how it was set up, but she called them OUT! When I said them I mean Twiggy, Tyra AND most importantly production, in panel at that! She blew up their entire spot! And unfortunately we will never get to see it

I've watched at LEAST 10 of your reaction videos.. GURL YES!!! Your sarcasm is 🔥 We tend to get so caught up in just watching these competition shows and never hear another point of view. The fact that you're a photographer and u work behind the beauty is fantastic. I thank you SO much for making these trash shows be broken down. ❤❤❤

I love your videos. I enjoyed ANTM growing up when I was blind to all the insensitivity of Tyra and her team. I’ve wanted to rewatch the show but I don’t want her or anyone else to profit from the plays. So I’ve decided to watch your videos because I get my fill of ANTM plus all the bonus shade and tea you share with us. Thanks, girl! 😊

I'm on the autism spectrum and i thought it was a pretty nice conversation they had with Heather. Something people with autism often do is worry about how we come across, and being told that I'm doing a good job at masking my autism makes me more comfortable
@pandarose40773 жыл бұрын
im autistic and i don’t find what was said to be a comforting sentiment. being encouraged/ forced to keep masking can be very dangerous- as autistic people, masking can lead to depression and identity issues that can damage us for a lifetime. you wouldn’t apply the same rules to physical disabilities- autism is just as much as a disability just because you can’t see it. masking makes me feel extremely uncomfortable, it’s confusing, painful, and it angers me today when i am expected to “mask up” in situations that i find to be overwhelming or too much for me and all i want to do is stim, or god forbid- break eye contact. what tyra is preaching is a very dangerous sentiment and im sorry that society has let us down so deeply that we have to make *others* feel comfortable and safe before ourselves. this season is a great example how Autistic folk everywhere have been deeply let down by society as a whole and are continually expected to mask and fit into their moulds.
@machoke6663 жыл бұрын
@@pandarose4077 surely feeling let down by society is an experience that most people have? I don't expect the majority to go out of their way to accommodate me, imo minorities should adapt to how the majority are and do things But yeah, regardless, I'm sad to hear how you feel. I can't say i feel the same way you do, but i don't have particular high standards
@pandarose40773 жыл бұрын
@@machoke666 no i stand fully by what i said:) the school system let me down! more than the majority of neurotypical students. health care let me down! misdiagnosed me over 15 times until i figured it out at 32. nope. society fails to educate, and inform that all it takes is a different style of communication, and allowing each person to have that knowledge to help have our needs met- because it’s usually a very minuscule task as example: letting an autistic person stim- or again BREAK EYE CONTACT. these norms are made to work against us, not with us. yes, of course others get pulled under the tow of a crumbling society but nah. this is all miseducation and keeping people aligned to some sort of “norm” that truly doesn’t even exist
@pandarose40773 жыл бұрын
@@machoke666 sadly if you are in the US i would say the country is failing all of its citizens neurodivergent or not - that much is sadly very very true
@pandarose40773 жыл бұрын
however again….it’s the inner working of the system that affect autistic people a little more deeply- my career thru school and working has been extremely traumatic. and thats not on me to correct, that’s the system that needs fixing

I think Tyra's point with her "busted" photos was because Ebony thought she did a bad job and she was trying to explain that sometimes as a model you may think a picture of you doesn't look good but it may be exactly what someone else is looking for

Coming from someone who actually climbs: yeah, this ain't it. -Why are they dangling and holding onto the rope like that? The whole point of climbing is to actually climb, not dangle on a rope in weird ways. The wall might as well not even be there. -You could take much cooler photos (even in the gym) with an actual climber who knows how to do cool poses by using the holds themselves and their own strength/body positioning, not by hanging onto the rope. Just look at any climbing or outdoor publication to see this. If you look at all their photos, there's zero muscle tension, and so they all look copied and pasted on the wall. -I climbed in heels once as a fun screw-around thing with friends and it's not unmanageable if you're using easy holds, but it looks stupid, not edgy.

Aspergers is an outdated term - it should be autism spectrum disorder. A lot of times ppl with ASD have to “mask” their symptoms and often is why it can be hard to diagnose or notice. We will sometimes force eye contact, or try to blend in to be accepted (from my personal experience)

I think it's funny how one of the girls was like "I've never rocked climbed in heels before" but honestly, has anyone ever rocked climbed in before? It was probably all of the girls' first time doing this kind of shoot. In all actuality though, the girls weren't technically "rock climbing" on the wall. It was more like they were posing on a rock climbing wall in a harness and modeling...so, yeah. **side note/spoiler alert; Saleisha actually comes back later in one of the seasons and wins ANTM for that cycle. *Also, Bianca always reminded me of Moesha for some reason. Anyone else think/thought that??
