GTA Online is actually a totally separate game from GTA V. It should be listed separately, so both games can get their own rating. Edit: Also Valve needs to show numbers how many people actually are currently playing the game on the Steam Deck, right on the shop page. Even if game is listed as unsupported or unknown, people can directly see that its actually being played.

They do this on console (expanded and enhanced edition) and sell both games desperately or together as a bundle (more costly than on PC).

Gta 5 and Gta online are not seperate games. Gta 5 multiplayer is a peer to peer connection, it doesn't need multiplayer servers. You wouldn't call minecraft singleplayer LAN a new game just because friends on your network can join your singleplayer world. Additionally there are minecraft clients that allow LAN singleplayer with people who are not on the same network as you to connect to the your singleplayer world, similar to gta online (peer to peer) Sure, gta online has other stuff that the regular game doesn't but that's just an integrated setting or hidden content, whatever word you like best. It's like minecraft singleplayer and when you open a LAN you'll get access to server commands.

Roblox is a single game. I can already hear your counterpoint about unity being a gameengine and every unity game being categorized as a seperate distinct game, but the fact is, it doesn't matter. With your description, you could classify every DLC, every new skin anything really as being a seperate game and only running on the main game engine. Argueing like this is pointless, there is no apparant benefit of argueing like this because anything that is created in a game could than be classified as a new game. Take minecraft as an example, open the game, click on create new world, join the new world, destroy a block, oh, it's a new game since the game didnt create the block you destroyed. Let's take it even further, place a command block, add a few lines of code to it, build a few houses, a few roads, now you have mariokart gamemode in minecraft, is it still minecraft or is it a new game. Your logic and your argument is redundant. In the end, the publisher of the game decides what is part of the game and what isn't, gta online is part of gta5, it's not a seperate game simply because rockstar decided it's part of Gta5.

@@dd-di3mz You are mixing two different things. But besides Roblox, Minecraft or any other game engine, its similar to Warzone and the other Call of Duty games. They might be bundled together, and use the same engine, but the progress, programmed game and everything is separate. You can even buy stuff in one game that does not affect the other. Now when a game or game mode is its own game is not clear. The line is fuzzy. It depends on so many things that we cannot establish exact rules. But we can evaluate each game on its own to see if its separate or not. The point is, it is GTA 5 and GTA Online could be sold as separate games, one single player GTA 5 that does not download GTA Online, and the other way round off course. One game is purchased with fullprice once, and the other is like an MMO paid monthly or with Shark Cards (basically same thing).

I'm a simple man, I see a game that doesn't work on Linux, I move on. They ain't getting a penny from me. There are so many games out there it's kind of silly to worry about a certain a game. Also, I do understand the precedent argument, but hey, rockstar are not the first or last ones to do such thing. Life goes on.

For sure the anti cheat software has a client side (the one it gets installed in your console/PC) and a server side that receives the monitor data from the client (this can scan things from what is connected in your PC to what services are running, heuristic data, game file integrity and so on). Usually supporting multiple versions means having more servers available to distribute the clients in the proper version, so yea ...

Linux is supported by battleye, that happens because battleye doesn't apply it self as intended (as deep)(not kernal level) when facing linux, developers have the ability to give up some security against linux cheater (if they exist) if they want to enable it, which is a no brainer to me at least, since the steam deck isn't a small xommunity by any means and it keeps growing

Regardless I never said to not use anticheat against linux and steam deck, all im saying is to not implement the ban on linux, the anti cheat which exists now will still exist (which is server side), and they can implement a less deep anti cheat.

Not only that, the online game is unplayable right now on PC as people keep getting kicked out of sessions every couple minutes because of “untrustworthy host” -_- Supposedly, the anticheat recognizes someone using mods and kicks everyone out of the session (instead of the person who has mods and cheats), W-T-F?…I’m about to uninstall this mess & move on to games that actually work.

This happens because GTA online works in a peer to peer way, where one player is the host (the server), and all other players are connected to that player. So if the host of the session is detected as cheating and is banned, then there is no choice but to disconnect all the peers that's connected to them and connect them to someone else. It's not possible for the game's current state to disconnect only the cheating player leaving the rest unaffected if the aforementioned cheating player is the host. I do agree it's very stupid though and they should have done like any other multiplayer game and paid for some damn servers, reducing the need for anticheats in the first place...

the way you explained whether or not cheaters should be banned from the game i think is a wrong. if you only *think* of what GTAO cheaters would look like, with them probably blowing up cars, having stuff fall from the sky, and other fun things to make the game chaotic. but in reality its far worse. cheaters in this game can do a lot against you with spawnkilling you, money drops that could possibly get you banned, ruining your progression, and worse of all, *they can sometimes get your ip adress.*

The Linux kernel does not allow for kernel level anti cheats in a technical sense. Rockstar can still use anti-cheat software through proton but not in the same way. This is another reason why Linux is better lol because giving a game kernel level control over a computer is pretty much just insane

So they need to remedy or else it's customer that uses Linux will refund the game however, some of them can't refund it because of Steam may reject it due to 14 days limited for refund chance.

i think some games may have issues where cheaters can make their game look like its running through proton, and then freely cheat, as the proton battleye is a weakened version (not kernel level, etc etc). I do still agree it should be always yes / yes by default. I think that was the main issue here

It uses the wine kernel but not the Linux kernel so it’s technically kernel level and not at the same time. The thing is even a slight tweak of the wine kernel should trigger the anti cheat

Hey there, that’s a bummer but yes, if it is Windows based you should still be able to play that game. The experience will not be great because Windows is a bloated OS so you need something beefy to run it so make sure to check out performance reviews first and preferably some that specifically mention that game

roblox actually works again. there is a native linux port called sober created by the vinegar team. it does not work through wine (studio does though)
