Mr. Scratch oh true, But i was afraid that the movie would pull a lot of punches when I heard it was having reshoots. But I like how the whole film was fighting and a lot of death. The deaths were not censored. So many Rebels, Imperial troops and officers getting blaster and thrown around and killed. It was what I wanted to see.

I think they did well in this movie in that all the way until what happened happened it seemed possible and indeed likely for at least some of these characters to somehow survive and carry on having their own adventures in the 3-4 years between The Battle of Yavin 4 and The Battle of Hoth or even the 4-5 years between Yavin 4 and The Battle of Endor. BUT For once I wasn't upset by the downer ending - It felt right! And I think you should let others have that feeling rather than spoiling it for them so they're expecting it - Yes it's too late in this conversation now but at least elsewhere have a bit of respect for other people's feelings eh. P.S. I deliberately avoid trailers for most movies I want to see these days, I stay well clear of IMDB, KZbin and other videos and critiques of Star Wars Movies until AFTER I've been to see them. Because I know I don't want Spoilers. Unfortunately many people haven't learned yet or they come across a spoiler somewhere they weren't expecting it.

I think people giving the CGI characters crap is unfair. Of COURSE the'r not going to look real. Why would you expect that? It's impossible to perfectly recreate a person's face with computers. I think the fact that they did it as well as they did is amazing. And to be honest, they kinda had to. The characters they CG'd needed to be present in the film. It would have been very awkward were they not there because of how important they are. Even if it wasn't anywhere close to perfect, the fact that we got to see these characters practically (and in some cases literally) brought back to life in such a capacity is just plain incredible.

Tarkin though really bugged me (but then again, my husband didn't even notice he was fake, so it might be because I work in the fx/animation industry that these kind of things irritates me easily!) I understand why they did it and I'm kinda glad they did, but yeah... It's too weird :/

Also just bringing up my own opinion, but with this movie, while I love all the movies, this one made feel like this was more like a real war. Because both the empire and the rebels were kicking each other's asses in very badass ways. I like how [Spoiler Alert] the old empire is actually intimidating now. Saw what you will about the empire but let's face it, in the orginal films, unless darth Vader or emperor was in the scene, they sucked ass (Except on hoth, they did well but only because of the AT-AT's) but what I'm getting at here is that old storm troopers aren't a joke as much as they use to be. They were actually killing so many rebels and while the storm troopers would still get their asses kicked so easily as their original counter parts. One storm trooper got shoot 8 times and was still moving after every shop before it died. Some just shrugged bullets or after they fell down got right back up and started fighting again. One died still holding a grenade in his hand and still used it to kill the berserker guy with LMG blaster and friend of the blind guy. And the Tie fighters are way more accurate and constantly kill rebels easily. With this film I can fully believe that these storm troopers are in charge of keeping the galaxy in fear. (This also proved that most laser fire on storm troopers only knock them out at the very least or wound got a better term.)
@batmanlaughed800
@batmanlaughed800 7 жыл бұрын
I don't get what peoples problem with the orig trig empire is. In Star Wars there were three fighters and the falcon left out of thirty rebel ships. Storm troopers killed all the rebels on the blockade runner in the hallway. And burned Lukes family alive. But sure they suck. And let's see, leia yes shot, atat's shot Luke down, and he got hit in the Death Star battle in Star Wars. 3po got shot, Han got tortured, r2 got shot twice, and how many ships in the rebel fleet got whacked over Endor? Tie pilots were able to keep up with Han through the asteroid field, and more than a few were able to chase the fleet through Death Star 2. You might want to try watching the movies instead of listening to stormtrooper and red shirt jokes. Unless your Han, Lando, Wedge or Chewie the empire did a number on all the main characters. Oh no wait, wedge got hit and had to pull out of the Death Star battle.

Oh and did you miss the fact that stormtroopers on the beach, in full armor, were getting punched out, and knocked out by blows to their helmets with a stick and rile butts? The only one that made sense was the tasering one got from Baz.

Really I thought it was impressive when one stormtropper was held by the blind guy and was shot 7 times in chest and still moving after every shot. Just because they are loosing doesn't mean you don't miss the small details.
@batmanlaughed800
@batmanlaughed800 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was nice to see the armor serve a purpose, and not wonder why a shot to the leg would take one out of the fight. Anyway, improved would mean they got better after the rouge one time frame. But I get what you're saying, I just don't see the stormies as the screw ups everyone jokes about. They are clearly a force to be feared no matter the era.

I liked Vader's treatment as well, except for the choke pun. Dark Force powers shouldn't have puns, lest the start to feel Mr. Freeze-y. Perhaps instead he could have said something akin to "remember this feeling. If you lose focus again it will be the last thing experience." (only, like much better) rather than a rimshot joke.

And just like in Godzilla, everyone entered the cinema expecting to see a lot of the title monster (This time around it was Darth Vader, eeeven if he was never told to be a central piece character, and he got a whole trilogy dedicated to him) and got only a few minutes, but man, what we got was awesome! And Rogue One is a lot better than Godzilla, by the way. I now respect Gareth Edwards a lot more, give this guy a chance to direct all the movies.

I'm pretty sure that it was established already in the new canon comics or something but (SPOILERS) that is Mustafar that Vader is on, confirmed by Lucasfilm. I just need to point out how great of a detail that is. Its the location of Anakin's rebirth as Darth Vader which came at the cost of his greatest failure in which he lost Padme, Obi-Wan, and his child (as far as he knew). Just imagining him spending all his time away from missions in a dark empty tower on that site, stuck in a life-support suit or a medical chamber meditating and ruminating on that; fact angry, resentful, and increasingly numb to the outside world really helps to bridge the gap between the Vader at the end of RotS (NOOOOOOOoooooo) and the Vader we all know and fear.

Carter Stephens I agree, and I think most will. But it's also simply hard to hide a very well done cgi human amongst real human actors. That said, agreeing with James Rolfe (AVGN). Seeing Peter Cushing again, and Tarkin also highlighted the scope and might of the Empire. Non-spoiler but the casual way he makes hugely devastating decisions. The Empire really feels big and with competent and powerful military (imo, the troopers were really good, of course gonna die against the heroes but the finally get red shirts to shoot at). I reallu like this film.

The prequels undid a lot of Vader's intimidation factor, and over time he's become almost antiquated and somewhat overshadowed by other villains. I agree about the first half being entirely useless. Frankly if the ending wasn't so strong more people would be saying it's shit. I don't see how people can possibly say it's the best Star Wars film, even second best. Out of the now 8 films, 4, 5, and even 7 are better films. Rogue One has no strong protagonists, the antagonist is weak (though Darth Vader was never cooler - I wish he was the focal antagonist) and the plot itself is asinine. Outside of "Get the schematics for the Death Star" the shit they pull in the film is just stupid. I love Mads but his character was a bunch of nonsense. Nobody was regulating the kidnapped scientist developing the GIANT planet destroyer? He can just put in a stupid easy flaw to exploit? Regardless, the movie is saved by the ending battle, which was fantastic. Mainly because we didn't have to sit with our worthless protagonists for the bulk of it. The side characters easily steal the show. I'd give it a 7/10. Worth seeing but I can't possibly understand how people need to see it multiple times in theaters.

I've seen "Rogue One: A Star Wars Movie" and it was great spinoff that relates to "A New Hope." I found it more interesting than "Revenge of the Sith" and don't get me wrong, the third prequel film does create a more focus that I want to know what happen and sometimes its a bit too clunky in few parts. However, this one was more focus and that should've been done so good. The whole premise is like group of Rebel spies were planning to sneak into the Empire's hidden location, and they're going to steal Death Star blueprints before it will bring a "New Hope" to destroy it. Easy step for making a good spinoff which I can see it more. The characters were fun, and I'm pretty sure you didn't seem impress Felicity Jones and Diego Luna, but they worked out very well. I guess I found Jyrn Erso is more relatable strong woman than whatever the Star Wars fans didn't like Rey. I think she's very good. Wonderful action scenes and it does bring it back to make more epic like "Episode VII" did, but this groundbreaking war scenes were so cool including the ending was more stronger. All of these scenes that kept too much references, and I'm glad Darth Vader was here in his first spinoff screen time. They probably made Tarkin and Leia into their younger faces which it reminds me like they design to them since "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" or putting real Paul Walker face in "Furious 7." Which can be work sometimes. I'm glad I saw this and it was pretty awesome. Sometimes the middle is a little low, but they're quite fantastic performances that they work out very well, which finally make it so good. Good review bros.

In an attempt to erase all resistance, the Emperor has ordered the construction of a weapon of mass destruction with a power never seen before. Lead scientist Galen Erso was able to flee the construction of this weapon with the help of the rebel Saw Gerrera and is currently in hiding with his family on Lah'mu. This had a more original plot, more original characters (aside from the ones that are from earlier films), a well-built climax, and actual stakes. The Empire was actually INTIMIDATING. The filmmakers were not afraid to take risks. The Force Awakens was ok, but it suffered from a far too frenetic pace and a recycled story. They tried to pack in too much, and I think that the movie really suffered for it. Rogue One is far and away the better movie because rather than rely on coincidence and contrivances, this movie had an actual reason and explanation for every character to be in it. They aren't, for the most part, people who get shot at for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but rather people who chose to join with the Rebel Alliance for real, understandable reasons beyond chance.

I will be honest and say Darth Vader in this movie mirrored how I felt about the mother-fucking T-Rex in Jurassic World. His reveal in this movie gave me chills, but there is something that happens later that very much reminds me of how I felt when the T-Rex fought the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World. It was freaking epic.

The REAL Darth Vader! He's actually... TERRIFYING. And the Empire is actually intimidating and a real threat! THIS is what we wanted from our Star Wars films! I also love the fact that they used a ton of practical effects. The whole thing feels so much more REAL. I don't hate CGI, but I do think it gets over-used to the point of destroying the realism of a scene. A person is talking to a blank green screen, and you can tell they're talking to a blank green screen. Here, though, I realized partway through that the filmmakers had actually built these sets, models, and costumes. Gone was the overly-slick, weightlessness of the CGI sets, models, and creatures. Here they've used CGI to enhance rather than utterly replace practical effects, and it really shows. Towns and cities are messy. Creatures shove people aside with the correct amount of force expected from the action. Actors know exactly what they're looking at because it's actually standing right in front of them!

They should've taken less time with CGI Tarkin and given more to developing Mendelsohn's character. My ranking right now is V > IV > III > VI > R1 > VII > I > II

It's a nice nod to the original trilogy that's all. They should be the same anyway, they come back a few days later to take down the Death Star. Just another bit of fan service that by the average movie goer will be unnoticeable.
