If your watching this video, most likely you have experienced vacuum operated fuel pump issues. For instance, after two weeks of the machines sitting or less in some cases. When you try to start the engine you nearly drain the battery before the engine starts. Bottom line is the small engine impulse / Vacuum fuel pumps have a lot of issues. We have the fix. This proved kit will upgrade your impulse or vacuum fuel pump to our electric fuel pump set up. Without the use of a Honda Ruckus ecu. This is a very needed upgrade for people that have purchased a budget GY6 wiring harness for their Honda Ruckus and isn’t utilizing a electric fuel pump.

With that said, I got a 150 Maddog a week ago, I have major plans...this is way down on the list but i was wondering if you could quickly describe what to do on an AC bike? I'd love a quick tip on how to install this on my maddog and the work around details for AC. Again, thank you for all your hard work, i make videos for living, i direct music videos for Sevendust and metal bands like that so i know the work that is needed for these, you are prolific!!! and aloha from Kauai!! you wouldnt believe the hoops jumped through to get a NEW maddog here, lolol. EDIT: I see you've answered this question below, it pays to read all the comments. The compliments still apply, Imma TRY and figure out what "tapping into the ignition wire" means, how to do it, then do THAT..:) Feel free to make a quick video on that since many of us do have AC to contend with! :)))

Yes these are all great new items I’m all for it! 👍🏼👍🏼 but for the ones who has the Mikuni fuel pump now they can blow on the gas tank to push the gas up to the carb to prime but who would want to keep doing that right so the easiest fix for this is installing a fuel transfer pump/manual pump on the fuel line between the pump and carb. You can buy the smallest one you can find so it’s easy to tuck away. Just another branch that people need to know if we’re about helping the community. More power to you guys Big Mike! 🍻

If your carb bowl is full, then it'll start with no issue. Then the vacuum pump will have plenty of time to catch up. Another issue you're facing is the pump need to be pumping, not pulling. Mount it low, by the tank, and this is again a non issue. Also, try using a battery that isn't half dead.
@RollingWrench
@RollingWrench Жыл бұрын
Ya that will help a tiny bit. Or you can just make out with your gas tank. That will get the gas up to the carb every time like clock work. But it still doesn’t fix the over under fueling issues you get with these super unreliable pumps. At least this has been my experience. I hate them soooo much, I spent hours and hours creating this :-). But each your own. If like the vacuum pump run with it. Jest keep that battery charged up :-)

Why buy that pulsar when you can just wire it to the ignition starter switch , it'll power it only when cranking over the engine and shut it off when you let off the start button , and you can either let the original vacuum pump take over or even better replace the og pump with an electric small constant flow pump and power that one to directly to the ignition switch
@asadabdulqaabir4006
@asadabdulqaabir4006 3 ай бұрын
@@ARVintageCycles Almost exactly my though. There is no sense in having that pump sending gas constantly at the carburetor while the key switch is on, carburetor eventually will overflow. That's why those pumps are commanded by the ECU, in order to activate or deactivate it when needed. Maybe if the pump controller is triggered by the spark signal... but flow-rate must be precisely adjusted. Or maybe if you add a second layer of control in order to deactivate the pump when the float valve closes. Dunno, this solution needs a little more thinking.

Those (vacuum) pulse fuel pumps are generally ran to the *crankcase* on riding mowers, not the intake. Constant vacuum does not power them. It needs to be cycled from pressure to vacuum to pressure to vacuum. Vacuum pulls fuel into the pump, pressure pushes it to the carburetor, and the cycle continues.
@RollingWrench
@RollingWrench 11 ай бұрын
Yes that is true on a tractor. Unfortunately not on a scooter. However the intake pulses as well. In case you didn’t know.
@Texassince1836
@Texassince1836 11 ай бұрын
@@RollingWrench The crankcase pulses from vacuum to pressure, the intake at low load pulses from strong vacuum to weak vacuum, and under heavy load the intake pulses from low vacuum to low pressure. The crankcase is a more consistent source of power for a pulse fuel pump, which would explain why scooters have such a problem with them while millions of tractors run just fine with pulse pumps

@@Texassince1836 what I’m trying to say is the scooters don’t have that option. The only breather hose is on the head. It can’t be restricted.

Hey just wondering about the performance and whether this would work as a fuel 💉 pulse for a with a throttle less design if you incorporated a drive by wire ...sort of setup instead of your potentiometer the 3 wires from the electric throttle on an electric scooter .... controlled the pulse as you wrap the throttle ....to achieve this you would also have to use a stepper motor to actuate the throttle blade to matching the input of the pulse of the injector ... Drove by wire for a clean 👌cable free install ....
@tommybays7628
@tommybays7628 Жыл бұрын
Also a potential draw back of your product ....key left on the fuel line blows off onto a hot 🔥manifold .....possibly catastrophe .... A way of detecting intake vacuum as in your demonstration you simply plug it off ....how about you incorporate an led inside your potted box an it indicates power and a safety if there is no vacuum from the intake system once the engine is running and vacuum is achieved 👌the led illuminates as indication of the operation using this as a method simply use a magnetic Reed switch very small and a neodymium magnet in its proximity or as it is removed from it enclosed inside a short piece of aluminum tubing and the switch turns on the module when the vacuum subsides the magnet relocks the normally open circut. Closing the fuel flow and when the vacuum is restored the led lights and the pump begins pumping again ....just a thought .... may save some lawsuits 👍👌

The petcock on the taotao is gravity fed. The tank is placed higher which forces the fuel to go down. The vacuum attachment only opens and closes the petcock-that’s all it does. If it actually acted as a pump, fuel would be sucked into the vacuum hose. I have 2 of the same bikes (taotao pony 50s). I also did the 80cc upgrade-huge difference! Question-are your valves chatty with the 80? I adjusted my valves several times and still. I know it’s the valves because I did a test-I adjusted the valves to zero (tappet touching the valve head) and the sound went away. Anyway, the petcock on mine was stuck open (better than stuck closed I guess). I changed it to a manual petcock. Works just fine.

Whilst I think this is great upgrade it should be noted most of the problems associated with el cheapo vacuum pumps are because of the use of ethanol fuel. Whilst most, not all, GY6 style engines can tolerate E10 fuel it turns the diaphragm in the fuel pump into a wibbly wobbly jelly like curtain instead of a semi rigid membrane that can 'pop' back and forth and so pump properly. Mikuni and Keihin vacuum fuel pumps currently made in Japan have ethanol tolerant diaphragms however, because ethanol also jellifies the non-metallic components of the typical CV carburetor (float needle tip, main diaphragm, air cut valve diaphragm, bi-starter seat) they don't work properly either. I use E10 with no problems in my cars and my motorcycles which are fuel injected but not in my scooters.

The pressure from the pump fills up the float bowl. Once full, the flow is stopped inside the carburetor by the needle and seat. If it needs more, there is more on tap with the pressure behind it. We have done a ton of testing. All good, nothing to worry about on your end.

@MrHanowski

These pulse pumps are actually very reliable and are widely used by experimental aircraft. It's not the pumps' fault that the fuel is low and needs to be pumped up to the carb. It's the pumps' job to keep the fuel flowing to the carb AFTER the engine starts, not get the fuel there to start with. To do that, use a primer bulb like outboard motors use. Also, the vacuum line should be as short as possible and made from stiff rubber hose, not long soft fuel line. If you use an electric pump, you must insure that the pump pressure doesn't exceed the rated pressure of the carburetor. Otherwise the pump will overdrive the carb float valve.

How much pressure does it put out? Could you put on a the regular electric fuel pump that's for an automobile but with low pressure?

How about running a high-flow fuel pump directly into the carb with a low pressure (1-2 psi) check valve in reverse acting as a relief valve dumping back to tank and just let her pump to it´s hearts content.

Sorry for the long post in advance: I have an oddball 49cc scooter (2012 Yiben MD50QT, currently saving for a Navi) I've been having a lovely time dealing with the same issues in the video, running clear lines you can literally watch the gas mysteriously vanish below the line to the pump over time. Replaced starter, spark plug, carb, checked vac seal and lines, and have gone through 4 pumps driving myself insane. Once I get it cranked, it takes a few minutes then everything is peachy. Unfortunately, the entire scooter except the fuel gauge is AC. I have 2 questions, first, would it be possible to split the fuel line from the tank to this pump/unit and splice in another directly to the carb, splice in a 12v AC to DC converter with a switch off of the brake light, so the pump activates with brake is applied to basically prime the system before starting? Or would this just not be worth the time experimenting and just plug the tank directly into the carb with an on/off valve, maybe a 1 way valve connected so it doesn't leak?

First of all, the petcock is not a pump. It’s just an on/off vacuum controlled. When you start the bike, the engine starts a vacuum which pulls the valve open and fuel starts flowing. If the vacuum was an actual pump, fuel would be sucked through the vacuum hose. I proved this theory because on mine, the petcock was stuck open. I put a manual petcock on and it works just fine. I’m not 100% familiar with your bike, but most of the cheaper mopeds are all manual and basic operating systems (air/fuel/spark). The more expensive bikes give you computer control, fuel injection, etc so the computer makes adjustments as needed to keep the bike running smooth. In my situation, the bike is all basic. I did learn a good trick to keep it running smooth. I put a CAPFUL of seafoam with every fuel refill to keep the carburetor clean. The idle jet clogs on a regular basis. The idle jet has holes the size of a human hair and easy to clog. That means damn near impossible cold starts, stalling, horrible idling.

When the carb bowl is full how does it know to stop pumping and pump again?ecu? interested in this but I need it to be reliable if I’m full hold sesh for a long run. Need one for my stroker dio my mikuni pumps been good on my other strokers but this new build won’t pull fuel thru the crankcase port only on my intake port but I don’t feel like that’s reliable..This might be my solution

When the pump is not activated, does it block the flow of fuel? What I’m wondering is if I can use this on a gravity, fed fuel tank. Those vacuum operated pet cocks have always been very unreliable for me. I would love to just put a manual petcock on, and then essentially use this pump to stop the flow. If you open the bike is off, and then let it flow when the bike is on.
@RollingWrench

What up brother! How you been? You still rockin that Perrywinkle ruckus? 👌such a dope bike! To answer your question, unfortunately no. Fuel will still gravity flow with the pump off. I know what you mean, the diaphragm in those vacuum fuel valves are not very reliable. I think it is best just to install a free flowing fitting onto the gas tank and inline, install a 3/16 manual shut off fuel valve.

I put a manual petcock on mine. The switch on the petcock stops the fuel flow. My vacuum petcock was stuck open (better than stuck closed I guess). The manual petcock works just fine.

The proof is in the customers problem. Once you start having problems and then install another vacuum pump and have the same problem again you will get it.
