( www.EverymanTri.com ) Most people know how to run. But do most people know how to run like an Olympian? In this fun and informative video former Olympian Joanna Zeiger and her training partner Brandon ambush runners in a park in Boulder Colorado for an extreme run makeover. You've probably heard of fashion and home makeovers but perhaps not run makeovers. Joanna and Brandon pick random runners at a Boulder, Colorado neighborhood park and show them how to run like an Olympian. Check out his how to video if you are looking to take your training and running to the next level.
You can also check out (racereadycoaching.com) for more useful running tips and drills.

Best original running content I've seen in months. Love the makeover, it really helps the viewers see what you are talking about. Too many people tell us how to improve form with words only, no demonstrations. Great job

In all my years of running I've never tried counting my cadence. I did yesterday and managed to run much faster and with less effort, and with less pain than I have previously. Thanks so much for making this video!

I love the idea, and it's very helpful to see you guys giving these instructions to a random "man in the street". But tbh I don't know if I would cooperate... I just hate being forced out of my flow when I'm running ;-) I must say, you found yourselves a good student. He listened very carefully and really put a lot of effort into following your instructions as much as possible. Apart from that, it's kind of a relief to see a normal - ie not completely ripped, yet fit - person in a sports video :-)

Good to have found a guy who was so receptive to new ideas even after 30 years of running. Most striking aspect to his form is that his arms are really floppy, and don't really propel him going forward.

Hi Simba-Good question. At first, your heart rate will probably jump a little higher than normal for a given pace. Over time though, you will adapt and your heart rate will drop back to normal. You many even find that you can run faster at your previous heart rate zones. -JZ

idea - next time shoot the whole thing from a bicycle or golf cart while the people are at a slow jog. plan the shoot so it faces into the sun. that way the camera doesn't have to keep walking around the subjects. Also, the coaching can be "live" while in motion. just keep the action rolling while in a slow jog. Imagine demonstrating the difference in cadence would be easier with side by side with the "volunteer" in the middle. Just an idea.

My dad ran in the Army in the 50's and he was told the same thing back then, long stride. He would practice taking as long a stride as possible.

love the title, energy and information of this video. I'm going to implement the exercises immediately and count my cadence next time I run. My one question is I'm currently training using my heart rate, how can you implement high cadence with keeping you HR goals in line?

Thanks for the vids. Brandon, how did you lose 22 pounds? You didn't look fat in your "before" videos. What is the impact of extra pounds to running time? I did see an interview with a professional bike racer who said that 1lb equals 1 extra minute in a 10k climb. Is there a similar statistic for running? Thanks again.

Hi, I am 41, i gave up cycling to take up running. I used to be good at running in school, but havent done it for years. I have done a few 10k and 5k runs, and my times are creeping down.I have quite a large stride which i always thought was a major advantage for me. But watching your videos, are you saying that i should switch to the higher cadence shorter step that Joanna is doing? Will this work for me? Thanks

Anyone give me some real solid advise about running. Please read all my details very carefully. tips on how best to run on treadmill. I just wanna keep safe. I'm running at 42 years of age . 220 lbs . finishing 5k runs in 28:20 and Ive not run in over 30 years I was a wee boy when I last run at anything when I was around 7 years old.. I am loving the darn thing and feeling great but need to take care of my legs. my pace is 6.4 klms an hour average. My dream is to get below 25 minutes , Oh and Ive only ran 5 times. I am aware of what some people do 5k in but trust me Im impressed with my personal times. I have huge pains in feet and legs and thats after investing in real nice Under Armor micro / white mens running shoes. What the heck am I doing wrong. Please also Is keeping my head and chest totally stright up looking forward stupid or should I be in slight tilt forward for that center of mass issue. Its one or the other it cant be both. Please advise carefully and thanks to anyone in advance for your time. Honest thanks. Jim

+James Wade I've recently really improved my running (dropping from average 25.00 per 5k to a PB of 22 minutes -and I could have gone faster). When I run I do 100 left-foot falls heel first, then 100 on the balls of my feet - the speed difference is significant - and 50 high knee foot falls. However, yes, go get some good trainers, but putting in the miles will be your best bet to improve.

James Wade Also, when you swing your arms, have them at a relaxed 90 degree angle and move from pocket to ear as you run, to avoid lateral swinging.

Sweet yes , I have focused on this. Called running like a T-REX or having Crocodile Arms. I have stopped running for 2 reasons. Have a huge house in construction that in 12 days I'll have lost weight on , My job is very physical and 2 My shoes I bought are junk. I spent $109.00 on Under Armor Micro Shoes I think their 1/2 running 1/2 training. Any real positive feedback on any top class running shoes ?
