This is a super cool experiment, and made me think really hard about perspective. The rotation remains the same based on which side of the electromagnetic field you are looking at, assuming the flux lines follow a spherical / torus shape. One side of the field always rotates clockwise, even when it's facing away from you. Neat stuff :b

Infrasound Range (Below 20 Hz): For controlling and stabilizing the vortex rotation. Lower Audible Range (30-50 Hz): To synchronize with the vortex speed and enhance the lift effect. You could tun the frequency precisely based on vortex speed and chamber size. Combining infrasound for stability and ultrasonic resonance to amplify lift would make the "engine" theoretically more efficient. ... I was thinking about using mercury this way for a while now as its liquid and conductive. I was thinking in achieving very high speeds in order to lift the remaining weight as well.. My guess is that you would need to make several different chambers and you will need to control the magnetic pulses very fast. Im also guessing that you need to work with 3 magnetic field slots in order to keep the element in place (by element i mean the mercury). The timings must be perfect. A negative state before the element, a quick positive before the element that is being pushed forward and negative in front of it. Im just quick guessing because this is not going to work like this you need to be able to move the mercury like it was solid material so thats why you need to contain it between 2 so called slots (magnetic states). Thats why you need many different coils along the sphere. And you must use 2 elements to keep it balanced. By playing with the timing of the pulses , one element will make it go off balance and will make the housing lean or slingshot it into a particular direction... I always wanted to test this but never had the chance

First thing, never use aluminium as an electrode touching mercury. Mercury disrupts the aluminium oxide layer and allows this extremely reactive metal to react with oxygen in air. It also releases lots of heat which contributes to that smoking at 02:28. Also, instead of contaminating mercury with talcum, use small pieces of paper. It's much easier to remove them and you minimize hazardous waste.

nothing. simply nothing. This is just a motor with an a bit different topology (single-winding liquid coil). if you have a motor like this an apply an AC Signal to it it will not move as the mass is too great in comparison to the forces applied. Well, unless your AC-signal is like only 5 Hz, then you would see some movement.
@caminoprojectUS7 жыл бұрын
ABaumstumpf technically it's a circular magneto hydrodynamic drive. it would be interesting to see how much more speed could be achieved with the addition of an outer ring magnet. theoretically you could generate power by either moving the Mercury or rotating the field magnets.

To make a DC motor running which uses only the Lorentz force, you need a special device such as a commutator, which changes the direction of the current through the coils at the right time. Without a commutator, the rotor will rotate only a small portion, and then left standing. The same thing happens if you connect a coil from a stepmotor to a DC supply. You can see in the above test that there is no need for a special device such as a commutator to make the mercury spin, therefore there is another force in the game which makes the mercury rotate. Later on I'll explain what this is.

I have an idea for a lifting force machine. Step 1: Get hollowed out cube. Step 2: Securely attach magnet to inner bottom of hollowed out cube. Step 3: Place a lever on inside bottom of cube behind the magnet that's securely attached to inside bottom of cube so that one side of the lever is pointing towards you and hanging over the magnet. Step 4: Attach a vertical bar to the top side of the part of the lever that is not hanging over magnet witch is securely attached to inner bottom of cube. Make sure the bar goes all the way up to the inner top of the cube barley touching it. Step 5: Securely attach a magnet to the side of the lever that is hanging over the magnet that is attached to the inner bottom of cube. Note: Magnets need to be facing each other with attracting poles N,S or S,N Note: The lever is going to have to be really close to the magnet on inner bottom of cube because of how close those magnetic fields need to be to interact. But not so close that magnets can touch. The magnet on top connected to lever is pulling the magnet on inner bottom of cube towards it and since the magnet on inner bottom of cube is connected to cube, this pulling force acts as a lifting force. Now at the same time the magnet on inner bottom of cube is pulling the magnet on top downwards BUT the magnet on top is connected to the lever so any downwards pulling force is being converted mechanically by the lever into upwards lifting force. Now if you know anything about magnets you now that there are magnets powerfull enough to lift far more weight then just there own. So essentialy this divice is exploiting the powerfull pulling force of magnets by mechanicaly transforming its magnetic pulling force into mechanical lifting force through the clever utilization of a lever, and walla stuff can be made to fly. Imagine if the magnets in this experiment where electro magnets so the ammount of electrical current going into them determined the ammount of lifting force that it would have. Now imagine this system being used as an attachment that could be placed under or ontop of vehicles to counter the weight of the vehicle and any cargo its carying. Now imagine if this was done with powerfull permanent magnets and turned sideways and placed in an electric generator and had enough strength to pass through the magnetic fields as it propelled itself forwards with its own magnetic pulling force. Interesting video. I would assume the 2 volts D.C. is with a current regulated source since the mercury should appear as a short between the inner and outer collar. It would be interesting to put a wound coil insulated from and around the outer collar and then switch to an A.C. Voltage and or use transistors to create a simulated A.C. If you could create a second track for a second isolated mercury container and see if you can transmit current and voltage to the second track of mercury with millimeters of isolation, you might have found a replacement for transformer's which are notorious for losing 70% of the input power between primary and the secondary of the transformer. I hope you continue experimenting. By the way, check out the designer of the "Blackfly Drone" he patented a new d.c...motor which reduces microtransient current paths in an electric motor. He also designed the blackfly and its engines.

Question: Current easily flows through mercury, and the lines of force produced by the magnets rotates the mercury. Can mercury be magnetized?
@BengtRosini135 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I wouldn't think so on a permanent basis, but possibly similar to an electromagnet. But without the separation of windings, like in a coil, it may be much weaker. This is just an educated guess mind you. Just based on the work I've done with coiled up electromagnets and the occasional mercury switch I've come across.
@timothykearns22325 жыл бұрын
@@BengtRosini13 Thank you for your comments........I know that a nail retains a small residual amount of magnetism after being magnetized, but that magnetism is short-lived. As you've mentioned, a separation of winding's is impractical when dealing with a liquid (obviously). I agree that mercury can become magnetic, as a nail can, when electrical current is applied. The residual magnetism in the nail is due to its ferrous properties, which mercury does not contain. This, of course, is my "educated guess". Comments, anyone?
@writerNB4 жыл бұрын
@@timothykearns2232 It *is* a good question. I suspect mercury has unique electrical properties when currents are passed through it. Magnetism (itself) is a flux of particles traveling within metals (that can become magnets). So, logically, when current is conducted through mercury, "something else" is happening, that cannot be defined as "typical magnetism". A few very clever electrical engineers like Dollard, Tesla or Hutchinson may have figured this out.. But I doubt any of us could find it explained in textbooks. Peace. Thanks for reading.

@@writerNB Thanks......I appreciate your response. I suppose "lines of force" occur when AC or DC is applied to any metal (remember the magnets we made with wire, a nail and a dry cell?). anybody recalled the movement of earth's magma while watching this? In addition, when the magnet polarity was changed, the flow also looked similar to weather forecast of wind and clouds... turbulent movement. May be the movement of magma and fluids inside of the earth is the reason behind Earth's magnetism (opposite of what is happening in this video). The magma's movement in turn is due to earth's rotation which in turn is due to inter-planetary/ heavenly bodies forces? However, of this is true then we should also be getting electrical energy from the magma's movement then!?? Just sharing what I was thinking, must be pretty basic for most of you here...
@Anthonypython7 жыл бұрын
we do to a certain extent but it is more with the ion's in our atmosphere than directly with the magma, but it requires quite high in the air in order to retrieve it, the higher it is, the more power we can collect, so 50ft-100ft or higher is quite a bit of power. If we went to the magma heat source close, we could have a large steam boiler, and run a turbine to power many, many cities, as it would be 70%-80% efficient, and we can recollect the steam back into water to recycle it. though digging that deep would be expensive. using uranium isn't cheap either in large quantities. though Distilled water is much cheaper and way less toxic than uranium, and its byproducts. I think I'll take geothermal, or ion collecting, both a little pricey, but they both would pay off. what do you think?

It's one of them magneto-hydrodynamic motors they invented for liquid metal fast breeder reactors. You see they needed liquid metal to cool them sorts of reactors due to them no needing moderation so they could breed uranium strait into plutonium to burn as fuel. Water cooling would absorb too many neutrons and slow them down. So they opted for using of all things liquid sodium. Welp, they needed as few moving parts as possible so they built pumps based on the principals this video shows. By running and electric current and magnetic field perpendicular to one another and having that surround a non magnetic/conducting pipe they were able to use high amp flow through the liquid to move the liquid metal.

The mercury has to be magnatized, the movement of the fluid is to create the magnetic field, by placing bands of reverse polarity at different stages through the fluid you create a magnetic generator without moving parts, which in turn creates functional gravity. You then copy the magnetic signature of specific gravity to the gravity of a nearby object say like putting a 10,000 gauss magnet 10 feet away and changing the frequency of the electrical rings to create a mimic 10,000 gauss and the object will go to the magnet. The by product of magnetic generation is gravity and electric current so it creates more electricity than is put into the system like a magneto. There has also been experiments with titanium foil used as a supercharged levetation media combining the two you might have a new vehicle. Also there has been tests of plasma shielding because certain plasmas will float on matter hence matter won't pass through them. It's amazing that most people look at this stuff for space travel when if we actually used it for ground travel we could travel astronomical distances extremely quickly and not have accidents. All the new technology coming out is truly amazing and there really needs to be a lot of R and D done with it glad to see a video like this thanks.
