I've doubled down on the wilderness dream. I need an income to get by, so I've decided to bank on making KZbin videos that show my journey and hope they pay off. Otherwise it's back to the grind away from my very remote property when the money runs out.
Once some of the upfront costs are covered, I just may be able to keep the spending to a minimum. I will do my best and keep the dream alive as long as possible.
It's worth a shot.
Godspeed everyone.

The sawdust can be used in your outhouse to kill the smell. I’m enjoying your channel. You might consider getting a PO Box, so that us old, retired folks can send you stuff or create an Amazon wish list. I like helping out those who are working toward their dreams.

I think that's a great and fair idea. Don't over commercialize because then an audience will feel exploited, HOWEVER, often your subscribers want to feel part of a project with things such as; * post office box number for gifts * But me a coffee (or in the case help with groceries) and, * An Amazon wish list Are entirely reasonable! Only thing I would recommend is not to accumulate stuff you can't properly care for now as you may have a bear nursery checking out your latest toys! What comes around goes around, as we help others they help us.

There is no nice way to say this, but you need a dog. Remember to do the firewood for the winter, it takes time to dry so find deadwood until you got a 3 year drying cycle going. Get some gillnets, trotlines and fish traps going, build a fishsmoker and a drying cage away from camp.

Hi my friend, great to ‘be’ back on that beautiful land with you. You are a man who doesn’t give up. I enjoy your ‘company’, now every Thursday. I really could have coped well, living in the wilderness, but that’s not how my life went. I’m a 71 year old grandma, & an Aussie to boot. I’ve been in a wilderness of my own, but that’s another story 😊. I love to see your sheer determination over any task put before you. Even your bravery, to open your door, to what may have been a bear, or two! I’m amazed. Your snippets of humour, somewhat dry, my favourite, is very uplifting. I pray good things for you as you fulfill your dreams. Keep God close to you, & He will be your best friend. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for His presence & love. Your new boat is ideal, & the extra length carries your lumber easily. So good to see you so settled into your new property. Your first episode, showed the thickness of the, well, forest comes to mind, lol. Now it’s a beautiful scene. God bless.

Just have a few suggestions, get 2 or 3 filters for the generator , extra oil , and a couple of spark plugs . I know everything is expensive now, but I'd say doing what you're doing and have to do is more important than the money! In fact these things could save you money and time !! As for the bear , if it was me I'd make sure to be there when he is , and either dispatch him or make enough noise or whatever that he don't want to come back ! My personal choice is option 1 , they are good to eat . Old plywood with nails driven through is an old tried and true deturant on a porch ! 😊

Gidday Shawn , Mate probably your best video yet , your getting so much done , but I think more importantly you've seemed to grasp the steps it's going to take to achieve this monumental feat . Your mental attitude seems to have adjusted and you seemed to be much more positive. Great to see . Time to light 2 smudge fires a day on the stumps of tree's you cut , gets rid of bug n stump . I have seem a few comments of people like myself that would like to donate, you are clearly the real deal in a world of fake KZbinrs . So if you could set up a patrion or P/O box , we can get this train moving . Cheers mate , warmest regards from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 👍. P.s. if you've rounded a screw off , a piece of rubber (thin) between screw and drill will get it out , simple trick 😉

Channel your 'inner brat' Shawn. Get organized so you're not flying all over the place. Have a Phase 1,2 and 3 list. Phase 3 should list the bare minimum, top things that absolutely have to be done for winter. Phase 1 and 2 containing the top absolutes for getting to Phase 3. Just have carry forward list to write down things for after this initial Phase 1,2,3 so you know you'll get to them in the next stage. I have done this time and time again, perhaps this or a variation of this will work for you. (Used to work in Admin so have carried this on to personal projects as well. Writing things down also helps to clarify/focus and marks your progress to you feel encouraged). You are right in that, the greatest push of a project uis required in the beginning, it takes a mighty heave hoo to get that momentum going But yeah, many here will help you, I can see that already. Sounds nice. 40 yrs ago I built my vertical log cabin on my homestead in the woods, using trees from clearing the homestead area. Some people call it the stockade style or Hudson Bay style. A lot easier to handle logs for one person (8ft logs), faster to build and less trouble with shrinking. I built it into a bank/slope with a full length covered porch over looking my creek and garden, I call it my green TV. I have a half full basement and half crawlspace for a cellar. I used river rock for the bottom half. It was a lot of work and lots of trial and error but sure is satisfying

Some creature comforts that you might want to think about. A stool for your work/dinner table on the porch a decent camp folding chair and a platform to sleep on in the cabin or a sleeping loft if there is room. You wouldn’t have to roll up your bed just to move around and you would be warmer up higher. Also in hindsight I bet you wished you put your quick and dirty lean to a bit further forward so you could also step off the front porch right underneath.

Be careful with coals in a pan like that. There is a risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. In the UK a few years back, an entire family died of CO poisoning because they left a smoldering disposable barbecue in their tent awning overnight. Hopefully you have a CO alarm in the cabin (good idea in any case with the wood burner).

I'm not sure where your off-grid site is. I was up by Dawson Creek and noticed Fuel was 161.9 yet down in Abbotsford at 187.9 and higher in New Westminster. Hope your plan goes well.

Keep up the videos. Love what you're doing. Just a little bit of advice. I know you said you're not a mechanic. That's ok. But I am. Keep your impact away from the saw. Do everything by hand. Most of those bolt threads are aluminum with a steel bolt. Very easy to strip with an impact. Keep up the great work. And be safe.

I will watch all your vids to help out. I think you are game with bears, my advice if you have not already, get a 12g. Another trick to keep large critters away is to set trip wires with 12g primers, I have used them here in Aussieland, koala bears are no problem here LOL, but kangaroos, 3rd larges deer in the world, wild dogs and serial killers can be a problem. Does not work on snakes, and we have the worst kind here. To safe on fuel, get a few solar panels, I built a trailer a decade ago with 460w of solar on it, lithium batteries, and I charge my Ryobi tools that way, including a chain saw, LED lights, I can even cook with mains power via an inverter, tried 12v cooking but 240v via an inverter works well. You can run just about everything of a good solar setup. I was very close to becoming homeless due to the GFC of 08/09, and was going to go bush for good, but family saved me, but I did leave the concrete jungle for the country 10 years ago and reside in a small country town now, and use my trailer and gear when I go bush, and if they flick the switch to the world I will go bush for good.
