Late winter camping in British Columbia's west coast. I go to a secret lake that few people seem to ever make it to. Lila the dog joins me for this mini adventure. We do all kinds of campfire cooking and cook up a feast. We also explore some ancient old growth forest and do some off-roading as well.
* For the privacy of the lake featured in this video, comments will be turned off for this Episode #10

This is just the peace before the storm... As a spring-chicken, I "biked up" with all my goods and shackles, to Blue Earth Lake from Spences Bridge, on the South Thompson). "Biked up" is a little under-played-in fact, I pushed most of the way (in the late '70s). There used to be a 100-year-old cattleman's log cabin there, where I spent 5 days, late fall. The first night, I cast out the last grasshopper of the year, just for the halibut... to be woken by my reel screaming before light. Figured a bear, or deer or some other beastie had got tangled, and I didn't have the courage to check until it was well-lit. The lake was like a millpond, rod exactly as I'd left it... (had I dreamt it?), On lifting the rod, barely on my peripheral range, an over-sized trout broke the surface, way down the lake... it took me five days to eat (3.5 kg+)... On the way back, barely a half km out of camp, coming around a corner, a healthy cougar was loping along the road away from me... fortunately, it didn't seem to notice (the bike was quiet, and they were more used to 4x4's and trikes, perhaps). I often wonder if it'd watched me the previous 5 days... it wasn't a peaceful trip back (22 km)... hit a rock and got a flat tyre, walked back in the dark, arrived at the Trans Canada at 2 am, humbled.

Beautiful camping, except for the way people trashed up the first place, but the old growth forest was astonishing, and the lakes were such beautiful colors. Canada is so beautiful. Lila is a darling!!!

I have a 170 lb Newfoundland male. When I play Coyotes and Wolves howling on my phone, his reaction is to run to me and stand with his tail curled and is in a defensive posture. He soon starts howling and barking and growling. This defensive trait is bread into the Newfoundland breed. It is truly the call of the wild when dogs howl! BC is a very beautiful place. Its shameful that there are people who leave garbage and do damage to those old majestic trees! Looking forward to you returning to your cabin build!

I just found your channel yesterday and today have binged watched most of your videos because the doctor wants me to stay off my foot while it heals. I’m enjoying your videos so much because frankly even though I like other channels, your channel seems more real than a lot of them do. You are doing what I have dreamed about and won’t be able to do at this age, so stick with it and don’t give up or quit posting videos and I promise to help you cut lumber and pound nails from my recliner! Best wishes.

Great food for camping, it's very much the type that's popular here in South Africa to cook over the fire. The potatoes normally get butter and garlic, wrapped in foil and straight in the coals. The brussel sprouts are one thing I'm normally eating alone, don't know many people who like them as much as I do.👍

Good change of paste. Your cabin build videos are great to watch. I can't wait to see it when it is done. Also, just a quick tip when you chop wood, please use a piece of wood to hold down the pieces you are chopping. I have seen people cut themselves on accident. Plus, I'd hate to see you get injured. Thanks for the upload.

I enjoy your cabin building series. I was touched when, on the previous video, you said how you missed Lila. Btw, that was a brutal get to the cabin, then get back to the vehicle with all that snow. You have to do some serious thinking on how you will be able to get to the road and to your cabin in the winter or do you plan on not being there during winter time?
