I was on vacation in apple valley, and stopped at the Roy Roger's museum. And was there all day. A lady came over and said " you have been here a long time" I said that i always thought of Roy as my dad and that i loved him. She left and a few minutes later i hear a man say " i understand you wanted to see me. I turned around and there was Roy Roger's. I hugged the stuffing out of him. I told him, that he helped me grow up. We had a long talk

My heroes have always been cowboys. I am 69 years old, raised in Texas and grew up with Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Hoppalong Cassidy, The Lone Ranger & Tonto, Rocky Lane, Red Ryder and Little Beaver (Robert Blake played Little Beaver), Lash LaRoo, Gene Autry, Smiley Burnet, Gabby Hayes, Burl Ives, Frog Millhouse, The Sons of the Pioneers, of course Trigger, Bullet, Buttermilk, Papoos (anyone know whose horse that was?), Silver, and all of the ones I can't remember. The good guys always won and the bad guys were always taught a life lesson. It was amazing how none of the good guys were every killed, maybe just roughed up a bit. Good ALWAYS won out over evil. The girls and boys never kissed, and you never heard a curse word. We would play cowboys and Indians as well as chasing the bad guys to bring them to justice. We used cap pistols and rifles. All of us had real firearms in the house because our fathers were hunters; every kid I knew had easy access to guns but we never touched them because we were taught from the time we could crawl to respect them and that they were NOT toys. You never heard of anyone going out and shooting up a school or snipers shooting at cars on the road. It just didn't happen. We were exposed to the "real thing" when it came to guns because we went out with our fathers hunting, so exposure doesn't breed killers. Westerns with shootouts don't breed them, either. It is violent video games, egregious violence in movies and the line between right and wrong being blurred by political correctness. The lack of discipline in the hope hasn't helped the situation, either. Life in the United States has deteriorated tremendously since we watched Roy Rogers and Dale Evans on the big screen. If only we could bring back the innocence of that time, wouldn't it be wonderful?

Many of you also remember not only the wonderful and encouraging message of this song, but the wonderful role models and life-giving, powerful and just plain love of good and one's neighbor Roy and Dale at modelled in their movies and TV series. And the more America has sunk from the wonderful and life-giving substance that made us great, the more such role models and messages as Roy and Dale's and other such cowboy heroes portrayed looks mighty good to the sousl hungry for such life. I know some folks have gotten bitter and cynical about such things due to the gutter-life our nation has sunk into and the wreckage of pain and brokenness that has followed since we lost our way as a nation. But I also know that Roy and Dale were followers of Jesus and found hope and strength in him in the real life tragedies they endured. And the very values of faith, hope and love they lived by and also formed the life and values they modelled off-screen and on-screen.-- the same beliefs and life our Founding Fathers made clear were the founation of our nation and freedoms for all. And I am confident that although heroes like Roy and Dale have passed on, the same Father God and Jesus who guided and empowered them, still lives and is ready and eager in His love, truth and power to restore and heal each of us individually and as a nation. And that sure and confident hope has begun to spark and ignite in places around our nation and world-- and will continue to grow and kindle across our nation and world into the true love of God, neighbor and good Roy and Dale lived by.Happy Trails, folks!

This is the theme song to the day camp that I used to be a camper at (and worked at for a few years). Every day when I left, this song just kept me upbeat for the rest of the day. On the last day they would gather the whole camp on the field right smack in the middle of the camp, and the supervisor of the camp and his direct family would bring towels wrapped around metal bars that were shaped into what year it was. They would have an end-of-camp ceremony that lasted for two hours and then take out the towels and burn them. As soon as the towels started burning this song would play in the background, and everyone would start crying tears of joy. I would go around hugging everyone to say not goodbye, but "happy trails" - and by the time that I'm on the bus watching the camp become farther and farther away from me I'm crying tears of joy because of this song ringing through my ears. It brings back such good memories, and it makes me want to go back there again :)

It still sounds great and reminded me of how I wanted to be a cowgirl whenever I saw Roy and Dale having there marvelous adventures with Trigger and Buttermilk. Thank you for sharing it with us, Happy Trails to you, L

i'm a huge radio geek, and sometimes heard this song as a close to a format. sort of a "goodbye for now, if we ever do come back, be looking out for us!" thing. most recently hearing this on Classic country WIRL 1290 in Peoria, IL as the last song played before making the shift to oldies.

Happy trails to you, Until we meet again. Happy trails to you, Keep smiling until then. Who cares about the clouds when we're together? Just sing a song, and bring the sunny weather. Happy trails to you, Until we meet again. Some trails are happy ones, Others are blue. It's the way you ride the trail that counts, Here's a happy one for you. Happy trails to you, Until we meet again. Happy trails to you, Keep smiling until then. Who cares about the clouds when we're together? Just sing a song, and bring the sunny weather. Happy trails to you, Until we meet again. Happy trails to you, Until we meet again. Happy trails to you, Keep smiling until then. Who cares about the clouds when we're together? This was my favorite show growing up. They were my "heros" Then followed their Christian walk. My dream was to meet them both. When Roy died I knew that dream would not happen in this lifetime. But I did get to see Dale and got to shake her hand. She was just down to earth. But love this soung.

Good people. And very, very talented. I had forgotten how talented. Recently watched a clip where Roy rode Trigger into a live set, did horse tricks, and sang perfectly, on pitch and without missing a beat, then rode off the set, all in one take. He made it look easy and that is not easy. He was an inspiration to millions and the kind of class act we need today. Miss them both greatly.

I remember Rogers came to our town. The night he was here, my dad came home early from work, we had dinner early, and we all moved the load of sand and gravel from our driveway to the backyard. After that, we watched TV, after I did my homework. The end.

I used to go to the movies to see Roy Rogers' films, and enjoyed them as a kid and a teenager. And he was not only able to ride and do what cowboys do, but he could also sing well, and significant songs, like this one which is great to listen to and enjoy.

I agree, Jim. My cousin and I were born in '51 and grew up watching TV. We had no doubt we were going to grow up to become Roy Rogers & Dale Evans. The fact they already existed wasn't a problem for us. Ah! Childhood. Anything can happen.

Gratitude to God, and the music, imagination, and dreams HE put into the world through people like the Roy and Dale Rogers, and the Pioneers. Today at 3 AM my Aunt Nora Sue Akers passed, in Tucson Arizona. I'll never forget the wonderful music and singing she and her sisters and others (including my Mom and Dad) did together. The great harmonies, and great playing; inspired by the Pioneers, and also people like the Carter family. I love you Aunt Sue. Thank you for always showing me love, family and The Lord. Happy Trails in God's world. Tell The Lord, Uncle John and Johnny, Momma, Dad, and Grand-Ma and Grand-dad I love them. I miss you terribly already, but I hope to see you again. You pray for us. 'Cause we all need it. Show less
