I bought one instantly after a test ride - great fun indeed and proves that you shouldn't discount anything until you've actually tried it. I agree that the rear suspension is very choppy for the first few hundred miles BUT contrary to logic I found that bumping the preload up one notch from the factory setting improves the ride immensely.

The rear suspension on my meteor was harsh for the first 1000 miles and I adjusted the preload to stop it bottoming out (it came with it set on the lowest setting) which improved the comfort.The front brake also took some miles to bed in and could be a bit weak in the wet EBC HH pads improve things but you still need to use both brakes to stop quickly .I expect it will be the same with the HNTR. I would have bought a HNTR instead of my meteor if it had been out at the same time but have been very happy with the meteor .

The Speed/Scrambler 400 has a service interval of every 10,000 miles / 1 year. Compare that to RE’s 350 requiring a service every 3000 miles / 6 months… I dare say the more-premium Triumph will cost less to own.
@johnludmon510

@@GO-fd6rmthe 3000 mile service are just a check over no oil change or valve adjustment the 6000 mile services are not that expensive either. In the UK there is a £1200 ish difference in price between the HNTR and the triumph £1700 for the scrambler which is a fair amount. Personally I think there is room for both the 400cc triumphs and the 350 cc Enfields in the market as the meteor and the classic aren’t aimed at the triumph buyers and the HNTR is significantly cheaper.

I had a Honda 250 with similar power that was able to make 82 mph on the highway. The RE is heavier, but probably more stable in the winds. Should be able to do 70 mph. I like they have the center stand. Beats using a milk crate. We finally got the 350 Hunter in the U.S. The Honda PCX 150/160 can do 75 mph.

Honestly this is the only 350 RE that would really need the new 450 engine of the himalayan. 20hp are perfect on small classic bikes like meteor and bullet where the goal is to relax and chill. But the hunter aims at at different target and wants to be more sporty. 40 hp would be perfect for this bike.

If you haven't already, you need to ride the Meteor 350 and the Classic 350. Both of which, I believe, are a bit more substantial in feel than the Hunter. I rode all three during the Sturgis Rally last August and I found the Meteor to be the most comfortable and cushy, while the Classic was the best looking. The brakes on yours might work better after a few more miles.

An aftermarket air filter on a computer controlled fuel injected engine is not going to add more power. If you want to increase power you'll need an exhaust, intake and different spark plug as well as a new ECU tune. Just swapping your exhaust and air filter without a tune will just push your torque curve higher causing you to lose low end.

Nice looking bike but the pricing in the Toronto area is just not competitive. RE Toronto has this bike for $5555, after freight and pdi it is $6978 before tax. The new Triumph speed 400 is $5795 before freight and pdi. For essentially the same money I’ll take the Triumph with the extra 20hp every time. 20Hp just isn’t enough for our roads. I had a Honda CB300R as my first bike a few years ago and while fun as a beginner bike it was too underpowered with 31hp and it only weighs 317lbs wet. Today the Honda only costs $300 more than the RE after Freight and pdi.

Twenty horsepower is just not enough. Not if you are a full-size adult and plan on riding on highways ever. If you only plan to put around on the back roads, then it might be good for a laugh on a Sunday afternoon. But why would you want to restrict yourself in that way? Eventually, you're gonna want to ride further than the corner store or local green lanes. And you need at least 30 horsepower (preferably closer to 40) to do that comfortably.

After riding this about for 3 weeks I completely disagree. It'll do 65-70mph on the motorway so it's perfectly fine and will do it all day long. It might not ideal for that sort of travelling, but it will do it. I prefer the scenic route anyway!

Yeah, my 23hp Yam SR400 just doesn't get ridden enough for this exact reason. Backroads are fun if you're on your own, otherwise your mates vanish into the distance unless the roads are really twisty. Motorways are an absolute chore and the slightest breeze seems to push you around. For town riding "to the shops", I tend to take the missus' twist-and-go vespa...

When in fact it's much more than that, It's incredible value for money, Incredible miles per gallon, Cheap to Insure, Great for Learners, Great for Older rider's such as myself, Who have bought one for a second bike, to ride all year round, The list is endless for the Hunter 👍 Cheers Paul

Save your money and buy a better bike. You’re basically buying 50s technology with a nice paint job. Sure, you can have fun on any bike but if you are only in the city a scooter or a 125cc bike would be much better and a lot lighter. If you’re a new rider on a full licence a midrange 500-700cc bike is so much more capable, just as much fun, will actually stop when you pull the brakes, will weigh the same as this bike but won’t be threatening at all. Even at £1.5K more I can see the new Triumph 400s eating into RE sales, if they ride as good as they look.
