Royal Navy task force gears up for landmark deployment

A Royal Navy task force is getting ready to set sail on the inaugural Littoral Response Group South deployment.
Forward deployed and based out of Duqm in Oman, this LRG is focused on the Indo-Pacific region.
The deployment will see hundreds of personnel from the UK Commando Force, the Fleet Air Arm and ships including RFA Lyme Bay and RFA Argus undergo joint training in the Indian Ocean, working with countries including Kenya and Australia.

It’s a good concept. Just need to government to stop cutting defence forces so these concepts can actually work. No escorts. A frigate with sub sea detection is a minimum. Preferably a destroyer and an SSN somewhere in the area is needed aswell to actually be able to do a mission and be safe.

Both LPD out of action. No air cover. Only one Astute at sea, probably with QE. The term, Sitting Ducks seems appropriate.

@kennethscott4190 Argus carries helicopters. They're not gonna deploy a carrier with an amphib group. The Bay class can also serve an LPDs role, they're based off a European LPD after all. Certainly we could do with escorting the group but better to send it than try to scramble a group together.

Humanitarian aid isn't what our armed forces are for. There a re so many very rich charities with very rich senior management who could spend money on such things....but they don't. They wouldn't want to dig into their huge capital sums.... Our military are there for one primary role, to engage with the enemy and kill them as efficiently as possible. That's why it used to be called the War Office.

It had over 16 battleships, 52 Aircraft carriers, 62 cruisers, 257 destroyers, 131 submarines and 9,000 other ships. Today the Royal Navy has 70 commissioned ships. All things considered it's still a blue water Navy - just a shadow of what it once was.

@@RJM1011 Not really? V Hulls and roll cages are equally essential against a 100lb charge and a 1000lb one. The most common causes of deaths are injuries from the rollover (especially gunners) and shockwave injuries, which the V hull prevents. Considering the jackals replaced land rover, which had none of these, it's extremely effective
