Hi Colin & thanks for another great video. Ill try your tip of using paraffin to clean my chain (instead of WD40). Not keen on the wax either. My choice for chain lube is gear oil. Used it for years too, with no issues & very little or no fling off from it if you apply sparingly & work it in with a brush or gloved hand.

Hi John, thank you, yes paraffin is a great cleaner and it has no damaging effects on the rubber O rings, gear oil as you say is an excellent choice, along with chain saw lube, anything but wax, it's far too sticky and only makes things worse in my eyes, take care ......... Colin ☺️

I would do exactly the same thing , I recently replaced the chain and sprockets on my Triumph Sprint 900 , the new chain was covered in a sticky wax that attracts dirt and dust , bit of a wipe with WD40 and off it came , I then applied some proper chain lube , I think the sticky wax is just a protective coat put on at the factory , love the new bike by the way 😉

@@OldSkoolGrandad hi, thank you so much, I'm loving every minute of it, except it won't stop raining 🤣, yes that wax is awful stuff, it's so sticky, I agree with you that's it's probably a protective coat applied at the factory, but you would think when they PDI it it would be removed and lubed , or am I expecting to much 😜....... Colin ☺️

Morning Colin, to late mate told your better half your using her tooth brush on your chain, you are now in big trouble 😂😂😂 I would have used the lift Colin, did mine on the drive, on the floor, and the knees & back took a beating. The chain on the classic looks fine I think they are pretty good quality no tight spots or anything, what’s is the matter with us, can get down but getting up 😳- 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m on my last 2 bottles of Scott oil haven’t seen it in France 🥴but should last a while, the chain spray from lidle normal comes in - in the spring along with the cycling gear, when I was working for Hein Gericke people opted for the wax or similar as they didn’t like the flick on their back wheels number plate n chain guard, never bothered me, and I rarely change out my chains on my bikes. ….. Morning Pete, she's always got a load of new toothbrushes in the cupboard, she'll never miss one 😅😅, your right, I should have used the lift, it's ok getting down but getting back up is never easy😅, I prefer oil anyday to Wax, must be an age thing 😂, usually Lidl like you say have all the sporty stuff in the spring, and they did, but no W5 chain oil, so i need a substitute and quick .......... Colin ☺️

@@droneon29 I don’t know what I will do when my last 2 bottles of Scott oil have gone, should have got some more when I shot back to the uk recently, 🙄 duh. My fall back will be chainsaw oil not sure if that will effect the O or X ring chains though, yeah you may be right about it being an age thing, as far as I can tell the wax coats the chain I like oil cos it’s absorbed into the links especially applied when the chains hot and to me that is lubrication 🤣 cos I’m old …. Hi, yes I agree the wax seems to sit in the chain and attracts all the dirt whereas the oil sinks in, it definitely an age thing 😅, I should imagine that oil will be ok as long as it has no detergent in it, my daughter's going over yo the uk in January, if you need some oil ? ...... Colin ☺️

I got some chain oil spray from Lidl. It’s not W5, it’s Parkside, and tin is smaller, with a green label.😊

Morning Mark, that's interesting, I've used the W5 for several years and it's really done a great job, but as I said the last time it was available here was 2 years ago, I'll do a search for the parkside brand, cheers mate, ride safe ......... Colin ☺️
