while i understand this perspective, i hate how the bigotry against us is blamed on us, and turned into an individual (rather than systemic/cultural issue) when people say things like "that guy's so homophobic, he must be gay". sure, there are cases like that. but honestly, this kind of speculation feels gross and inappropriate to me. at least you could say, she is projecting her unhappiness at living a "controlled" and "pure" life by criticizing those who prioritize their own happiness and sin, which, in her cultural framework, means gay people

Jodi was Ruby's son's therapist, then she did "marriage therapy" for Ruby and her husband. Then she went into business with Ruby. She was also the therapist for one of Ruby's brothers or brother in law. And it really seems like her relationship with Ruby was something other and business/therapeutic. There were so many dual relationships with her!

Ik Dr. Honda always says there are lots of therapists out there like him, but not the ones i see, especially not on tiktok. What’s upsetting at the same time is that people who are commonly under-diagnosed, specifically autistic girls/women/afab ppl, are finding that self diagnosing is the only way to get that diagnosis / get educated about their autistic traits, because their doctors are so oblivious to their autism. Though that is a very specific situation, and i definitely still do see a LOT of people falsely/quickly/carelessly self diagnosing on the basis of little to no logic or research

@@cjgroom109you need to advocate for yourself with your physician. They’re not with you 24/7 and can’t know you’re autistic from just one look at you. If you suspect you have autism say this to your physician. If they don’t take you seriously, find a new physician. Most physicians will look into this and take it seriously if you bring it up. I’m currently doing a research paper on this very topic for my Senior Seminar course (final course for my bachelor’s degree). One recent study looked at the accuracy of informational videos on TikTok, wherein they categorized the posts in several ways and rated the accuracy of the information (accurate, inaccurate, generalization). Obviously it’s difficult to determine the consequences of what people do with information, whether accurate or not. Generally, studies conclude that it doesn’t help in efforts to rid of the stigma surrounding mental illness, according to negative and/or harmful statements made on social media. On the other hand, as someone here also pointed out, there are many people who were misdiagnosed, never diagnosed, or never had access to see a clinician for diagnosis that have come to rely on this information online. As Dr. Honda is aware, many people misuse clinical terms, and while stigma is certainly an issue that has varied effects, there is not much we can do to stop people from talking about these things. We can only do our best to support those who offer more accurate information and encourage others to do the same.

I’ve been following this story via Mormon Stories and Jordan & McKay, and I really appreciate your insights! The Mormon Stories interview with Adam Paul Steed (currently unavailable, but they’re working to be able to bring it back) goes into deep detail about Jodi’s “men’s groups”-she separates couples who start out together in group sessions by gender, and seems to work to turn the wives against their husbands (words like “abuser,” “addict,” and “cheating” are used in rather inventive ways!). Adam was eventually kicked out of BYU after Jodi got involved in his marriage and disclosed things to a church leader, and he is the client whose report got Jodi’s license suspended at one point. I hope more people who have been harmed by Jodi’s methods are able to speak out now that she’s being investigated!

As if we haven’t seen the videos of Kevin cheering Ruby’s abuse on. Separate from the abuse, Kevin is screwed anyway: Under Utah Code 76-5-109, child abandonment is defined as a parent or legal guardian with custody of a child (a person under age 18), leaving the child for 30 days or longer. A violation of Subsection (2) is a second degree felony if, as a result of the child abandonment: the child suffers a serious physical injury. It really doesn’t matter if he didn’t know there was abuse, he has broken the law regardless.

As an exmormom the idea that there should not be lust in marriages is not a common idea. In fact it is closer to the opposite. There is this expectation that you don’t do anything before marriage but instantly flip the switch to do everything and frequently. That transition is often difficult particularly for women because they had so many lessons m how they needed to guard against men and sex to keep the law of chastity. So many messages that a women’s value is linked to her “purity.”

When she pushed back, he’d say it was her duty as a wife. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 When she got the courage to refuse him completely, he went out and had affairs with multiple coworkers for over 18 years. When my parents announced they were finally getting a divorce after 31 years of misery, it was one of the happiest days of my life.

I hope this trial is going to be live to watch. I want to see Jodi without makeup or a decent hairstyle trying to defend herself. I’m not sure if any of you have seen the interview on, “Mormon Stories Podcast” with Jodi’s niece, Jessi, gives a very interesting insight into Jodi’s mindset. Jessi was brought to live with her Aunt Jodi as a teen, she was subjected to the same tortures, and physical abuse, that the two Franke children were. When Jesse escaped Jodi fled the Country. Jodi’s whole mindset is obsessed with sex, porn, and masturbation, just like all of the Mormon Bishops/this Cult are. She falsely accuses every male client she has with some form of sexual deviant behaviour. Look at her actions against Adam Steed, speaking of him, a few days ago a Court Order was served on, “Mormon Stories Podcast” to take down the interview they did with him. They, the MSP site, posted a small explanation, along with a general summary, discussing exactly what was said in that interview with Adam.

Dr. Kirk: Apart from the abuse, is this also negligent parenting? It seems like the parenting approach avoided the hard work of attuning to your children, communicating effectively, modeling behavior, etc. aka the hard work of parenting, in favor of a lazy Do-What-I-Say-Or-Be-Punished approach.

6:42 Ugh. I hate that. Children that are raised by parents can only live with them until they are 18 years old and then set off. If they have to leave a toxic family or family member they can continue on their remaining lifetime without that person in it (could be around 60-70 years). Parents that have this demand on their child will loose them.

especially Jodie seems to think similar to my father and believe that feeding and housing your children is something you deserve praise and obedience for, especially in form of "asking for your advice" aka "doing as you say". at the same time if a child "disappoints" her reaction is "that little brat exploited (!) me and now let's get the tools to break his/her legs". it's practically 100% my father except that he's an atheist which spared us the extra cruelty displayed here. if he'd had thought he's not only right but god-right the whole story would have turned into something even more harmful. some weeks ago he told us he can't be to blame for anything that happened because he "never beat us up" which is nice but doesn't make him that great. he was really shocked when i laughed at him 😄

The way it looks to me is that, Ruby was possibly a long fan of Jodi''s before getting involved with Jodi or was familiar with the same teachings (aparently there is some scary parenting book from 94' with some of these ideas). Then the Franke's send their oldest son to wilderness camp, which rumor has it was also orchestrated by Jodi somehow. Kevin had been filmed defending the abuse claims saying they were following the advice of a therapist around that same time that they sent their son there, persumably before Ruby and Jodi got close. In addition to this, based on the Adam Steed interview and other claims, Jodi's MO was to separate wives and husbands AND the Mormon bishops had a history of referring memebers to Jodi very regularly (enough for her to make her millions, I guess). So in that sense, it seems to me the Franke's were referred. Jodi wasn't likely seeking clout, it doesnt seem like she needed to. But as far as Kevin and his lawyer are concerned, well, his lawyer, imo is just framing things the way he needs to in order to win, but Kevin seemed to be aligned/on board with Ruby's style of punishment/abuse - he may have only started deviating from that around the time that Ruby had gotten worse before closing down her channel. Total spectulation, but I'm thinking he took an issue when they took Chad's bed away, and when they sent him to camp, only he was coming around to these things and filmed as such, since it was advised from an LPCC. He likely also took sides in the family around the same time that Ruby's sisters and mother were taking issue with the direction Ruby was heading as well. And that's sort of what instigated the split, perhaps also part of Jodi's long game tactic of isolating Ruby, so she would become a greater devote cult memeber.

I forgot about how gay people didn't exist before tictok... Lol...I don't know if it's possible to turn people gay but it's definitely possible to make them stupid and/or brainwashed. Therapists have a lot of power. I've only been a client but I know there are things I've done I wouldn't have if I didn't have my therapist pushing me. I'd like to think that the things I've done are more positive than this. I know I never duct taped my kid... But I can totally see how someone like Jodi could take someone who really has good intentions of parenting and make them monsters. Sometimes as a parent you really are at a loss on what to do or how to act and having a bad therapist would be really terrible for someone in that state.

Dr. Honda do you think Ruby or Jodi be open to seek therapy/counseling? Based on your experience are people like them damage goods forever? It's interesting that everything that she deems distortion is exactly what she does to others. I wouldn't be surprise if later on we find out she may be lesbian and that may be the reason she despise men, gay, conventional marriage. She may be suppressing and condemning her own desires. I find it unlikely that anyone outside the mormón church would listen to her or seek therapy. I would like for you to do a video on the negative effect these type of abuse can have on children.

About Jodi manipulating Kevin into staying away from his family. This is not unique. This is something Jodi has a habit of doing. Adam Paul Steed related something similar. The level of crazy going on with Adam Paul Steed was impressive. While under Jodi's influence, his wife called the police because he had put his backpack on the couch. This was a transgression so awful in her eyes the police needed to be involved. And if you are going to regard such small things as criminal offenses, there's no way the husband can ever redeem himself. It's a pattern of Jodi's.

Yeah, I agree that Kevin genuinely didn't engage with the kids for all that time, and I think it's because a) he was completely brainwashed by Jodi into believing he was the problem in the family and needed to be away to save it (she did this to other men too, where they completely isolated themselves from their own families for lengthy periods of time, or until a divorce); and b) he is a complete walkover and was dominated and guided by Ruby, and would do anything she said. If she forced him out, I believe he'd take it. But I also 100% agree that that does not exonerate him from the things he was complicit in while he was still living in that house. PS: I'm pretty sure this is not something Jodi did on the fly. It was a tried and tested method for her. If you watch Adam Steed's interviews, it was something she did for years. Couples therapy at the beginning, to get everyone at ease. Separate the couples into men and women's groups, where the women were brainwashed into believing their husbands were evil perverts, and the men were broken down systematically and brainwashed into leaving their families lest they infect them with 'distortion'. This has been going on for years. Jodi's mistake was preying on a family that was in the public eye.

I distinctly remember a message from a pastor about how evil it is to lust after your spouse, and how he had to be celibate within his own marriage for a time because he was lusting after his own wife. At the time I was so "inspired" by his holiness, not only to be convicted of this sin, but to confess it to all of us.... 🙄

We need to know more about Kevin’s upbringing to access why we think he should have halted what we saw. Seems we presume that Kevin is coming with higher parental skills than he had. My late husband was never spanked, I was as a child. Had he married a woman with a non-spanking background, then the children would likely not be spanked either. We bring our past and societal norms into our parental practices. I believe Kevin wanted his wife and children back, but seeking custody would definitely have removed a lot of money from the 8Passengers residual funds.

My mother didn't rise to this kind of level, but Ruby's sermons about how children don't get to have rights or privacy and this is Her House not Their House etc etc and then taking all that way beyond reason, using it as an excuse to exercise unfettered control over her children - that all reminds me of my mother. She'd say I was legally her property, and she could hit ne and starve me and isolate me and confine me to the home if she wanted. My therapist at the time backed her up and enabled her, too. I didn't realize how bad it was until I moved on and had new, better therapists in the future. (I'm not someone who moves from therapist to therapist looking for someone who will validate me, either - I've only had 3 therapists in 8-9 years of continuous therapy since then; I found new ones only when I moved; and they've all disapproved of the one who enabled my mother.) Now, listening about this story can be difficult (especially because these kids went through so much worse than I did) but some of Ruby's speeches are aomost verbatim from my mother's playbook, and it is SO incredibly validating to hear reasonable adults, including mental health professionals, decry this kind of parenting and this kind of parenting mentality. As a parent you are responsible for leading and guiding and supporting your children to the best of your ability in order to help them become well-adjusted, functioning adults, and we don't all have to agree down to the letter on what that means - but it does *not* mean your children are your property and you can do whatever you want with no consequences because you have "authority as the parent." Even if there aren't consequences for *you,* there will be consequences for your *children* if you choose to parent that way. It's never wise to view or treat a person like an object, or to conflate love with control.

While the abuse happening during the vlogging days was bad, I don't think it was criminal. I think it's fair that Kevin was unaware of the criminal abuse as far as we understand the facts since he was removed from the home.for 14 months. However, Natalie Lawyer Chick (defense attorney lawyer KZbinr. Very compassionate person), believes there's evidence to suggest the father is guilty of criminal abandonment for not having any contact, as far as we know, for those 14 months.

I definitely think it’s possible that he didn’t know about the restraining with duct tape, etc. I used to occasionally watch 8Passengers a decade ago. I was a teenager then and didn’t yet understand the damage of “family vloggers”. They were the first family vlogger channel I stopped watching because I realized things being posted were not okay and so stopped supporting them. Kevin absolutely participated in emotional abuse and allowed restriction of meals sometime as well as some other abusive behaviour. But I’m not sure he’d allow physically restraining their kids. Time will tell with what comes out about him.
