That's the beauty of air pistols. If you aren't fortunate enough to have the space for a range you can still get some safe marksmanship in your backyard or even indoors in a garage.

Received mine just today and shot it 200-400 times today in garage. It's a surprisingly good pistol. I've shot handguns for many years (actual firearms recently, as well as airguns long time ago), and I think Ruger Mark IV Pellet Pistol is an excellent training gun. I believe it has a much worse trigger than the corresponding firearm, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. It allows you to train your grip and trigger action better than any other airguns I know for the following reasons: 1. If you're doing your part, it is very accurate, at least at short range. You can repeatedly shoot a dime at 5 yards if you do your part. 2. The trigger is very very heavy, but predictable and consistent. Concentrate on keeping the pistol on target and keep pulling the trigger until you see a hole on the target, and you'll be surprised with your results. 3. The trigger is actually comparable with bad triggers on actual firearms, and the piston/cylinder/spring action inside mimic bad behaviors of some pistols quite well, so if you master this pistol, you'll shoot pretty much any handgun well (including double-action-only guns). 4. It's not loud. You don't need any ears protection and your neighbors won't be concerned. 5. It's not powerful. You will only need a very basic backstop, and if you miss you won't pierce any walls for sure. The gun is surprisingly well made. It's tight, copies the original quite well (even though I never had or shot one), and it doesn't feel like a cheap toy or anything like that. The fibre-optic front sight actually works quite well, even in a garage. The grip is reasonably comfortable, but not enough to let you relax. Overall, a great training gun for shooting in a garage and probably for plinking too!

I agree. The trigger could be better but I have shot worse. But as you said, If you do your part you can get decent groups out of it. I made another video yesterday comparing the Ruger to the Browning Buckmark. Thanks for watching!
@scriptguru83 жыл бұрын
Important note: I had to adjust the rear sight quite a lot until it was shooting at the point of aim. But once this is done, and I do my part, it's a very accurate gun. It's awesome that it has an adjustable sights, otherwise it would shoot a few inches off even at short range.
@musketman543 жыл бұрын
@@scriptguru8 I had to do the same thing with the Browning. Once I adjusted the Ruger and the Browning, the accuracy is there. I am definitely glad it had adjustment.

I just received my Mark IV pellet pistol. Once I came across it online I knew I had to give it a try. It’s great with the exception of the trigger pull. Very, very heavy. How’s the trigger on yours? Been curious about this as there aren’t very many reviews online in any capacity.
@musketman543 жыл бұрын
The trigger on mine is definitely the weakness of the pistol. It’s heavy as well. I got a Umarex Browning Buckmark literally the day after I made this video and the trigger on it is much smoother. I have put around 300 pellets through my Ruger over the past two days and it has smoothed out a bit but still not as smooth and the Browning. I’m hoping the more I shoot it the better it will be. FYI, I have shot JSB, H&N, RWS and a variety of other pellets through the Ruger. It seems to like Crosman Premier 7.4 gr pointed pellets the best and I’m getting 301 FPS with them. I still love shooting this pistol, it’s definitely a fun plinker!

Trigger is very heavy on mine too, but it's predictable and is pretty good for training. It's not a match trigger for sure, but it's similar to some worse actual firearms triggers. Good for training :D

Is the gun metal or plestic?
@musketman543 жыл бұрын
@@geofridleocadia4358 It has both. The frame and hardware are metal. The grips are plastic. It feels really durable.
@scriptguru82 жыл бұрын
@@geofridleocadia4358 It uses plastic where possible, but without sacrificing quality and function. It's a pretty heavy gun too, doesn't feel like a toy.

I've read that that air pistol doesn't have an anti bear 🐻 trap which makes me cautious about the barrel snapping back if the sear malfunctions.I had an old 1960's Webley Premier air pistol years ago and the barrel snapped back due to a worn out sear and I had a lucky escape fingers wise.I'm pretty sure it would have smashed up the bone and with an air rifle I dread to think about the results presumably Liberace would have to have given up piano playing had his air rifle cocking arm snapped back on his hand!
@musketman542 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t have an anti bear trap, my browning Buck Mark doesn’t have one as well. I’ve never really thought about it snapping back. Maybe keeping a hand on the barrel the entire time may be the best option?

I'm torn between this one and the Browning buckmark when I order one everyone one has a different fps rating on the Ruger ...replica Air guns here in Canada has them rated at 500 fps?
@musketman543 жыл бұрын
I have both the Browning Buckmark and Ruger. I am getting around 310-320 FPS with Crosman 7.4 pointed pellets. I can only speak for the ones I own. I would be curious what grain pellet they are using to get that kind of velocity?

Sounds like you're shooting steel. What distance? No danger of ricochet? Just curious
@musketman542 жыл бұрын
I shoot steel with everything I own. My 22LR’s and air rifles I use 3/16” CRS hanging on pieces of chain. The light weight steel will swing when struck with either one. I have never had a ricochet in hundred of thousands of shots. I have 5/8” AR500 steel targets that I use for my centerfire rifles. In my experience, if your target can swing free you are good to go. I would never shoot at a steel plate that is stationary with no movement. Hope that helps.

@@musketman54 yeah that helps thanks. I've got a 22 range with a bunch of hanging 3/16-in steel. Never thought of shooting pellets at it

The pellet pistol is pretty but it is poorly made , the rear sight wobbles , the cocking linkage rattles , the trigger is DREADFULL , it is like a childs toy , returned mine for a Beeman p17 for the same price - great pistol .
