No? Not really simple, but it's not as bad as ancient Greek.

"eamus" sound a lot like VAMOS in Spanish when you say it quickly, when you take into account the meaning.

The v- forms of ir in Spanish come from vado, vadere, while the i- and y- forms come from eo, ire. And there are even f- forms that come from sum, esse! So the corresponding form would be something like vadamus.

@@latintutorial That's even more of a connection, I can see how vadamus would be reduced to vamos! over time especially since its a word to do with moving quickly. Vadamus vadamus vamos por favor!

I was watching a clip on tv of the coronation of King Charles tonight, and as Queen Camilla was walking through the abbey, the choir called out “Vivat Regina Camilla” Am I right in thinking that was an optative subjunctive?

Yeah, I believe it translates to "Long Live Queen Camilla." Compare the Spanish phrase, "Viva la revolución," which uses the subjunctive as an optative in the same way.

How can I differentiate the uses of the subjunctive? "Mīlitēs vincant." could be: "The soldiers could win." "Let the soldiers win." "If only the soldiers would win" This is my problem with the subjunctive.
