I was in high-school during the invasion of Iraq, then served later in Afghanistan, I remember watching the news and thinking at how "shallow" the reporting was compared to documentaries I remember grandpa watching on the history Channel, what a time to be alive when high quality documentaries can be produced a month after the fact when the information isn't even history yet, keep it up guys.

Exactly, semantics aside, the fact I can get a better documentary a month after the event, without a commercial break every two minutes, than my fathers did years after is pretty cool.

Great video and a quick note: The UNs numbers only involve people verified by the UN which means areas under Ukrainian control. This number didnt include Mariupol or Severodonetsk. The morgue at Mariupol indicated a few times now they have processed more than 100 000 bodies of non combatants. This lines up with a city that couldnt evacuate of 400 000 that has been 90% destroyed & has a cholera outbreak.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) verified a total of 6,221 civilian deaths during Russia's invasion of Ukraine as of October 9, 2022. Of them, 396 were children. Furthermore, 9,371 people were reported to have been injured. However, OHCHR specified that the real numbers could be higher. (Number of civilian casualties during the war in Ukraine 2022 Published by Statista Research Department, Oct 11, 2022) Not saying your numbers are wrong, but the delta between these numbers is quite high, where did you get that information? I know you explained how this delta happened to exist, but still, I'd like to see a source. And this is no attempt to justify the Russian invasion, every death is a death too many. (Edit: grammar, not my native language)
@psavar97
@psavar97 Жыл бұрын
@@rjald4910 He isn't arguing or disagreeing with those death figures. He's simply adding that those figures are taken from Ukrainian territory that has been under Kiev's control. The occupied territories can not be inspected by UN personal the same way, so they don't get included to the total. If we then start "guessing" about the death numbers in the Russian controlled areas that's were the truly large numbers start coming in because of the city Mariupol where no one is sure how many died. Only that it's a lot....

On 24 February 2022, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" in eastern Ukraine.[8] Soon after, Russian forces crossed into the Ukrainian border and began to fight against Ukrainian troops.[9] Putin rejected a provisional deal with Ukraine that his chief envoy on Ukraine Dmitry Kozak proposed and that would have satisfied Russia’s demand for Ukraine to stay out of NATO, and instead insisted on launching the military operation. Thanks for this recap for the western audience out there. As a Ukrainian I keep a close eye on the events for obvious reasons, but many are too busy or don't want, this kind of stuff is good.

Hey Philip, appreciate the kind words. There is value in methodic education. As a KZbin channel we have less responsibility and can pick and choose the topics that will get the most views, but this creates imbalances in terms of knowledge of the viewers who would only rely on us.
