Ryan's attention to detail is unreal. This takes place 500 years in the future and if we presume an average age of around thirty for having kids that would be about 16 generations or so. So him saying "great" 15 times is actually really accurate.

I would argue that by at most 200 years in the future we will have cured aging, or at least slowed it enough, that a generation will be much much longer than it is now, but I am glad someone counted how many times he said great cause I was curious, but couldn't be bothered counting.

This is the most Ryanverse lore we've gotten in a while, so let's unpack: Plastic objects have their own sentience as well as their own culture. From what we've been able to tell, they resemble humans in their mannerisms and traditions, such as funerals and eulogies. They have extremely long lifespans, as 200 years is considered very short. They form deep bonds with humans they interact with and are generally friendly. Lastly, they do not like recycling at all. If I've missed anything, be sure to correct me and perhaps point out the significance of this new lore in the Ryanverse.

Fun Fact: Even if you recycle your plastic still ends up in the ocean because it can't... actually be recycled. Unless you're working with a local group that puts in the work to reforge plastic it typically gets separated from the paper and tin products at the recycling facility and... thrown in the trash.
@xagain3106
@xagain3106 2 жыл бұрын
It can be burned into ash to provide energy. Currently plastic isn't recycled outside of that because no one wants to bother with the acid it would take to break it down. Then you would reconstitute it back to the organic matter it came from. Which just makes it very expensive compost at that point. Not profitable. Not happening anything soon.

Friendly reminder that the “reduce” part of “reduce, reuse, recycle” is probably the most important one. Recycling water bottles is better than throwing them away, but they still have negative environmental effects associated with them. Best thing you can do is not buy plastic containers in the first place so we produce fewer of them (assuming you have alternatives, obviously not everyone has access to clean drinking water from taps and stuff, but if you can reduce consumption of them rather than still using them and recycling that’s way more environmentally friendly).

In a lot of places to get people to recycle in the first place the narrative is pushed that recycling basically makes you super environmentally conscious, when in reality recycling plastic specifically (things like aluminum cans are actually crazy efficient to recycle) does only a bit less harm than throwing it away

Ya'll ever notice how they switch from paper bags to prevent deforestation, they switch it to plastic and then that litters, so they switch it back to paper and they're like, "oh right trees again". Then back to plastic, but they scrapped that again for the previous reason, and now they're like, "here's an indestructible bag that's reusable, except it looks like the other one and is ugly so people will just throw them away and now they'llsit in a dump for like 1 thousand years " 😂 I feel like someone should sit down and think about it and what they've tried for more than 30 seconds.

I was just talking to someone the other day about paper towels and how we're switching back to those because we're using too much energy to run the dryers...but we installed the dryers because we were using too many paper towels and that was ruining trees. Seems like we're ruining everything 😂

I guess in human terms it could be argued like this: you retire from work at the age of maybe 55 to 65 (an item stopped working its proper functions), but instead of living the rest of your days by yourself (disintegrating by microbes), the government forces you to chop of your limbs an the rest of your still-useful organs in order to be used to build another human-like creature that are made of a combinations of others just like you
@peter9477

I'm actually disappointed this implies those are the only two options. A much better choice would be not to buy soda (or any drink) in plastic bottles in the first place. Recycling is a scam.
