Is it to make it seem like the climate catastrophe is a matter of small personal choices rather than a global structural political issue that 99% of the population wouldn't have an impact on even collectively without first changing the underlying infrastructure of everyday life? No no no. The sponsor will also provide a minimal response to climate action. You can't fight a metric tonne of oil being burned every hour with a bunch of trees that will grow over the period of 60+ years. Talking to politicians and local representatives and telling them to stop with fossil fuels is what is going to get us to be carbon neutral 😐. Planting trees is a great side project but far far from the solution.

@@8lec_R so you think you can trust politicians to make decisions to impact environment ? No I don't trust them (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean), but they are humans capable of understanding stuff, and it's frankly too stupid to let this opportunity go. As for the evidence you're asking, just read the IPCC report. You'll see how much emissions are produced. Then compare that to amount of carbon sequestered by a tree over it's lifespan. What people miss about plastics and other petroleum based products is that they are already being recycled. When oil is pumped out of the ground they extract the gasoline. That is the main revenue stream. That is the driving force behind pumping more oil. Everything else is made from the waste of that process. Asphalt, plastic, Styrofoam, rubber cement, motor oil. What ever form it takes is that this is the alternative to just dumping crude oil back into the environment. If you really want to attack climate change it's using less gasoline. I love how the solution to all these plastic problems is basically lets find the lowest possible weight of plastic and get rid of that like plastics bags and straws. I think long term it's going to be medium term biodegradable plastics replacing plastics and all we need for that to happen is for them to be cheaper than regular plastics or at least close enough that government subsidies make it untenable to keep using non biodegradable plastics.
@Mccar423 жыл бұрын
I see a lot more of the non-micro plastic/biodegradable plastics around lately. Suffolk County NY went full paper straws several years ago but some plastics apparently qualify. I went to a 7-11 last week and they gave me a fabric bag (really cheap feeling) instead of plastic or paper. Paper is AWFUL for bags in most cases since they rip apart so easily. Just food does well, once you add in groceries or large bottles it is all over.
