I live off grid in Alaska and I can charge the batteries really easily on my small solar system. I am using my miter and several other ryobi one tools to build a shed and later this spring on building parts of my new cabin. the lithium ion batts also perform surprisingly well in really cold weather.

I've been using one of these for a couple months now and I like it quite a bit. Here's what can't be overstated enough about this saw: it's TINY! You're not going to build a deck or cut window sills out with it and it's definitely not going to be your primary miter saw. On the other hand though, it's so small and light that you can just casually move it around wherever you want. It easily fits inside a compartment of my rolling toolbox. What's more, I have found it to be VERY accurate. The laser is adjustable and you can set it exactly on the edge of the cut. You can also adjust the lockdown lever to make it tighter. Out of the box, mine was also loose, but 5 minutes of fiddling with it fixed that. When I cut a 90 or a 45 with mine, the cut lines up exactly with my speed square. What it lacks is size and power. It only cuts about 4.25" and you can easily stall it out, but if you're looking for the smallest, lightest miter saw there is, it's what you want.

I had/have the Blue 18volt first gen. ryobi miter saw that I purchased years and years ago.. Used it sometimes but the blade speed was too slow to cut anything other than smaller trim and brick mold. When the new one came out I did purchase it and the blade speed had been increased and now we use this saw all the time on the job when doing any kind of trim and window/door brick moldings. We love it period !

My wife and I got this saw in 2017 as part of a combo pack. It's my first experience with electric miter saw. I love it. I've been using it to cut square ends of repurposed #pallets I've been tearing apart to make #farmhouseFurniture #rusticFurniture. It felt like my cuts wer slightly off square and I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong. Your video cleared that up, explaining that it travels when you lock it down. I will have to use my #kentuckyWindage next time. PS: The laser stopping the blade was a good tip. I ran I to that too, but didnt quite make that connection

I have the bigger brother saw the Ridgid 18 volt 7-1/4" cordless brushless dual bevel sliding miter saw and it is amazing, I haven't used my corded Ryobi 10" miter saw since I got my Ridgid over 3 months ago. For most of the kind of work I do and the size lumbar I cut the Ridgid works great, it will crosscut 8" and has a 2" depth cut capacity, love the dual bevel and the way it is setup with a pin so you can go back to dead zero very easy and then pull the pin out to bevel to the right, it has positive stop turrets on the bevel, I believe the first is 33.9 then 45 and 48. I love that it takes the 7-1/4" blades cuz it is such a common size and there is a huge selection and they are cheap plus I can share blades with my circ saw. I has a shadow cut line which is great I really like it unlike a laser you never have to adjust the shadow line it is always dead accurate. I have heard runtime tests all well over 200 cuts thru a 2x4 with a 5 amp battery, personally I don't know because I have never run a battery dead in one day it seems to run forever on a single charge. I love that it only weighs 24 pounds and has a small footprint making it so easy to transport and pack around, it is so easy to transport that the other day I needed to make about half a dozen cuts thru some 2x4s at my rental unit and instead of just doing it with my circ saw I just threw my Ridgid miter saw in the back seat of my car and took it down and made my cuts with it! The one last thing I gotta say about it is mine came fairly accurate out of the box and after i did a little adjusting on it the accuracy is dead on, bevel cuts, miter cuts, straight cuts, crosscuts you name it and it is always dead on accurate I just love it. I have 20 Ridgid 18 volt tools and they are all great I haven't been disappointed in a single one they all do their job really well and I have to say that my favorite Ridgid 18 volt tool out of the 20 I have would be a toss up between my Ridgid 18 volt miter saw and my Stealth Force impulse driver. Unfortunately since Ryobi is the youngest brother I doubt they will ever get a cordless slider, just like Ridgid being the middle brother gets a 7-1/4" slider but bigger brother Milwaukee gets a full size 10" sliding miter saw! For those of you who don't know what I am talking about it is that TTI owns all 3 brands Ryobi, Ridgid and Milwaukee with Ryobi considered to be their base brand and Ridgid to be their mid-grade brand and Milwaukee to be their high end brand.

I use this for simple short jobs that doesn't required hours of cutting. Like replacing a door or window that will need new trim. The ability to just go onto a job site and not have to run an extension cord makes this worthwhile. I also have other Ryobi 18v tools and can switch batteries out of necessary. I would not use this saw with anything less than the hi-capacity 4Ah battery or higher. It is also not meant for high production work where there is a lot of cutting required. The laser will get covered with dust and has to be cleaned often, sometimes after just a few cuts. Just swiping your finger across the laser lens is all that is needed.

I love this saw. I got 44 cuts off of a compact lithium-ion cutting 2x4's. I am a contractor but do a lot of small jobs and like that I can bring this around for small jobs very easily. Great for shoe molding and small trim. Getting cordless is great. Can't wait to get the nailers so I can ditch bringing the compressor just to install a door or two.

I’ve had one for about two years now. It’s extremely small and lightweight and mine is quite accurate. You can adjust the tension on the stop bolt and that will eliminate the slop. Honestly though, the only reason I still have it is because of its size and weight. I can keep it tucked away in one of the tool bins on my truck and I just don’t want to give up the additional space that a more capable saw would take up. Also, because it is so small and light, it’s a simple matter to pull it out and use it. It’s a great saw for trim, but that’s about all. At some point in the future, maybe I’ll rebuild the bins in my truck and get a 20v Dewalt instead.

This is an awesome little saw...I own almost every tool made by ryobi and wouldn't trade them for nothing. I use this saw for all kinds of projects...cutting 2×4's for framing...ABS pipe when doing plumbing...cutting aluminum rails when installing shower doors or aluminum thresholds...it is very versatile but if it was a slide it would make it so much better also the fact that it does not have a lever to turn the angle cuts makes it a little hard to slowly reach the desired angle of ur cut....but all in all a great product and vert affordable

I have this saw. You covered most of my complaints about it. One major thing I don't like is you have to cut really slow or the saw quits. I had the same problem with the laser. I don't use it at all now since I can barely see it, and it causes a head ache with restarting the saw. I wish you could plug it in to 110v too.

I have this unit. I work in an apartment, so size is an issue. I also have a Makita 10" SCMS, I put that unit into storage in favor of the Ryobi. The scale of my work must be also scaled down to the space I have -- and I'm doing woodworking, not carpentry. Yes, I wish I could cut a 2x4 at 45 degrees, but how often do I need to do that? Everything else is covered with my Ryobi cordless circular saw or my Bosch BT4100 table saw -- yes, all are in my apartment.

I love this saw! But it stalls. And the only method I tried to get it to restart was to remove battery, and reinsert. I didn't try the laser switch. I tried out Ryobi 10" sliding miter. Blah, plastic pointers for angles. I love this little saw, if it was only brushless and had the power of my M18 7 1/4 saw, it would be perfect. I don't want to see sliding added to this saw because it's already very light and compact. Very easy to move, reposition, which is often easier to move the saw, than the workpiece. I cut 2x6's with it, but requires flipping, and patience to deal with the stall. Stalls suck on this because holding everything lined up, and having to eject and reinsert battery, is a 3 handed maneuver. I will try flipping the laser switch ASAP. I was able to cut 3" PVC baseboard with this and found it quite accurate. Even when splicing together lengths with 45 degree cuts. If only Ryobi would make this little guy brushless and more powerful, I would buy it for sure!! This saw form factor is incredibly handy. It just needs a refresh with more power, or at least more ability to resist stalling. I have the M18 10" sliding miter. It's not nearly as 'handy' and light as this little guy. Small trim and some 2x4's and occasional 2x6 is this things scope. Also PVC pipe, and aluminum with higher tooth carbide blade. I use a decking blade.

I honestly think that for the difference in price the new DeWalt 20v miter is so vastly superior that someone would cost themselves money on a job by not going ahead spending the extra money to get a slide and far superior runtime and quality. Ryobi is ample but for work projects you cannot beat DeWalt quality.

Jeremy Neill Hmm, I didn't know Dewalt came out with a Cordless miter saw until you mentioned this. I gotta go look for one :). The plus for the Ryobi is the price. Dewalt makes great tools, and other than the ridiculous cost of replacement batteries, I've had great luck with my 18VXRP tools. The past couple years I've started having my batteries fail. I'm down to 2 batteries from the 8 batteries I had. I'm looking into having them rebuilt by a local battery company for $40 and they put in higher capacity (Amp Hour) batteries. 1 battery is about $90 so I can get 2 rebuilt for that price LOL, plus have better capacity. Going to give that a try. Can't afford the new 20V tools but eventually I plan on upgrading.
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict 9 жыл бұрын
William Todd There are two or three times a year that The Home Depot will put battery packs of two on sale. It is usually Father's Day, Labor Day, and Christmas time. At that time, you can usually get two batteries for $119 (about half off). I've never gotten batteries rebuilt, but I know you can with the 18 volt DeWalts. The 20 Volt Max batteries are actually the same voltage as the 18 volts. The reason for the change is the 18 volt batteries can't grow with the new tools... what I mean is all of the new tools coming out have electronics in them and the batteries need to be able to communicate with the tools somehow and the 18 volt batteries are not set up to be able to do that. So, as brushless tools evolve and the tools are able to perform better, the batteries need to be able to work with the tool. I know its a hard pill to swallow, but if plan on buying more tools in the future, it might be worth looking into a new battery platform. I wish they would come up with an adaptor so you could use new 20 volt batteries on the old 18 volt stem pack batteries. That would make the change over for most people much easier.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 9 жыл бұрын
WorkshopAddict Yeah a local battery shop can rebuild the 18V batteries, they can rebuild all of those old batteries as well. Not sure what the battery internals are on the new ones, but they are most likely different. I kind of wondered if they were updating batteries to keep up with the electronic portion of everything. I know they have an adapter to use the 18V Li-Ion batteries with the old 18V Ni-Cad tools but you still have to buy a different charger LOL. Yes, eventually I plan on buying new tools, but it will probably be 1 at a time. Buy the batteries and chargers. Couple of each to start out with and then just buy the bare tools as I go. It took me a while to get a lot of the Dewalt 18V stuff, I'd just buy the bare tool when I needed it as I had the batteries/chargers already.

+Jeremy Neill I haven't used the cordless DeWalt, but to me it seems like a completely different kind of saw. What's really cool about the Ryobi is just how small and light and portable it is. If you take the useless dust bag off it's actually about the same size and weight as a worm drive saw. For big cuts, forget about it, but if you're just doing small stuff it's great. The DeWalt on the other hand appears to be competing with full size corded saws. It's much larger and about twice the weight.

+adriane carrier just so we are all clear... I fully agree the 20 volt Lithium batteries are way better than the 18 volt Nicad...... But I want to clarify that the Dewalt 20 volt max batteries are really an 18 volt battery. The Milwaukee M18 and Dewalt 20 volt max run at the same voltage. Same with the Ryobi 18 volt, it runs at the same voltage as the Dewalt 20 volt max. There are quality differences between the batteries used.... But the voltage claimed when you see the word MAX is simply marketing.
