FYI - perimenopausal changes start occurring up to 10 years prior to your last menstrual period. Menopause is 12 consecutive months without a period. In addition, during perimenopause you initially produce more estrogen than you ever did in your reproductive years and have less consistent production of progesterone. Thus, many women experience increase irritability, weight gain, increased PMS, “flooding” (periods where you cannot leave the bathroom) etc. estrogen will eventually drop at menopause. Btw - hot flashes are not simply from “low estrogen” it’s actually microfluctuations with high levels that drop that occur throughout day that mess with your thermostat. Taking estrogen helps not because of deficiency but rather because it flattens out the fluctuations thereby not triggering the thermostat (during perimenopause) Hormones are very complicated and affect immune function, brain chemistry, and energy. Wow. Sorry. I’ve been specializing for >22 yrs and would really like more women to get accurate info so they can be informed and empowered 💪🏻 Glad your helping open women’s eyes Penny 👍🏻

Menopause & peri-M is like getting hit with a 2x4. Because of my mother succumbing to breast cancer, I am not a candidate for HRT. None of my usual tricks worked for keeping weight down, skin plump, etc...realized meno calls for a whole new game plan. Completely gave up sugar, alcohol, went low carb & IF and switched up my tired old exercise regime. Wish I did this in my 20's. Hot flashes completely stopped, brain fog lifted, sleeping better, lost weight, skin seems better & calmer.

Well not drastic but I’ve always been told I look too young to have my children and I don’t get that as much since going into menopause. All of your skin care recommendations have helped so much. I always thought I should use anti-aging in my 30’s and I thought if I did it then then I could slow down the aging process as you said. Thank you again for the work you do.🥰 It’s a lot of info and time that I don’t take for granted. I feel like I’m in class 🤓when I watch you. I have paper and pen ready to take it all in. And I promise if you find a good naturopathic doctor who specializes in women’s health .. They will do a hormone panel get your history and find if you are a candidate for bio identical hormones.. Ladies , you have to study up on this stuff so you can be an advocate for your health care. Your dr will do what is good for them only . Only estrogen replacement can help your skin , bones , brain , etc. it protects against disease, the long term goal for me . All our body’s cells are used to estrogen so it doesn’t make sense that women avoid/ miss the opportunity for hormone replacement ????

I started to get hot flashes at 39. I'm going to be 53 in November. my last period was last year, with some spotting this year. I noticed my jowls and marionettes a couple of years ago. I used tretinoin since my late 20s for acne. I've been off it for about 6 months now, but started taking your advice on various skin solutions, including a microneedling pen.

Believe it or not, I actually stumbled upon this estrogen related aging issue several years ago. One reason that I have always loved your channel is that you actually dig deep and study just like I do. I actually once wanted to be an aesthetician until my aesthetician told me that working with the women in my area was absolute torture LOL. I am so down to earth that I would not want to have to put up with the drama. Anyway, I can’t believe that I missed this video because this has always been a major topic that I discuss with my friends all the time. Testosterone also plays a role. Hormones regulate so much in our body. I respect your opinion more than any esthetician . I wish that you were here in my area . Thank you for the hard work . It’s such hard work digging through all the studies and determining what’s true and what’s not . Big hugs 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 PS , I use Premarin cream ( very low dose ) for peri menopausal symptoms. But I want to switch to bioidentical because Premarin makes me nauseous sometimes. I was just noticing some skin that had become very thin on my body is now firmer suddenly after using the Premarin.

WHAT an important, informative video!!! I so wish I had had this information earlier in life. I didn't even THINK about the big M until I was totally in the throes of it. SUDDENLY--and I mean suddenly--I looked at myself and didn't recognize the face looking back at me. I did NONE of the preliminary protections and I got lucky that my skin isn't worse than it is. I still have the NIOD Superoxide Dismutase mist on my "list." :-) Also, those before and after photos and statistics on the Emepelle are impressive enough that that product is going on my birthday list.

Great informative video.... loved it! I’m 50 and don’t appear to be anywhere near menopause yet (dammit🙄). I’m certainly not rushing toward it, but seriously over the monthly visits from Aunt Flo. Anyway, I think it’s super important to be educated on what to expect and how to prepare for menopause. Last year I started watching Menopause Taylor on KZbin (originally known as Menopause Barbie). What an amazing resource! She’s a retired GYN specializing in menopause. In her videos she takes you thru ALL of your options for dealing with estrogen loss. The loss of estrogen does more than cause wrinkles. It leads to heart disease and dementia and bone loss. It’s crazy how important that hormone is! But I highly recommend checking out her channel. Of course she covers HRT, but she also offers multiple other options for people of different lifestyles and beliefs. She covers medical options, holistic options, natural medicines, etc... Because of her, I am so ready to tackle menopause.... now if it would just get here! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤪😊
@PENNSMITHSKINCARE
@PENNSMITHSKINCARE 3 жыл бұрын
Yes yes yes! I’m not rushing it either but I totally get what you’re saying! I agree 1000% that education is KEY in all aspects of menopause. SO much more than skin (wrinkles/sagging etc). I agree that that dang hormone is crucial to our health in so many ways. Thank you for the menopause Taylor recommendation!! 💜💜💜

This is so timely! You are so right. Perimenopausal affects on skin just sneak up on you. I am 51, have not had a period since January. From mid 2018 I was having super heavy, clotty periods and my skin was just so weird. I have been oily my whole life. My skin felt, rough, an odd combo of oily and dry, especially my cheeks. I ramped up my skincare routine, still need to do more and be more consistent, but things are getting better. I had an appt with my gynecologist and he’s checking my hormones. I may be using some type of HRT, that will be safe for me. I have hot flashes and sleep issues, so we are taking all that into consideration. I am going to read through these great links. I need to work on my diet and exercise too.

Hi! Happy Saturday! Glad I found you! I'm living down the Columbia Gorge now, my hubby lived in the Hollywood dist. I can't get the company to answer me about my Azelaic acid. It would be nice if they would just say there have been no studies on that, but for weeks....silence. Also, I was putting on my retin`A on first then Emepelle.....oops! Guess, I will switch. I haven't gotten the night one because I still have retinA. I love the light serum!!! And, hey gang, one bottle lasts almost 3 months! I'm deaf and my SSI is only 100 dollar a month! I had to use my stimmie check to shell out for a bottle ( choking all the way..it wasn't easy!) and, I noticed a difference within a week!! I just got a full hysterectomy at 58 years old and really didn't notice aging until after the surgery....and now here we go................wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..... on the menopause train! LOL! It does help, ladies!!! And you don't gain 40 pounds like I did on HRT!!! More soon! Love your channel, gorgeous!!

Excellent video, Penny. I always took care of my skin since I was a teen. I stayed out of the sun and used sunscreen all the time. I started menopause in my late 40's and stepped up my skincare routine with it. I'm in my early 60's now and I absolutely love all your videos. I've added more serums and I started micro-needling (11 pin - monthly) with nano needling (weekly) in between. I'm also really excited about the updated chart you just mentioned. I've been following the one your suggested in your AM/PM video, and I am beginning to see real results; hallelujah! The past couple years have been really difficult for me. I lost people I loved, and it took its toll on me. I never had dark circles under my eyes before. Q: Do you have any suggestions for getting rid of dark circles under the eyes? Q: And, can you explain the purpose and usage of 'essences' in a skincare routine?

I bought the Emepelle serum four months ago after watching a Dr. Dray video on it. I found it on sale for $140, which is still pricey, but better than $175. I am 52 and believe that my estrogen has been low for the last year (based on symptoms, haven't been tested in a few years), so this product sounded very interesting to me. I used the serum for almost a week and loved it. We were still in the covid-19 shutdown, and I was trying to use up some of my other products, so I stopped using. I had forgotten about this serum until I watched this video. Thank you for reminding me. I just got my Empelle serum back out and used it. I haven't used it long enough to see extra collagen production, but the serum gives my skin a nice healthy glow.

amperage Any HRT will need to be prescribed. So no, I don’t figure it out on my own. I take progesterone too, 10 times/month. I used to check levels- but I really do not anymore as all it will say is that my estrogen is low. Even with the estrogen patch I use. You adjust based on symptoms. It’s not something that you take and wind up with too much estrogen. Usually doctors start you off low anyway. I like Menopause Barbie here on KZbin. She has excellent information. Estrogen protects your heart and bones. I have osteopenia which is another reason why I’ve been on estrogen. Talk to a gynecologist that deals mainly with menopause .

Yes I agree. The studies have shown cancer risk increased after the age of 65 AND had many years of HRT under their belt by that age. Someone would need to start HRT very early AND continue to use it till their much older. I’ve had to use HRT for the last 4 yrs since I went into chemical menopause. Had to have ovaries removed due to genetic test showing a mutation known for this type of cancer. It took my mom and I needed to be sure it didn’t take me. It slowed aging and reversed many other side effects. I’m grateful something positive had come out of the ordeal.
