Still looks better then this version, I got a feeling this is going to be to random Hollywood and cliche and no substance as usual ………..the original’s success was great characters and no goofy plots just a solid movie with scares that weren’t over done , this looks a bit goofy in spots ?

This was the first novel I'd ever read. 1978 and I was only 10 years old. Found the book in a K-Mart and while my mom was doing her boring-ass shopping I read the prologue and was hooked. I asked my mom if she could buy it for me and that was that. It was during the summer so no school and I stayed awake all night with a crucifix around my neck and kept the curtains closed for months after. Vampires have never been as frightening as they were in King's novel. No movie ever came close.

The book is one of my favorite books of all time, and the original mini-series was so well done that it still stands today as one of the best contemporary vampire stories. I didn't care for the 2004 version on first viewing, but I've come to appreciate that one over time. I own both versions and watch them every season. Can't wait to see this version.

My favorite King novel…scary, funny, great characters, interesting subplots, and perfectly established mood/tone and atmosphere,..his short story “One For the Road” in the Skeleton Crew anthology is basically a sequel to it, which reveals what the Lot is experiencing after the vampire plague takes over the town….excellent short story and epilogue to the novel….FYI, if you loved the atmosphere and suspense of Salem’s Lot, check it the F Paul Wilson horror/sci-fi/historical fiction novel, The Keep…it was made into a horrible film in the early 80s, but the novel ranks up there with I Am Legend and Salem’s Lot as the best vampire novels of modern fiction, although the vampire premise is mote supernatural in scope…it’s basically a book about a regimen of Nazis occulting an ancient Keep/castle in the Romanian mountains, during WW2, and using it as a base to begin exterminating the Romanian Jews and Gypsies in the region, but their plans are interrupted by the presence of an ancient evil that occupies the castle (imprisoned?), and begins picking off the Nazi soldiers one by one, leading an anti-Nazi German commander to employ an elderly Jewish man and his young adult daughter to figure out what is murdering his men, and why…all while a third figure is traveling to the Keep to finish what he started long ago, and do battle with the malevolent force inside the Keep….its an engrossing book, and easy read that, along with Salem’s Lot, is my favorite pure horror novel….and if you like The Keep, check out Wilson’s other novels, The Tomb, Black Wind (another WW2 historical fiction setting about the Japanese attempting to use a mystical power to destroy the US before we can drop the atom bomb and end the war, and all of the character dramas that feed the narrative)….he also has a series of horror books called the Repairman Jack series, about a guy who fixes things for people facing supernatural threats….

@@davidsenick9664 Agreed, certainly my favourite King novel and years ago I remember The Keep and as I was reading it Salem's Lot was in the back of my mind. I also remember watching the movie version of The Keep when it was first released (my late father was a big fan of the novel so he let me watch it) and.....yeah, let's not go there🤣 I haven't read the Repairman Jack series except the last one(?), Nightworld which was, quite frankly, outstanding.

I'm with you on that. That book was made for a TV series, not just a movie, even a lengthy one. The book has too many characters, too many details, and too many important and/or interesting plotlines to be compressed into only one movie. I mean, [SPOILER ALERT] who does not want to see Reggie Sawyer catching his wife, Bonnie Sawyer, and Corey Bryant in the act, and him making Corey brown his pants or something that was once Corey coming back for Bonnie and Reggie Sawyer? Who does not want to see a baby vampire finally making its parents happy together? Who wouldn't love to see more of Tom and Marjorie Glick's couple dynamic, or Bill and Ann Norton's, or that darkly beautiful moment between Eva Miller and Craig Weasel in her boarding house? Who does not want to see a naked Glynis Mayberry paying a visit to her old-time friend Mabel Werts? Or Barlow busting into the Petrie's residence uninvited?

True nostalgia can do that however. It is way better to fit in plot, characterization, and a better overall flow of a story in a series rather than a movie. That is the concern I am seeing most. The book is one of favorites by King

Spoilers: Everyone saying how amazing the 70’s movie is needs to take off the nostalgia goggles and watch it again. I hadn’t seen it in over 20 years so I rewatched it few nights ago. It’s okay, but not great. I remember it scaring the hell out of me when I was a kid, but It left out too many important scenes from the book and added a ton of filler. I thought the 2004 TNT version was better, but it also left out other scenes from the book while adding more filler. I did like how it explored the nature of evil and the attraction of evil to evil. I’m rereading the book again for the first time in 30 years, so I’m catching a lot of things I missed when I first watched the 70’s and 04 movies. This new one looks to change a ton of stuff, but I’m not complaining. It looks like Susan is with Ben and Cody in the morgue when Margarie wakes up, and again in the Marsten house with the rest of the crew. I always thought her decision to go into the house alone was one of King’s worst writing decisions. It just didn’t make sense with what we had seen from the character so far. She was skeptical, but she was also smart, or appeared to be, and wouldn’t walk into a house with two deranged killers (which she thought Straker and Barlow to be) with Mark as her backup. Her becoming a vampire at that point in the story just felt forced to me, and hopefully this new movie handles it differently. I just hope the movie doesn’t suck. This is one of my favorite stories. King said the movies is great, so hopefully he’s not just blowing smoke up our asses.

There is a short story by Stephen King called Jerusalem's Lot (published along with other stories in 1978), and from this story he wrote the book Salem's Lot that inspires the 1979 miniseries and the current movie. The curious thing is that the story was published after the book.

Watching this reminded me so much of "From".....and watching "From" was so Stephen King-esque I thought it was one of his book adaptations. I'd forgotten about Salem's Lot but there are some strong similarities. I wonder if the mystery of "From" is also a nod to Salem's Lot, or some "cousin" type link. Looking forward to S3 "From" and now Salem's Lot. It's uncanny how familiar they are to one another.

Looks like they are going to deliver a worthy cinema experience unlike anything we've seen before in regards to Salem's Lot. Very, very excited to watch this!!! Salem's Lot is my favorite vampire film and Nosferatu's remake is looking incredible as well!!! Glad to see traditional vampire movies getting the proper remakes.

If yall liked this movie than you would love the show called, The Midnight Mass.” It’s very similar to Salems lot. I think it also kinda ties into each other!

I went into this with low expectations being a huge fan of the book and the 1979 version (truth be told I also enjoyed the 2004 version)...but I'm happy to report that THIS version? Is about as perfect as a "distilled" Theatrical version can be. The visuals, and atmosphere? Stunning. The use of the plum red coloring mixed with the dark mint green gives this version an element of creepiness that is a cut above anything else I've seen. The acting is solid all the way around (Mackenzie Leigh is a Stand-out), and the FX are outstanding. Count Barlow? Terrifying. This director is one to watch for sure. 8 out of 10 Stars.

Noticed that as well. Glad though. No need to spoil Barlow here. My only hope is that they stay somewhat true to his look from back then. Excited for this one!

@@jccnj2354I want a mix. In the dark tower series the master vampires are monstrous in their original form. Once they drink their appearance looks more human. Barlow in the book was different from the original Movie.

I remember the Original with David Soul/ Tobey Hoper. Robe Lowe's take was mild. Wasn't feeling it. Rutger was a great thought.

Not to be outdone, Universal Pictures is launching a spooky vampire flick soon... a remake of the classic, "Nosferatu." I'm wondering how it will compare with not only this retelling of "Salem's Lot," but Universal's earlier offering, "Last Voyage of the Demeter"...

There's another short sequel to the story called "One for the Road" by King. It's in the book, Night Shift. Great story to read.

The original mini series is superb nothing can equal to it. Its still the best salems lot. And the book of course is number one book for me. Will hope just a little inch can this new version can make me scared a little.

I love the book, it's my favorite King novel, which has been described as "Dracula" meets "Peyton Place." I didn't care for either of the two previous adaptations, but I hope this one does the book at least some justice. The casting appears to be good.

The original was, and always the best. As a 2 part mini series, it was able to more or less include everything. You can't tell this story in an under 2 hours movie. If they had to remake it, they should have made 2 movies. If you are lucky enough to get a copy of the original, watch that. If not buy the book. I'm a huge fan of Stephen King, and this was his very best. I was in my late twenties when I first read it , and it scared the hell out of me, but I couldn't put it down

I fondly recall the original scaring the crap out of me in the 1970s. Nice reboot - some tweaks, some call-backs to the original, pleasantly surprised at some new twists. This is what a Halloween movie should be: fun and scary. Ignore the reviewers and watch.

Don't know why Hollywood keeps making remakes of films that were already great...Why don't they remake films that were bad and make them better?.... No imagination....'70's were the golden age of movies...now we just get superhero movies...
