I went to his funeral in 1964 at A.R Leake Funeral on the South Side of Chicago, l was a little girl , l saw the likes of Sammy Davis jr, mahalia Jackson she singed at his funeral Peter Lorre, and some more Hollywood stars just can’t remember their names, it was so crowded that cottage grove was closed to all traffic and it was cold that day of his funeral. I stood on top of someone’s car in order to see. In my house l was not allowed to listen to that secular music. So l would go over to some classmates house or listen outside a “ bar or Saloon” to listen to that kind of music.😊😊

Yeah. He was really selfish and lowdown when it came to women. He told on himself when he did that song called "I wish he didn't trust me so much." Take a listen to it if you haven't heard it before. I was starting to think that Sam's daughter was dirty as well being thar she is rumored to have been caught sleeping with Bobby while Bobby was married to her mother. But I kind of can't blame her because supposedly, Sam's daughter had a thing going on with Bobby BEFORE he and her mother married. It seems like Linda got back at both of them because she turned around and married Bobby's brother Cecil. Their story was just some real messy soap opera type stuff.

Well, my mother believe it or not turned me on to Sam Cooke's music in 1973. I have been a fan of this man longer then he lived on earth and his music is still great to this day. I read a biography about his life ," Dream Boogie, The Triumph Of Sam Cooke. He had a tragic life, he was almost killed in an automobile accident in 1952, and he had a baby son drown in a backyard pool in 1963. He was talented and handsome and grew up in the church and sang gospel music, but wanted to crossover and sing pop music. People warned him if he did it and turned his back on the church, it would cause a great calamity in his life. He wanted to own his own recording company ,and keep the money in his own pocket as well as help other up and coming black artists. He was so handsome and had several children out of wedlock and had women waiting to enter his bed at anytime. It was unfortunate, that he picked up Elisa Boyer, the Eurasian hooker at a nightclub. People said she noticed Sam Cooke's role of money and willingly left the club with him. He took her to a hotel in Los Angeles, and while he was undressed, the tramp pulled an old hooker's trick. She ran out the room with his pants containing his wallet. Sam Cooke was enraged and ran after her. The night manager confronted an an angry Sam Cooke. He banged on her door and accused the manager of hiding the woman. He barged in and fought with her. She shot him several times, and hit him with a stick and he died in a cheap hotel. The hooker called the cops and tried to play innocent and said she was afraid of being " raped". This was bs, because I believe the manager and the hooker worked together as they rolled Sam Cooke. Sam was a city kid and knew he was being " rolled" and tried to get his money back. The jury acquitted these two lowlifes, and Sam Cooke died a premature death, but his music lives on.

You wrote a whole book here and it didn't happen nothing like you stated, you must be young, I live here in L.A. and I'm 69 years old,and can tell you that we here in Los Angeles know it didn't happen like that, we went to People's funeral home and viewed his body, he was beat and then shot to death,his neck and fingers were broke,this was bigger than a 2 bit ho and a motel manager,when that manager was interview in the news press conference,she was terrified and you can tell she was force to tell that lie.
@shawnmalone9711
@shawnmalone9711 Жыл бұрын
@@thecounselorace621 Hmmmm... You sound like my mother. She saw Sam Cooke's body at the funeral in Los Angeles and said the same thing.. She said someone had to set up Sam Cooke to be murdered, because there was no way, those two women could have done so much bodily damage to him. My mother said Sam Cooke's body looked like he was beaten up in a fight. Ok. Let's say there was a confederate in the room, the tramp grabbed Sam Cookes clothes and tried to flee. There could have been one or two guys waiting and jumped Sam Cooke and beat him to death . He was in a seedy part of town and might have been setup. They could have killed him in an attempted robbery. I wonder did Sam Cooke tell anyone at the club that he was taking the tramp to the Hacienda Hotel? Did he tell Allen Klein? ( the person who became the owner of all the songs Sam Cooke wrote? Sam Cooke's family did not get any royalties from his estate). Sam Cooke was scammed out of his money like a lot of artists. The recording industry had a lot of lawyers to find loopholes to steal money from singers, even if they wrote their own music. Sam Cooke was making money for SAR , and why would Klein want him murdered when Sam Cooke was one of the best singer song writers around. Sam Cooke was still a major recording artist and a lot of people looked up to him from James Brown, Jackie Wilson, the Beatles and other British invasion stars, the Motown stars and other black singers. Sam Cooke still had one of the biggest careers, in the music scene. Why would Bobby Womack want to have Sam Cooke killed? Sam Cooke discovered the Womacks, and the brothers were recording under Sam Cooke's music label. Bobby Womack looked up to Sam Cooke like a little brother, and I'm sure Sam Cooke hooked Bobby Womack up with women far hotter than Barbara Cooke.
@shawnmalone9711
@shawnmalone9711 Жыл бұрын
@@thecounselorace621 If Barbara Cooke had Sam Cooke murdered, she didn't profit from it. The Cookes didn't receive any royalties from Sam Cooke's estate, and she sold the house and other stuff bought by Sam Cooke. In the book" Dream Boogie, the Triumph Of Sam Cooke", when Bobby Womack went to console Barbara about Sam Cooke's death, there was another man with Barbara. Bobby Womack said the man was wearing clothes owned by Sam. Bobby Womack was angry and forced the man to take off Sam Cooke's clothes and take off a ring that Sam owned. The guy complied with Bobby's orders and left. Barbara became excited by Bobby Womack's macho attitude and became attracted to him. I wonder if the guy sleeping with Barbara could have done something to Sam Cooke. After all the guy was wearing Sam Cooke's clothes , ring and sleeping with Barbara . Did he know Sam Cooke was dead? The guy faded from history as he left the house. Bobby Womack ended up with Sam Cooke's wife, but was a pedophile who slept with Sam Cooke's daughter. Barbara pulled a gun on him and forced him to leave. Bobby lost Sam Cooke's daughter to his brother Cecil , and so the tragic saga of the death of Sam Cooke ends. The only one who profited from his death was Alan Klein. Sam Cooke's music is still making money for the corporation to this day.

@shawnmalone9711 you answered your own question. Sam cooke was setup by Allen Klein for his publishing. Sam caught up to Klein shady deals and was going to meet up with him the follow Monday but he never made it to Monday. This was the 60s bro. It's pretty simple. Sam was a good looking black man that had money and his own publishing..they didn't want that. Plus he was stubborn and didn't take shit they didn't like that. So they set him up. Had him sign over his rights (hence the mangled hands) then killed him. The gun the motel manager owned didn't even match the bullet that killed sam. Also the angle from where she shot him doesn't even make sense to where he got shot.. he got shot under the armpit..which is mob style. Sam was threatened by the mob multiple times btw
@AS-wj1du
@AS-wj1du 8 ай бұрын
@@dpowell468you're right that Klein was the one who profited from Sam's death. His wife and family got nothing. His and Barbara's relationship was apparently loveless and he married her for his daughter Linda's sake but kept cheating as did she apparently including with Bobby. But if Bobby made another man take off Sam's clothes but seemed to have ended up doing the same, that's shady. His friends did say he was badly beaten so Klein probably did set him up and the mangled hands was forcing him to sign his rights then take his life. Apparently not only was he set up, he wasn't done in by those two women but by Klein's goons. They forced or bribed the women into taking the blame. The mafia controlled the industry including boxers so artists had no rights. They worked hard for the record producers to reap the money. They didn't like Sam making money nor teaching others to. The industry is still shady and no idea why artists choose to work in that demonic environment

Sam was setting himself up to be the Berry Gordy of the west coast and possibly beyond. Did you see the list of artist Sam had on his label? Johnnie Taylor, The Womack brothers, Mel Carter, Billy Preston, the Soul Stirrers, and more maybe later Lou Rawls. Sam was smart, could write hits at the drop of a hat, recognized talent. He was going to be able to pull talent from the white record owners and mob controlled companies. Sam was a BIG threat. I can see Sam doing a Soul Train program, movies and just being unlimited. No, they had to get rid of this brilliant man.

Those record companies disgust me. Prince and Michael Jackson revealed how they kill their artists. Look at Chris Blackwell and Bob Marley. Sam Cooke's manager stole his royalties, probably had a hand in his death and many more. Womack married Sam's wife, slept with his daughter, wore his clothes, drove his car, named his son Vincent like Sam's son. Disturbing 🤮

Loved Sam although he could be my grandad. His friends said he was a womaniser though and that could have led to his death, either by being with a lady of the night or the record company set him up because they like to destroy their artists for money. He wanted to own his own studio. His family don't get his royalties, the record manager's family does. His protege Bobby womack married his widow and then slept with his daughter 🤮 who then married his brother 🤮 again
