My great grandmother's house was broken into twice before she passed away this last summer. She was much too old to open her curtains, but I don't think that would have deterred thieves. We put up motion lights and door alarms. She never had another problem.

My problem with these kind of inventions is that crime isn't a technological issue, it's a societal one. There won't be any invention that comes along and solves crime, and the more people that have things like this the less effective they become. The way to solve crime is to build a better society where people have less reason to do crimes and have more reason to care about others. It's that simple and the more we lock ourselves behind walls of locks and alarms and security devices the more people become isolated. She mentions "how people live today maybe a lot of them don't know their neighbours", well maybe they should go and meet their neighbours. Things like this only give people more of an excuse to not get to know the people around them which is ultimately going to increase their risk of being a target of crimes like theft or burglary.

The way the curtains open, such a slow, creeking pace, makes it seem so antiquated.
