If you thought the DUPs actions lately were anything new, David Ervine summed them up well…They are self serving and power hungry, that’s why they licked the boot of Boris Johnson. Unionism deserves better. David Ervine resented how working class unionism/loyalism was used, and generally how vested interests on both sides propagated mistrust to their own end. Northern Ireland not working suits some people very nicely.

@@allybrown828 I’m English and believe in the union in relation to Scotland and Wales but see N Ireland as different. I feel it would be better long term for Ireland and N Ireland to be one. The great majority in N I don’t seem to believe the bs that we used to hear from Paisley and co about papists etc and instead want no return to the troubles. Over here we don’t hear much about NI since the end of the troubles and I honestly think Parliament doesn’t care about NI and will be glad when it’s part of Ireland. They see it as inevitable; aren't rushing towards it, but also don't lose their minds over the very thought of it, as they're sensible, well-rounded people. They'll just keep going, doing everything that they've always done, and if History changes around them, they'll just get on with it.

However my brother and sisters had protestant partners which back in the day was frowned upon!We were never "allowed" to be bigots or taught hatred & from personal experience we always treated protestants with the utmost respect (as we did every1). i find it refreshing to know that decent protestant ppl are realists accepting that a majority may wish one day to be a part of a united ireland?Plus when meeting fellow citizens from ni abroad theyve always been very pleasant.I see the problem as indoctrination of old hatred& what some may perceive as "theirs" that their ancestors fought & died for?For example i married a protestant English girl & there was a wee bit of scepticism on both sides but never a bad word & as for our Wedding it was a great day with no animousity what so ever(hell some of my friends had never met an English person NOT in uniform.So there is definitely hope that one day the ppl can live side by side in harmony on the island of Ireland with ALL its diversity. @@vercoda9997

And because she was s friendly sort of person they decided to go. There they were the two qub punks sitting on the paisley's couch. When in walks sir Ian paisley. Henry Mcdonald said he was a lot smaller then he looked on TV. And they went into the kitchen where baroness paisley made them all tea. My solution is to redraw the border to take more Nationalists into the Republic and let the "wee North" do whatever it wants after that. I have even come up with a name for this little statelet -"The Orange Reservation." (My apologies to the American Indians !) . The Loyalists can then beat their Lambeg Drums ,wear their silly hats and sashes,burn their grotesquely sized bonfires and march in remembrance of King Billy at the Boyne Water,till hell freezes over! The weird thing about the DUP is that their stance makes it seem to ordinary Brits (if they think about it at all) that there is in fact one place for them to go: into a united Ireland.
@dwansbo
@dwansbo 5 ай бұрын
The DUP are mistaken in their interpretation, when they refer to the Conservative and Unionist Party. The term was used long before the 1801 Act of Union which refers to Northern Ireland. The Unionist part of the title relates to the Union between England and Scotland. The majority in Britain have no great interest in Northern Irelands place in the United Kingdom. Current events in NI shows an overwhelming majority in favour of self determination, the people of NI being ruled by and for the people of NI and that means devolved government by a Stormont Assembly. Northern Irelands place in the UK has been defined by Brexit. The DUP should accept that it is an integral part of the Island of Ireland, it cannot be separated by geography, politics religion or ethnicity. The people of Ireland benefit from EU membership, NI has the fortune to be part of that. The EU is not a colonial power imposing its rules by force or invasion. That role belonged to the British Empire, those days are gone.

Under the gfa,the irish government has the right to be involved at a greater level. The cheer that went up has come from the steve baker cheerleaders .if another election was called,the dup would be wiped out. The state of the roads in n.i has left everyone housebound and crippled emergency services. Anger and deep resentment about the dup refusal to share power on unjustifiable grounds is at its highest

Dear Mr Wilson, A reunited Ireland is an inevitability at this stage, and nobody has done more to ensure this than the DUP. As a fellow Irishman, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can only assume that you're surreptitiously working for our side. It's the only possible reason. Is Gerry still sending you a weekly thank you card? Just a few things to help you with the transition: 1. It's Derry. Any attempt to call it L*****derry will result in it being changed to Dublinderry. 2. The 26th of December is St. Stephen's day. That's only a minor thing, so we won't get bogged down. 3. Eircodes. They're amazing. Just enter it into the sat nav, and you're there. No need for a house number. 4. You'll soon get used to the metric system. It makes much more sense than what Britain lumped you with. The imperial system looks like number magnets being thrown at a fridge. 5. Feel free to have your little Orange Pride parades. We'll reserve spaces in Tallaght, Mayfield, Moyross and Ballybeg. Just remember that a fast moving target is harder to hit. 6. Evolution. It's a thing. Read more than one book. 7. You already get called Paddy in Britain, so no change there. 8. Free sTayto are superior. You'll love them. 9. Vauxhalls will now be Opels. Makes no difference, now that they're all French. 10. Gay people are neither evil nor trying to get you. 11. Get learning your new national anthem. The Fields of Athenry is optional. Any questions, just ask. Slàn Leo Varadkar Your future Taoiseach

The British government especially a Conservative government will never allow the Irish government to have a bigger say in NI, they should be threatening the DUP with this tactic but they won’t because it would undermine the Union and NI’s place in that union, joint authority will never happen. Maybe a border poll is needed or a date set for one in the next 5 years.
