I'm a handy guy but have never worked on a dryer before. When my wife came asking for her hero because the dryer would power up but not start, I dug in. With the help of your videos I was able to disassemble the dryer far enough to determine that the belt had just come off the tensioner and pulley. I easily put it back on and the dryer is back to working great. Thank you for making me look so smart. :)

Our circuit board was different with no obvious ground wire so we were unable to check that portion. Checking the motor directly we found that the resistance was 3.6 ohm. That should have been 1.8 for the starter coil. Turns out, our centrifugal switch was stuck in the 'on' position, allowing the motor to spin, but not get started on it's own. Would never have figured that all out without your video. Thanks so much for saving us hundreds of dollars in repair.

Great video. I've never really done any troubleshooting on appliances, but this made it super easy and gave me the confidence to open up the dryer and see what's going on. I have a newer model than the one in the video, but as soon as I removed the top cover I could see the belt was broken. $20 part that I can replace myself compared to a $150 service call (plus parts). THANKS!

All of you videos are great Bill. FYI, I picked up a set of bed of nails alligator clips through ATS ($5 a pair) I connect them to my meter leads in tight spots, or rather than removing switches to test continuity, in circuit testing, automotive shorts (with a homemade long test lead) etc. They came on my tone sender for Data/Telephony job. Invaluable when there are hundreds of wires and I just need to identify one or two pair!

Thank you so much, u gust saved us from throwing away a 6 yr old dryer. My husband used your video as a guide and was able to figure out we had a bad thermal sensor on the blower due to me not cleaning the lint out enough. Thank you so much! I went through your full diagnostic, realized it was the thermal cutoff fuse, follow your other video on how to disassemble everything and put it back together , got a new one but by that time tested the old fuse again and it worked, some bit confused, but I guess testing everything and un plugging everything and replugging everything reset whatever was the problem. Hey Bill, I've spent all day watching this video (great by the way) and trouble shooting as my Dyer will not start. The Control Board test (test 1) didn't work, however the belt switch, motor, and thermal cut off all are fine. Could it be the control board? G
@tomselling29527 жыл бұрын
Great video. Thank you. Led me right to the problem which was the thermal cutoff. Hint: IMHO, it's more likely that the thermal cutoff went bad than the "broken belt switch". The location of the thermal cutoff, in the front of the dryer, means it can be accessed without removing the drum. Test it first. If it's bad you saved yourself some work pulling the drum and dealing with the belt. Also, I'm not sure what "OL" stands for on the Milwaukee Volt Ohm meter but it means there is infinite resistance - the same as holding the two leads in the air 12" apart. A great video series. Thanks again.
@fredfunkstone7 жыл бұрын
"OL" is open leads, meaning no continuity in the thermal cutoff

Wonderful video. I do not have this exact model, but I went through these tests with the exception of the first test of the overall resistance since the board is different. When I tested the motor I got 0 resistance across the windings, does this mean the motor has failed?

Great video Bill! You explain things very well, you should be an instructor. I'm searching for an answer to my dryer issue. Its a samsung too. It will start up but stops turning after 5-10 seconds. Sometimes it will start moving again but keeps stopping. Most times I need to turn it off to get it to start moving again but never stays running now. Happened all at once, not a progressive issue. Any ideas? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks EDIT>>>Just disassembled it, there's a faint smell coming from the control board and it clicks off and on when it starts and stops, is that normal? I sure hope you read this and have some insight on this. The part is $146 and can't really spare that going blindly into this. Any help is huuugely appreciated!! SECOND EDIT>>> After leaving it on for abit I noticed the time ticked down to 1 min in less then 5 mins, it was set on 40 mins. I'm thinking the control board takes care of time too? Looks like a safe bet to my untrained eye anyhow. Can you confirm time is controlled by the control board or is that in the display? Thanks again, sorry for being a pain

Thank you so much for your video. I ran diagnostics on my dryer and found that the motor pulley is fried. I’m wondering if the motor is also bad. Before I found the fried motor pulley- the dryer turned on, and everything looked normal, but when I tried to start the cycle, all I heard was a one click (which is normal when a cycle starts) and nothing else happened. could that just be the motor pulley that is fried, or is it more likely the entire motor?

We've had a Samsung washer and dryer for a while now. First, the dryer heating element failed. Next, the dryer started rumbling pretty badly and I thought the rollers had worn out. After disassembling the dryer I discovered the rollers were fine but the drum had cracked around its circumference where it contacted the rollers (very thin aluminum). Replaced the rollers anyway, and ordered a replacement drum which I installed myself. Not sure if I'll stick with Samsung going forward when it comes time. Washer bearings also failed. Culprit was a buildup of goop from liquid detergent, so we've cut the amount of detergent we use in half to avoid this problem.
