Samyang/Rokinon 45mm f1.8 Review - What a Gem!

Great content ! This lens is my favorite. My only complain is that I can't find a camera as light as the A6000 in the full-frame line-up, that would fit with the extremely lightweight Samyang 45mm. The A7C is quite heavy; I'd dream about a full-frame entry level A6000 (same weight, similar architecture as the defunct RX1). I've tried the combo A6400 + Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN. It's great but with an heavy lens, this time, same perspective (45mm), but a tad more cold color rendition to my taste.

I still shoot with the a600 some times and it is refreshing how light it is. But the tech is really starting to show it's age. I also have an a7c on the way because I want a lighter FF camera and like you said, RX1 is also pretty old at this point. Hopefully the a7c will be good enough for now!

love the lens but it looks a little unprofessional due to its size and i also feel like i'm going to break it. very....uh... plastic i guess. but for continuous auto-focus in video mode on an a7iv, this lens was one of the best i've ever used opened up to 1.8

Did you update the firmware using the Lens Station device? I wonder if your AF performance would have improved with the most recent firmware.

I dismissed my Sigma 56f1.4 and Sony Zeiss 50f1.8 for this gem. Has a very nice bokeh an perfectly works with both sensor sizes.

Yes! I highly recommend Sony APSC users who have the a6000 series invest in full frame e-mount lenses if they can because once if they want to upgrade to full frame down the line, they don't need to buy a bunch of new lenses and can continue to use their current gear!

I like my 40mm pancake on my FF Canon 6D for street. When I'm using my a6500/a6000 I usually have my Sigma 30mm f1.8 and Sigma 19mm f2.8 on my kits for street.

I used the a7riv in this video but it works really well on the a6000 as well. I am currently working on a video about it.

@@sottosopra4769 I got the 1.8. Man, it was soooo good! I sold the camera and lens a while back and stopped doing photography altogether. There are moments where I wish I didnt sell them! The 1.8 was amazing and produced high quality pics.

For what it does. It seems pretty legit. And I don’t mind some of the flaws that you have mentioned. And I say that because by looking at some of the photos you did. And that you said were somewhat misfocused. They honestly still looked great. If anything I’ll just learn to work around it. Thanks for the review. I’m getting mine in a few days.
