Afridi debuted in international cricket in September/October 1996 and played that century knock off 37 balls. But way before that Jayasuriya held the record for the fastest 100 (off 48 balls) and fastest 50 (off 17 balls). So, it's clear who was the first to introduce the explosive T/20 style of batting!

But once Afridi made his bow in both ODI and test match cricket he played some of the most explosive innings ever seen. I still recall Afridi’s ODI innings against Sri Lanka, India and New Zealand. If Jayasuriya invented T20 then Afridi invented test match Bazball. I still recall his brutal test match knocks against India in Lahore and Faisalabad 2005-06. The same against England and New Zealand.

it was quadrangular series with equally stronger teams NZ, IND, SL and PAK. India was on 3rd place and didn't able to qualify for best of 3 finals which SL won by 2-0 from PAK. Amazing memory, Anwar's 194 was part of this series.

If it is Vs Ind, surely I felt that heat, he is a nightmare for our Ind,I used to curse him and Anwar of Pak if it is batting Vs Ind. Esp Jayasuriya knocked 8*100s in ODIs Vs Ind alone. Thanks to Sachin he made 8*100s Vs SL and Sourav also didn't spare SL,having atleast 4*100s on SL. I am not happy with Atapatttu making 118(153) and a 102* Vs Ind as it is balanced by Dravid 2*100s on SL, but Jayawardene has a128 and another 100 on us for which VVS didn't get much ODIs to prove his batting prowess of hitting 100s Vs SL as he did such humiliation to A Strong Aus by smashing 4*100s on them, had a 107(104) Vs Pak and I hope once VVS was out for 98 or 99 stumpout Vs SriLanka and WestIndies also.

Can't say. The cricket game itself has all sorts of format in it. Even a Test match resulted T20s if more score is chased on last day, last innings. Can't recall specifically BEFORE the advent of T20s, but since 1880s the Tests are being played. I heard of our own Indian cricketer Sixer Naidu (C K Naidu) who used to smash the bowlers like anything. I can't agree to a foreign player starting this style of game in specific. I found as I observed that players like Sachin, Jayasuriya in 1990s maybe having a mentality and understand I that their wicket is highly crucial, so as long as they stay at crease they should ensure quickflow of runs. This above match we see 55(40) by Jayasuriya Vs Pak, we have Sachin 41(26) Vs Pak in same era. But I loved the way Jayasuriya took revenge on Pak by slaughtering them with 135(48) as Afridi initially hit a 101(36) Vs SL.
