Headed out tomorrow after work. Hopefully the rain isn't too bad. Curious as to how long leader you use on spinners? Thanks for the feedback best channel I appreciate it man
@AnglingAddictsPNW5 жыл бұрын
Dan M - hey dan, my leader length has gotten a little longer these days since I like to tie my leader directly to my braid.... 4ft is usually what I have left after tying the uni to uni knot. I was fishing a 15lb fluorocarbon in this vid, but just picked up some 20lb Seaguar fluorocarbon. Good luck today, sounds like the rain is supposed to be in later. The water is still pretty clear, a little rain always helps :) Thanks for the feedback, it’s much appreciated

I agree spinners are very effective I was down on the Wilson last fall in a spot that had plenty of fish rolling but nobody getting any fish so I tied on a number 6 blue Fox cast it out. Made 3 cranks of the real and fish on, some people hate spinners but sometimes it's a matter of fish hooked or going home skunked. As always thanks for sharing

Kevin Thomas - I think it’s funny that some people hate spinners. I’ve done the same thing and walked away with my limit for the day. It makes no sense to cut out a technique that catches fish too. Their loss 🤷♂️ Thanks for the feedback, and for watching!

@AnglingAddictsPNW5 жыл бұрын
jeffh699 - I’ve tried it from the bank and boat and never had a thing. Most of the time I just pass it up, considering I never see anything pulled from there. I threw a bobber and jig first but didn’t like the way the current flows in that area for it. I think it’s hard to have a proper float most of the time. Throwing those lures, I knew I could get to the bottom and work around those submerged boulders. The fish was definitely a surprise but I was fishing with a lot of confidence. Getting an early hookup just made my day!
@jaaron28344 жыл бұрын
That’s a nice casting spot there.... although I must agree about landing a fish in rocky areas.... the English used a gaff on a long pole... a small gaff hook.... I know we don’t gaff salmon... but they did... Nice action ..!
@AnglingAddictsPNW4 жыл бұрын
J Aaron - it is an interesting area to fish for sure. It’s a great pool but the boulders under the water can eat hardware all day long. It has its times though. Haha there’s been a few times now where a gaff would have be handy to have

Nice fish, Nick. What did you see in that run that caused you to go back to the car and pick up the rod?
@AnglingAddictsPNW5 жыл бұрын
Tom Eiland - Thank You Tom! It was just the way that this deeper pool was in between shallow and quick moving water above and below. Then there’s the distance from here to the next deeper pool above and below, which made me think there had to be fish in there from the first little push of springers. The current is weird due to the boulders and just the whole setup of that area, but glancing at it from a higher vantage point. I was able to pinpoint where I thought the best area was that could have some fish holding. It still had a nice flow feeding from where the channel opens into the pool, behind boulders, and in what I’m guessing was the deepest area. I don’t know if that answers your question lol

Been a long time since I had a salmon on my line. Good motivation. Where do you think is the best place to target them at this point? Oxbow? Dabney area?
@AnglingAddictsPNW5 жыл бұрын
MaximumMotionPictures - that’s what it’s all about, if these vids can motivate someone to get back out and keep trying, then I will take it as a win. You never know which cast is going to be the one. As for location, I was just talking with a group of fishermen today about that topic. We basically came up with..... everywhere and in small numbers. A lot of the time the summer run steelhead just head straight for the hatcheries while the chinook enter the system with a lot of time on their hands before needing to get to business, so they can be anywhere. Bottom line. It doesn’t look like any one place would be “better” than the next for summers or springers. Those that have been caught are spread out over locations high and low in the system. It’s anyone’s guess at this point. It’s just slow everywhere right now.

Angling Addicts PNW All due respect, but I looked at the regulations and I didn’t see an exception for the Sandy River
@AnglingAddictsPNW4 жыл бұрын
Marianito San - look on the ODFW webpage and find the Columbia River Zone Description, the Sandy River amongst other rivers are excluded from the Columbia zone. They don’t make info easy for us to find... and when you think you’ve figured it out, they go and change the regs. The Sandy is open year round and the regs self only change, still have to look though
@davidoutdoorchannel4 жыл бұрын
What are the regulations? Can I use treble hook and barbed? Or barbless and single hooks?

I would imagine all the rivers in the area have winter steelhead in them now. I'm sure that big rain we had over the last week brought in some fish, so the Coos, Southfork, Millicoma & Coquille. I would just get out and find some bank access, move around from high to low or low to high on any of those rivers until you start to see some action. That whole area is good winter steelhead fishing. I really need to make a road trip over there for a few days. It's been a while. Good luck, let me know how it goes

I may be able to do that at some point. We all gotta get out there and beat feet and explore new territory. Where there was fish one day, could be an empty whole the next. You never know
