I feel that a movie about fantasy characters living in the modern day could work but as a war movie. Like imagine magic being a thing and intertwined with modern weaponry and all the different races. Unfortunately both Bright and Onward just take a modern US city setting and just replace the people with fantasy monsters but with none of the cool medieval world building to make each race stand out which just makes it boring.

I think when someone referred to Lion King as hypocritical, they were saying that when Simba goes back to confront his past, he's almost killed for it. Only when he realizes he's innocent at the last second then the rest of his pride hear him out and the world shifts in his favor. He didn't really confront or learn from his past, because his past kinda didn't exist from his perspective. I don't really agree with that mindset, I love that movie, but I've heard it a lot.

9:19 Disney did not hype that up, you should be criticising the press (I'm guessing you are but it's annoying that people assume that Disney hyped this up beforehand). Also, that line was improvised by the voice actress, so you can't act like it was thrown in there by a writer or a studio who wanted to get representation points.
@girlykyuu11854 жыл бұрын
oh yeah they didn't pay off a couple of publishers and don't own ABC right? fuck off.
@aliveslice4 жыл бұрын
I would buy the part that it was improvised, but it's not like this tiny tiny "gay representation" scenes haven't been made (and edited for some countries) a few times prior.
@rsfilmdiscussionchannel41684 жыл бұрын
@@aliveslice I agree that it's just as weak as Disney's other attempts. I wish they would stop bullshitting around and just give a wide release to a movie where the main character is openly homosexual. Screw the countries that wouldn't approve, just don't release them there. Animated TV shows have honestly been doing gay representation pretty fantastically in the past decade, so I wish that they could replicate that in movies. The best example is probably Paranorman, because whilst the reveal is not until the end of the movie and just in a line of dialogue, not only is it with a major character but it's also vitaly important (because the sister was trying to win him over and this reveal made it clear that he probably isn't going to date her anytime soon, if at all).
@aliveslice4 жыл бұрын
@@rsfilmdiscussionchannel4168 I don't know anything about the show you mention nor am I entirely sure if you're being sarcastic or not. I agree that these additions feel disingenuous. If they did a main gay character story that feels as forced as those gay extras that would be even worse. And homophobic countries wouldn't lose anything by not seeing something they don't wanna see. The point is, Disney is more about business than being "inspiring", woke or whatever, and it shows. So _maybe_ this particular line wad improvised, but it's not the only example of their throwaway representation. But it's good to set the record straight.
