Trying out some different finishes. I decided to give this one a satin torch finish in a dark bronze. I went with a bead blast finish prior to torching, and then, bead blasted again to make the colors and fading more subtle. I think it turned out great! The video and pics do NOT do this justice. It has a very subtle pearlescent gleam to it with blues and purples that the camera just doesn't pick up. Also has a nice fade from dark bronze to gold, and light silver up to the hosel.

For this finish I use a 240 grit glass bead. And I plan to do a classic style oil can finish in the near future. Similar process, but I will look into the hot oxide!. So far I've only done cold bluing/oxide finishes.

After heating is it cooled at room temperature? And does the heating affect the hit or performance of the putter at all?
@igolf906
@igolf906 11 ай бұрын
After baking, it's cooled just enough to handle. So then I blast it, and most of the time it's still warm when I torch it. And no, it doesn't affect the feel. If I were to torch it and then quench it in oil or water, it might change the make up a bit.

I purchase them online, or trade for some. Most in pretty bad condition as you can tell. Some I keep, most of them I sell. I usually sell them for a very fair price also so, I don't really make much money on them, as long as I can make a video and try out some new finishes. 🙂

Did the putter continue to darken after the last bead blast or is it a trick of the lighting?
@igolf906
@igolf906 10 ай бұрын
The color in the video at the end is the actual color. It actually got slightly lighter after the light bead blast. The thumbnail depicts an automated enhancement so changed the color slightly for more vibrance.

That looks killer, this video just gave me inspiration to have mine done this way. I'm curious, what do you charge for something like this? Another question would be if a single 8lb box of media you linked to would be enough to run in a small blast cabinet?
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I have purchased multiple different types of media. Some are 10lbs. Some are 8lbs. And usually I only dump half the box in at a time. No need for all of it UNLESS youre only using that one kind. I only use a bit so it's easier to clean out when I change medias. Also keeps contamination at a minimum. Email me anytime at igolf906@gmail.com for any other questions.

What did you put in the dots to make the paint run
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
Isopropyl alcohol. A trick I learned a little while back to make the paint not only flow better, especially in the dots, but it keeps it bubble free and glossy! Takes a little practice because you don't want too much alcohol in there otherwise the paint will just float. Just a thin film of it.

Would torching a carbon putter prevent it from rusting?
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
Torching and oil quenching is a good rust prohibitor on carbon. It will rust over time though, if not taken care of and oiled occasionally.
@michaelhennig6303
@michaelhennig6303 Жыл бұрын
@@igolf906 would oil quenching affect the satin bronze color at all. This putter is probably my favorite of all your posts. Thanks for the great content.
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelhennig6303 Well you originally mentioned a carbon putter. This putter is stainless. When torching you will get completely different colors with the different steels. So oil quenching stainless steel wouldn't really benefit it at all, and I'm not entirely sure what would happen to the color.

Nice job, do you put any kind of sealer on it? Have you ever tried a black oxide finish on a older Newport 2? Great work really.
@igolf906
@igolf906 Жыл бұрын
No sealer on these type finishes. So they will wear as normal putters do. Cerakote makes a clear coat essentially I may try out in the future but usually isn't a very requested finish. Also, if you checkout, I believe it was my 2nd video I uploaded, I did a gun blue on an old TP Mills putter that is essentially the same as black oxide. I will definitely do more in the future when I get the proper putters in, to do that finish.

Not big enough! I use a 21 gallon 175 psi vertical. Good little compressor but when sandblasting I have to stop 2 to 3 times to let it run just to blast one putter properly. Will be upgrading soon! Looking to get a 2 stage at least 30 gallons. Will last a bit longer but will fill up way faster!
