It happens! Especially during something like the pandemic. I hope he realizes that it doesn’t mean he’s failed at sobriety. Relapses should be 100% expected, the only thing that matters is how you deal with it and that you can recover from the relapse.

I believe SNL lets the hosts do stand up if they’re comfortable with it (usually stand up comedians). If someone without a stand up background hosts, or just a regular artist, they’ll do bits so the hosts have something to do in the monologue

I got a little worried there for a second, but if anyone could pull off a monologue 3 days before Election Day it's John Mulaney (and I was NOT disappointed) I don't tend to 'like' SNL monologues, but I think this one deserves it!

“At ease” captures it perfectly! With most SNL hosts, even if their monologue is pretty good, there's a kind of constant tension as you expect them to fall flat, and when the monologue is over, a sense of relief. With Mulaney, there's none of that, he's just effortlessly funny, it's like breathing for him; it's such a joy to watch!
