The only culture it's still ok to spoof on is the Irish apparently, and there's really not that much even there to joke about. There's not a whole lot of creativity in the sketches on this show at all anymore. The pre-taped segments are still good, but the skits tend to be pretty hacky

Soooo... what was supposed to be funny here? I mean, they were just kinda flinging everything at the wall hoping for something to stick... and it didn’t. What was the main thread of the joke? The name joke that’s abandoned 10 seconds in? The dogs getting loose? The accents? The 5 seconds potato gag? I mean, what was this supposed to even be about?
@IrishknifeRD7 жыл бұрын
I wanna say just a bunch of irish stereotypes and hoping they turned out funny. the accents/dogs/potatos/music. should have thrown a dance routine in there as well. the main crux was probably so she can speech in her normal voice since she was using an american accent for most of the skits but they probably could have done something different. was a miss. oh well.

I think one of the writers thought “how can I put a ton of dogs in one sketch?” and another thought “I really want to make a great sequel to our Colonel Angus sketch.” and they made both sketches threw ‘em together for time’s sake.

It looks like a play on Irish stereotypes but it isn't. It is nuts and bolts comedy that shouldn't be looked into deeper. The cunnilingus joke at the top was hilarious, it had nothing to do with Irish stereotypes. It was funny because you could see the punchline coming from a mile away and you're waiting for the one on the left to blurt out "cunnilingus." SNL has a very academic approach to comedy and expects a lot of the audience. SNL is asking the audience to suspend disbelief and view everything through the lens of pretend Irish stereotypes. When you're properly suspending disbelief the bad accent of the pilot becomes 10 times funnier than if the accent was good, you're following along with the routine and the performance is what makes it funny.
