Saucony Endorphin Speed Review After 300 Miles
As the title leads on, I've now done 300 miles in the Saucony Endorphin Speed. Actually on date of upload I'm at 324 miles in this pair! I've talked a lot about this shoe in previous videos, and in general there has been so much hype around the entire Saucony Endorphin Line of running shoes. With the new PWRRUN PB midsole and the reactive Nylon Plate this speed trainer packs a huge punch for logging some serious miles. Join me as I talk you through some of my favorite aspects, some of my less favorites, and my final recommendations on who should buy the Endorphin Speed.

Hey, I just came here to say the exact same thing! It's one thing to say "This shoe is great!" having only run 20-50 miles in it. But I'm not a professional shoe reviewer with infinite money for shoes. I need a shoe to last. So I'm really interested in how a shoe performs at 300+ miles. This was really good info!

No squeak in mine but significantly less bounce after 150 miles. I’m only 130 pounds, I expected the cushion to last longer. Pretty disappointed.

Great review, nice to get insights after a longer time of use. Great to see that they hold up so well. I have 60 miles in mine this far, using them for tempo and quality long runs...and have kept them from mud and rain so they are still shining 🙂 ..I really like them . Cushioned but light and attack-friendly.

Great review! I have the Shift, Speed and Pro. Once I run in the Pro it's hard to run in anything else. The Shift for super easy days, The Speed for Tempo days,and The Pro for race day! You can't go wrong with the Speed or Pro. Both great shoes!

Just ran in this shoe for the first time. Loved the way they felt on my feet right away. Thought, I was out running about 6:40’ish splits for my first couple of miles, until I looked at my gps and realize I was going sub 6:10’s. Felt so effortless & buttery smooth! haha, this is one of those years it's probably best to be out exploring trails than on the streets. Clearly I'm pretty sold on these haha. I haven't ran in any Nikes yet so with the mixed reviews on their new tempo shoe I'm gonna keep my distance from them. I'd maybe include the Brooks Hyperion Tempo's to your shortlist. I love these shoes, I just set a 5 minute half marathon PB in them and they were brilliant, my favourite all time shoe right now. I've only run 50 miles in them so far so happy to have plenty of life in them yet!

Good review with a decent amount of KMs to base comments on. One change needed for v2 is a grippier outsole, on wet smooth surfaces it’s dangerous. Still my favourite shoe though 👍

Saucony endorphin speed is the best shoe of 2020. Hard to see how they can improve it in the next version. I've done 150 miles so far and they are as springy as the first time i put them on

I totally agree with your analysis of the Saucony Endorphin Speed. I own both, the Saucony Endorphin Speed and Pro. I am 68 years young and my final comment about both these shoes, "they are super comfortable and "WICKED" fast"! These shoes will outrun your feet.

spot on mike! and with what I have seen from the Pro3 vs Speed3 saucony is really trying to make the Pro more worth it in comparison to the Speed. The speed was literally too good out of the gate haha.

Actually haven't ran in Saucony's in a long time...had Kinvara 1 through 5's and kind of diverged into other brands, namely Skecher's as of late. Seems like the nitrogen midsole is awfully like the hyperburst Skecher's has in there lineup. Really excited to try the Endorphin Speed's, been doing some research for my next trainer and narrowed it down to these or Brooks Hyperion Tempo, heavily leaning towards Saucony's, thank you for your thorough review!

Close to 50 miles in mine, and fortunately/thankfully they’re still white 😊... I think this should easily be shoe of the year for 2020 based on versatility and price point. No other brand is giving you PEBA foam for $160. And although I agree that’s still pricey for a running shoe, the value is there when compared to other high performance trainers and racing shoes. Above all else, the best and most consistent ride I’ve ever experienced

I enjoyed the video. I am a re-runner from London running in kinvara 8's x2 and Nike epic react and peg-37. Nikes seem to heel slip so I have more saucony on the wish list (I went for Nike due to a higher stake following an Achilles niggle)

Hey Trent! My efforts to clean the shoes were minimal. I used some spray and did some scrubbing for a couple minutes and it looked the same haha. Although I've been asking around and I think I'm going to make a video of me attempting some cleaning techniques... we will see haha. But overall, totally agree, Endorphin Speed is just an awesome shoe.

I would recommend this shoe for anything honestly haha. There was one week after I got them that I only ran in them. I did all paces and distances in that week and the endorphin speed were amazing for everything.

Got a pr today in the half at 320 miles after getting a pr in it last year around 50 miles. Used almost exclusively for long runs the last couple hundred miles including a couple 30+ mile long runs. It's perfect. And now it's softer for the long runs lol

Luis Valda 👋🏻! So I ended up taking the shoe slightly over 350 and then officially retired it. I would say the midsole definitely did some compressing and wasn’t absorbing quite like it did in the first 150-250 miles. But honestly I still wear them as casual shoes now and they held up fine. Outsole doesn’t look too damaged and upper is fine. But for such a great shoe I’m happy with getting 350 out of them 👍🏼.

I literally put them through the wash this morning and they legit look new haha. as far as midsole I didn't notice any degradation until 320ish miles. retired them at 352 miles. Mainly just because I got some other new shoes and wanted to rotate the speed out as a casual shoe. Hope that helps! I'll know for the next 300 mile review to talk more about outsole/midsole degradation.

I ordered the Color: Navy | Citron at Saucony site, they have new colors that look better than the past models. White gets ugly when it gets dirty. So I ordered a darker color with the platform bright yellow-green instead of white.

Ahoy, yes, you are not the to first mention it haha, I’m sure not the last. Outsole held up really well. I still wear them around as casual shoes. I also tend to find outsole breakdown for road shoes tends to be more dependent on the runner. But yeah, outsole was solid for 300 👍🏼

i think the speed pairs amazing with the pro. i got the pro but did the majority of miles in the speed, nike zoom fly 3. save the pro for race day .

It looks like your feet were diving quite a lot to the inside upon the impact. Did you have the feeling the toes were getting too much pressure, or felt like 'falling out' of the shoes? I once tested the Asics Novablasts and had similar diving to the inside, which felt pretty bad (very unstable in turns) so I didn't buy those shoes.

hey Lukasz! so I felt that early on for sure but the feeling disappeared after maybe 10 miles in the shoes. Definitely initially felt almost off-balance around 90 degree turns and needed to slow down. As I worked into the shoe it seemed to cross my mind less and less.

You could go 400 I think. I retired them at 350 though. Midsole felt like it was compressing a bit and I just got new shoes so rotated these out. 👍🏼

That’s definitely recommended by shoe shops I’ve been to 👍🏼. I tend to buy shoes smaller than recommended for a better lock down and then experiment with lacing tighter/more loose. Finding the right size and fit is really best in a store trying on shoes. 👍🏼

Hey! Honestly I may push them 400 miles. Outsole looks fine on my pair, but that could be different for each runner. I tend to try and feel for how the midsole is holding up on a shoe. With a shoe like this I think the nylon plate saves the midsole a bit on all the impact. Once the ride seems to become more responsive than cushion is a good sign the shoe is starting to breakdown. sounds like you really know saucony. I bet you can do a road ultra in these. might want the trail shoe for a non-road ultra through. traction isn't amazing with these.

I currently have 626km in my Endorphin Speeds and am still running in them, even though I have another pair. I ran a 50k on a road course (virtual) in the first pair last August, pbing over both the marathon and 50k along the way. While I really like these shoes, I wouldn't do another marathon in my new pair. I ran a marathon in an old pair of Zoom Flys (the original blue ones) in 2019 and my feet hurt a lot more in the Endorphin Speeds compared to the Zoom Flys. They don't didn't give me enough support. At 60/61 my marathons do hurt a lot, but it is important to remember they were only 10 months apart. I'm still running in the Endorphin Speeds, I doubt I would do a marathon in another pair. Incidentally, I never found it squeaked when I run it.

Yeah, marathons hurt haha. I did a marathon and a 30 miler in the zoom fly 3’s and enjoyed the ride. I think longest I went in E. Speed was 21 miles-ish 🤷🏻‍♂️... you might find the endorphin pro is a better marathon shoe for you with the firmer carbon plate rather than the flexible nylon one in the speeds. A bit cheaper than Nike race shoes as well.

He says they are different to his Next%, but has not raced in them yet because of lockdowns etc. I have an unused pair of Next%, for similar reasons. I'll probably run my next marathon in them, when ever that happens. Lots of reviewers suggested the Speed was a good marathon shoe for slower runners, I'm 62 and want to break 3:30 (my pb from the 1980s is 2:43), so I concluded the Speed was preferred, but I'm no longer sure about that.

I didn’t focus on it, you are right! Don’t worry, I’ve paid the price of that from similar comments haha. Started to feel like the shoe was losing its bounce around 325+. I retired them at 350, mainly just cause I got other shoes. You could probably do 400 if you really wanted to. I still wear them as casual shoes pretty much daily. sounds like you want a track shoe? if you are doing specifically speed workouts on roads then yeah this shoe could do the job but you might want to look at more minimal shoes or a tempo shoe.

I would get the endorphin speed. But would highly recommend you trying them both on in store (or order both online and send one back) just to see how you fit in them. I know it sounds like extra work but if you are going to spend the money you should really put in the time to find the best shoe for you 👍🏼.

As someone who has both in my rotation they are both amazing shoes, but if I had to only pick one it would be the endorphin speed the durability is a lot better than the rincon and when doing tempo runs the nylon plate really does gives it an edge over the rincon, and even though its more expensive I'd still go with the saucony. Also as Kyle explained this shoe is very versatile.

Hey Pady! I found that the shoe tended to encourage more of a supination rather than a pronation. But I think the way I run tends to also lean towards supination as well. I plan on rolling my ankle outward about once a year haha.

If you have a vaporfly laying around then yeah probably go with them just cause they are more made specifically for speed. But I would argue you will enjoy the ride of the endorphin speed more. Stoked for you to get them!!

nick ivan That’s a good question! While I think you would be fine with the speed. I might encourage trying the Ride or another daily trainer. The speed can do it all, but definitely wants to go fast (whatever fast means to each runner).

I've got the sacony mad river tr (awesome) the kinvara 11 (awesome) and have been on a Saucony kick this year. I'm training for my first half marathon (2 weeks left) and my pace is about 8.20-8.30, so it's good to see you're liking the shoe at those paces as well. A lot of the reviews I've seen are from people who are way faster than me.

I bought the Saucony Triumph 17 half a year ago, and I kinda feel like the shoes are not breathable. Question is, are the Saucony Endorphin Speed could be a good shoes for everyday’s running? 3KM 5KM 10KM and even half-marathon?

I’m no doctor, but from my experience the answer is an easy yes. I did 5k time trials, track workouts, tempo runs, and long runs in this shoe. And I definitely would do any race up to marathon in them, especially if it’s going to be your all-in-one shoe 👍🏼

@@talbenhur768 definitely breathable. I ran in them through the summer here in the southern United States and we get 95 degrees (F) with high humidity and I could do 20+ mile runs in them without getting that "swampy" feeling. I can't say the same for most shoes.

How was the outsole rubber after 300 mi?

Kevin Lee, for me very little damage. A bit at the tip of the toe and inside of heels. There is one or two shots of the outsole in the video and that’s after 300 miles. In general it’s held up great but most likely is heavily dependent on the runner and how they strike 👍🏼.

I have the Speed and love them...but after 130 miles although they still feel great..when I put on my feet the new pair of speeds that just arrived, they feel different. So yes, the Speeds last more than 150-200 miles, BUT the quality of how the shoes feel (bounce, plate) has deteriorated

Retired mine after a week (120km). Stack height is too much and the rocker does not help the forefoot provide stability. They do not work everyone, another runner from club had a similar experience. If i could only recommend one shoe, it certainly would not be the Endorphin Speed. They were an expensive mistake.
