The 2019 ES *will* generally last 300k+ miles because it is using the same powerplant that has been tried and tested. That's what we call "Lexus reliability". You don't hear the term "Ford reliability" or "bmw reliability" ever as you hear "toyota reliability" now do you. Old models from many other manufacturers were reliable back in the day. Not anymore for most of them. However the new thing about the lifetime transmission fluid that all these nw cars are coming out with is pure rubbish. Don't gamble with your money. Change the fluid every 30k to 40k if you want to keep the car 20+years

@@asaeed1892 i wonder with these 10k+ mile oil changes the first owners tend to do. Every one I test drove that had around 80k+ miles 2010-2015 all had significant (to me in park) engine vibration which wasn't the case on the same engine with say less than 20k miles or 30k for 2016, 2017 - having zero vibration in park. But honestly I don't like the ride of them from 2007 onward didn't ride as good as our 1999 ES300 with 220k miles - rather befuddling, so I'm going with an older LS instead. I haven't had chance to ride in '19 though, it might be improved.

@jonny j Yes he's correct. V6 camrys and lexuses have been using the same engine and tranny for almost 20 years. The only thing they did to the powertrain is refinement and durability improvements. No gimmicks or extra addons. Even the electronics in the vehicle are simple and has so many hard buttons.

@jonny j Generally not true. If this was one of a few Lexus to boast this sort of reliability, what you say could be true. But Leonard's statement just reinforces the statement of reliability we've heard so many times so often. Same holds true for Toyota. It's not because a car is old and has simplicity. The model T was as simple as one could get. Older too! But reliability was not it's bragging right. No, Lexus has definitely developed a pattern of being very dependable relative to other autos.

@jonny j I have to agree. My mechanic said to me; "Whatever you do keep hold of your old Toyota becasue the new ones are no good. I'm seeing far to many come in. They're just not as reliable" That - and the fact that they've hooked up with the most unreliable brand when it comes to performance cars, namely BMW. Name me an m-car in the last 30 years that hasn't had anything but catastrophic engine issues. Match that to the fact that I've never been in any BMW including the old E30, that wasn't lit up like a Christmas tree with electrical faults

Recently bought a 2013 ES350 with only 30,009 miles. Solid like a tank, quiet like a vault. Must’ve been garaged and driven lightly. It’s virtually brand new, still has that new car smell. I bought a set of 4 New Lexus ES carpet mats and that’s it. Incredible V6 engine (mine has 268 Hp) and takes regular gas. Smooth ride. Best car I’ve ever owned!!

This is my very first time watching a video on this channel and I must say that the first guy (that is, the guy that drove the hell out of this Lexus) made me almost tear up with his obviously sincere and passionate review of this car. To be very honest, no car reviewer has ever made me feel this way about car review, and so I'm going straight ahead to subscribe. Breath of fresh air! Really depends on what you want from your Lexus. If you're an old person that puts around at 30 mph all day, this is perfect. If you like to drive hard, the GS is infinitely superior.

There's little issues I have with the GS. The ES is actually faster than the AWD version. The ES takes 87 octane. The interior of the Es is better too - the heat works quicker, and the air con is way better on the ES. It seems bigger inside. There's pros and cons to both.

@@EricDraht You're right, but that's the OP's point - "pros and cons to both" is not the same as "renders the GS irrelevant" - I just think SavageGeese is overlooking the ES's lack of RWD / AWD. I know I'll be annoyed when my GS lease is up, if the GS is gone AND the ES still has no AWD option. I'll go back to Acura (provided they make a replacement for the RLX that's worth my time) or just buy my GS off lease. Where I live you have to have AWD...

Very good review. Too many times, reviewers make the mistake in evaluating this car in terms of sport/performance, when it wasn’t ever intended to be. The person buying this car wants luxury, and that is how cars should be looked at...in terms of the intentional consumer. Great job.

I don’t buy cars new and I’ve been waiting for these to hit the used car market at a good value. Yesterday I picked up a low mileage 2019 ES350 with the luxury trim package. The dealer let me drive it by myself and let me tell you, I put it through the paces and drove it for a good 30 minutes. I put it in sport mode and merged onto the freeway and the car is so smooth I was up to 90 mph in no time. It’s the quietest and smoothest, most comfortable car I’ve owned and my last Lexus was an LS460. We drove it to see family last night and I put it in eco mode and stayed at 70 for about 30 miles on the freeway and I got 39 mpg on the way there. It’s such a beautiful car. It’s not a sports car but you can have some fun with it. I was going to get an ES300h but the chose the ES350 for the more traditional feel of it. And 39 mpg on the freeway isn’t far off from what the hybrid version gets. I’m very pleased with it. I thought I would hate that the infotainment screen isn’t a touch screen but the sales guy showed me the voice command button on the steering wheel. You can just tell it what you want it to do and it works flawlessly so there’s no reason to even use the touchpad. The Lexus voice activated navigation is easier to use than Apple CarPlay. The 2019 re-design was brilliant. Definitely the best ES they have made in my opinion. It has plenty of power and performance, more than enough for me. And it uses regular unleaded.

Toyota make absolutely silky V8s too. Try one in a Lexus. They’re every bit as smooth as their V6s but with very beautiful V8 characteristics.

Josh if youre paying 35,000$ minimum for your car, you dont worry avout fuel economy. If fuel economy is your priority then youd stick with a 10,000$ car because youd be too poor to maintain lexus if youre worried about fuel.

Just purchased the ES a couple weeks ago. Savagegeese is right on the money. This thing feels so more luxurious. Definitely not a sports car but can occasionally be thrilling on a back road. But for most people, driving on the highway and city, this has plenty of power with all the comfort of a more expensive luxury car. This is an awesome daily driver. @savagegeese great accurate review!

Simple fix for the closing the doors if you happen to be on the shorter side like me. As you enter the car, make sure you pull the inside door handle with you as you sit in the seat. Works every time if done correctly.

I own a 2016 which is a fine car. If you are looking to drive in total serenity, take one for a test drive. It does not handle like Audi or BMW, but that's not why you get one. You will not hear other's stereos, smell their stinking exhaust or burning oil, smell their cigarettes. Fine car, built like a tank.

I find the new ES an amazing car, but few notes here. 1) The V6 produces 300 hp and the front wheels have a hard time getting these ponies on the road when flooring. That's a disadvantage of a FWD. 2) The AWD only comes in a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder. Unless you live in snowy areas, I don't see much value in an under powered AWD car. 3) When closing the doors, it sounds real "thinny". It somehow detracts quality, even though this car is sound. So what would be in my view the best option? The hybrid version. Still 215 hp, plenty of torque but not too much that the front wheels can't handle the power. Lastly, an amazing gas mileage. EPA estimates 44 mpg and with conservative driving, this is achievable. If you are an audiophile, do get the ML upgrade. It's worth it.

I test drove a 2016 ES350 yesterday and was blown away by the quality and driving feel of it. They're so far above the rest, especially because they lead the pack in reliability as well.

I drive a 2015, and it was a clear choice. Especially since there's so many of them still on the road, the re-sale value is fantastic, and the drive is just lovely. I look forward to 6 hour drives. It's just an amazing drive.

The Adventure Mazda - you should test drive a 2019 version then. The ride is amazing, along with the upgraded materials and technology. The Safety system is _significantly_ better.

100% agreed on the limited slip dif. The amount of torque even in smaller turbo charged 4 cylinders is getting ridiculous. At least you didn't get any wheel hop out of the Lexus which means the motor mounts must be of good quality.

I just bought a 2019 avalon xle and that's how i described it over most other gas cars its like driving a hybrid, when i get home my family says we didn't even hear you pull in or your door close. The v6 is buttery smooth every1 i take on a ride says its like driving on their couch and im averaging 28mpg. But lexus does take it to another level i just dont have the budget as a young professional yet.

Leased 2019 ES 300h Premium 1/2 yrs ago, now 16,000 miles. IT'S A KEEPER! Mark's review spot on. Comfort, luxury, solid fit and finish, relaxed drivability, grips the road, great for everyday use. Most people compliment the car after experiencing a ride. Great freeway cruiser: set adaptive cruise control, use middle lanes, let hot rods zip by, get 46+ MPG. Lots of trunk and back seat room for passengers. Will buy when 4 yr lease is up. Have 1999 Toyota Sienna for hauling.

@@googoo-gjoob No. Good low end torque, quick accelleration off the line for traffic & freeway merging, no accelerator lag like I had with 2017 ES 350. 0-60 over 7 seconds fast enough.

By far, best car reviewers. Now a days, people prop up a Go Pro inside the car, talk about themselves, and regurgitate generic details about a car, and consider that to be a car review. Not Savage Geese. The sound tests and data. No one else shows the undercarriage and talks about it.

Just sold our 2007 Lexus ES 350 for $ 2500 - 183k miles. Not sure if I was getting bad advice but an oil pump failure and labor was more than I wanted to spend on it. The shop implied that it may need a total engine replacement (not sure that I believed it). But, I felt like I was putting too much money in to this car - numerous issues with the dash melting (documented problem), windows not working and then this oil pump failure convinced me to let it go. Pleased with what we got out of it over the years.

great vid as always. Sold my Merc clk320 (great for an older car) and got rid of my ML350CDI with all the options. Just bought a 2013 ES350 sports luxury with 60k (35000miles) on it, It's so much better than my Merc, I can't beieve it . If there's only one problem, I'm 6'4" and it's a little snug but it really goes, exceptionally silent and beautiful engine.

$50K for a fully loaded ES350 is not peanuts but it is not unreasonable. Mercedes E class starts at $53.5K with 4 cyl. engine. And don't tell me that it is a different car because of rwd. Almost nobody driving these cars can tell the difference. If the engine overpowers the front wheels so easily in this Lexus, maybe Avalon is a better offer after all.

I had 2 E-classes. LOTS of problems. Switched to Lexus and have never regretted it. Sure won't go back to German crap. A friend just bought an Avalon and is very happy with it. She priced it in our state and pushed hard but got only minimal concessions. Went to a neighboring state and "saved" almost $2K.

Depending on state and region, but you can get a fully loaded 2019 ES (and not just the Ultra Luxury pkg, but with _all_ the options - Noise Canceling Wheels, Triple L Beams, crazy large Panoramic sunroof, Wireless charge, half leather/wood heated steering wheel) in Southern California for ~ $48.6K. Not that much more than a fully loaded Avalon. The car shown in this video is missing a lot of the features and no way should be 50k.

Obviously people who have a collection or who collected CD’s, are still gonna use them, they are not gonna go to waste presumably. This is why car manufacturers should offer CD players in cars still, at least as a cheap or no cost option.

I secretly want one of these to commute in. Just an isolation chamber. I love what Lexus is doing with the interior space which is where you are most of the time. I can get over the exterior looks even, because I know these cars are so reliable, but at 50K USD new I doubt I'll ever have one in my driveway.

Ahhh yes, 1542 Lexus sailed the ocean blue, wait... But yeah, that 3.5 is mint. I know a few people that have a Lexus with that engine and they have well over 300K miles, no issues whatsoever. Great car, thanks for the video, really liked the intro music Mark!

I just picked up a 2013 ES 350 with only 30k miles on it. Car drives smooth as silk, engine is healthy, etc. It's one of the best "driver-friendly" cars I've ever driven.

The es is quieter, and smoother than the LS. Lexus dropped the ball in the luxury department with the cramped new LS. The LS looks AMAZING though!

That thing with the doors being ridiculously far out and hard to reach. Same on my GS. And I am 189 cm tall. I absolutely love that! It is like having had to wear Large size jeans your whole life, and finally finding XL size which fit properly..

Very good review. May I suggest you mention this car runs on regular gas, a 20-25% savings over premium gas which most other luxury vehicles use, especially those that are turbo charged. Lexus knows who will buy this particular vehicle and made it specifically for that clientele. For everyday driving there are very few vehicles that can compare in terms of ride and comfort. And yes, I did recently buy a ES350 and am very happy with my purchase.

@@grizzlyman329 I just bought a 2015 in mint condition for $17,500 from an individual so it kind of depends on how good you are at negotiating with people but you aren't far off. I love it though. It's a great daily driver. I have an Infiniti G37x for my fun car and dealing with snow but when I want something to cruise around in this thing definitely has an insanely smooth ride and comfort that the Infiniti isn't quite on that level of. The Infiniti isn't stock though so it isn't even comparable in terms of speed and in terms of fun the Infiniti kills the Lexus. I love both of them but the Infiniti doesn't have the same reliability so I am inclined to drive it less to avoid breaking it. I have done a lot of work to it and working as a master mechanic/Automotive technician for a living, I hate working on my own cars. I bought the Lexus so I'd have something to drive when my Infiniti breaks down. I knew it would be like this when I bought it though and I am know pushing the car as much as I do on top of the mods makes it more prone to breaking and the average person isn't going to be doing that to their vehicle.

My 80-year-old mom bought one of these used, since she loved her previous Lexus so much with the easy-to-pair phone options. She and my dad have now gone back to the dealership three times to get "lessons" on how to work the weird-ass trackpad thingy that controls the infotainment screen. Knowing how hapless my mother is, and how short-tempered my dad is with gadgetry, if enough dealerships begin sending SOS messages back to corporate, they will eventually change the media system (probably). After watching vids of it, I understand the control motions for navigation, but when I was in the car with them trying to figure stuff out WHILE driving it, I can understand their frustrations. A touch screen would be soooo much more simple and less risky IMO. Great review!

Thomas Ning that wood may look over lacquered on screen, but you sit in one and of the light is shining right, you can see the depth and the actual training of the wood. Imo Lexus makes the best woods for their cars and they do look amazing in person.

Still love my 2018 RC 350... but I have to say, my family were to grow with some little munchkins, I'd have a hard time passing up a ES 350. I'd want AWD tho; FWD only with that amount of power seems a bit nerf. Maybe in the future they'll add an AWD option. I love the exterior styling too, looks like a 4-door RC, and the grill looks good on this one. In a world of bland, generic looking cars, this looks different.

It's an easy fix. If you're smaller or shorter,just DO NOT open the door as wide as possible. The reason why Toyota/Lexus does that is for easy accessibility if someone is bigger/taller. As always,superb review.

I own a 2003 Toyota Avalon, I'm the original owner with 210,000 miles on it and still runs like a champ! Wife bought a 2019 Lexus NX300 and we love it! CarPlay in this vehicle is awesome!

I love your car reviews. you present exterior/interior, tech/mechanical details so nicely and right to the point. No garbage at all. some of other car reviewers(e.g carwow, redline, Doug) make my ears bleed when they throw unnecessary nonsense and completely irrelevant information. they do have important details and information but I don't want to go through truckload of garbage to know something. This is now my go to channel for car information. Thank you and keep up the great work!

I actually read a article that said its not sharing the avalon platform but that avalon and camry actually share the same platform as the es350. Meaning the es350 used the platform first that camry and avalon used later and I believe they all still share the same platform today. I have the 2018 es350 and its excellent it sits next to my old 2006 lexus is 250 with 240000 miles!

Not exactly. The three cars all use different versions of the same platform. It was introduced in 2018 for the Camry and in 2019 for the Avalon and ES. Your 2018 ES 350 is built on the previous platform.

Seems a lot like a modern Jag XJ6. Soft ride, a bit more power than it likely needs, interior appointments that are a bit behind the times but pretty to look at, the big change it that it won't break for 10 or 12 years.

Overall, I love everything about this car. But there are a few I wish they would improve or included in this car: (1) the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control stops a little too abruptly in heavy traffic, creating a jerky motion when coming to full stop and must manual engage to resume again from 0. Take a demo of how Audi and Mercs do it.. it’s much smoother. (2) Power folding mirrors would be nice option at this price point. (3) touch pad infortainment can be improved. It’s much smoother control than the touch pads on the various 2016-18s Lexus’ and MUCH better than that old mouse control knob, but it still an be improved. Not a dealbreaker though.. people should try it. (4) an AWD option with a AW steering, and adaptive dampers suspensions (Not just the F-Sport Ultra).

Just because the doors open wide don't mean you have to open it that way. Wide open doors has it's advantages like fitting bigger items in it. Also I think the ES is one of the better looking car out there, especially the F-sport trim front grill.

I honestly feel like the interior of the Avalon is more ergonomic and user friendly. I actually find myself liking the Avalon interior more. I'll always prefer a touchscreen over a touchpad. The learning curve is way easier on a touchscreen. The exterior styling of the ES is better than the Avalon though. I'm really glad you made that point about how this car performs even though it is basically an Avalon in a three piece suit. I have told people for years that Lexus is tuned and engineered slightly different than their Toyota counterparts. This might sound stupid but, if this new ES350 had the infotainment system of the Avalon then it would have been a much more appealing package to me. Great video btw. 👍🏼

@@michaelgrant5258 I honestly don't think that the ride quality will be all too different from the ES350 but, a test drive would surely confirm anything. I just hope that the annoying kickdown lag that the Camry V6 and Avalon have had for a long time when doing an aggressive pass doesn't piss you off enough to turn you away from an otherwise great long lasting vehicle. The Avalon is an IIHS.org Top Safety Pick + and it has a lot of great amenities like memory seating and a heated steering wheel. I have heard that Toyota and Google finally got Android Auto up and working because I think the 2020 Highlander will be the first to offer it so, it's only a short matter of time before their other models get it with an over the air update. I really think that I would wait a few years and buy the Avalon certified pre-owned or used from a private seller with a good carfax track record. It feels great buying a brand new car but, I got my current car (2009 Camry LE V6) for a great price used and it has been super dependable, durable and reliable. So, given that, I think buying used is a more efficient way to go unless you buy the new car outright and get a great out the door deal for it. One thing I have noticed is that Toyota's quality will be present regardless if the car is new, certified pre-owned or used from a previous responsible owner. There will always be exceptions to this but, my current Toyota is my first Toyota and it has made me a believer of Toyota's quality. Never thought I'd own a Toyota product being how I was a diehard Nissan fan who loved the Maxima to death but, I'm so glad I got over my closed mindedness. With so many great cars out there I was only fooling myself being loyal to just one make and model.

Only issue with ES350 V6 engine as well as Avalon and Camry V6 engine is that when it comes time to change the spark plugs, 3 of them are in the back by the firewall and you have to take off the windshiled cowl, wipers, air intake, etc. The front 3 are easy to do.

Well that opening with the camera on the door glass was awesome... and a first-see for me. Thanks for that! I was looking forward to watching this as I just returned a '19 ES 350 loaner at my Lexus dealer. I had it for 2 weeks while waiting for my GS 350 F-Sport to be done getting repaired (idiots damaged it while working on installing a new sunroof!). I've only had my CPO GS for a couple months, and have really gotten used to the feel and sound of it. Well, this ES 350 is incredibly smooth and a TOMB of quietness... so much so that I was mildly disappointed to get my GS back. The GS is definitely not quiet in comparison, with a decent amount of road noise from the stiff tires, wind noise around the sunroof, and plenty of intake, engine and transmission noise coming through the firewall. I'm 6 feet tall with longish arms and I completely agree about how far you have to reach to grab the door to close it. You nearly fall out of the car! It's a bizarre design oversight. The example I had in Atomic Silver had a monotonous black on black interior that left me lusting for the sporty Cabernet leather interior of my GS. I was surprised at a few of the hard plastic parts that were within reach compared with the rich lush surfaces everywhere in my wife's new Mazda CX-5 Turbo. I kept being reminded that this was a luxury Camry, made in the US. The buttons and switches are poorly lit at night, especially the controls on the door such as windows, locks, mirrors etc. There are auxiliary controls on the lower portion of the left dash that are recessed back and nearly impossible to find and read when driving. The touch interface is an example in corporate stubbornness on the part of Lexus. They invested heavily in the "idea", and so solidly stuck to their guns in attempting to refine it over the years. I hate it in my GS, I hate it in this brand new ES, and it will never compare to the simplicity of the rotary knob unit in the Mazdas. There are so many hidden menus and sub-menus for functions that you just want a God damned knob for. Despite being overall quite conservative looking, I have loved the GS series for decades due to it's rear-drive aesthetic with long hood/short trunk proportions. The 2015 model I own has the pre-spindle grill that came in 2016 and has an overall butch aesthetic. This new look of Lexus with the windswept spindle grill and space-ship headlights looks so overwrought and unexciting to me. Every day I walked toward the ES before or after work, I was disappointed that it wasn't my GS. The ES has always been so boring to me. The grill has a plethora of lines and the tail lights - while actually very nicely done - are so low on the rear fascia that the overall aesthetic of the rear is droopy butt. I know that's what aerodynamic modelling dictates, but it's just plain frumpy looking from the back. Inside the dashboard has little going on with it that makes me look forward to interacting with it on a drive. It's got that odd Toyota inspired diagonal linework on the dash that is a sketchpad idea that should have been torn off and thrown to the floor of the design studio. Think Toyota Venza dashboard from 10 years ago. Meh. And Lexus, Lexus... come come now with these impossible to see push button access surfaces next to the glove box and change bin. Being black on black they're impossible to find in the dark and they don't have particulalry tactile surfaces that make them project or be easy to find. And what is with those map lights? They're another "idea" that you came up with and then stubbornly invested time and money in. Yet, they're ridiculous! A touch surface with - again - very little tactile surface differentiation with all the other functions in that overhead console. So many features in close proximity, and I just want to open my sunroof, yet fumbling for the buttons, at night, while driving, I inadvertently tap the touch-sensitive surface of the lights and they turn on. It's not a click button, just a surface like one of those "sold on TV" lamps with the Tiffany shade that you touch to turn on. What a crappy idea, especially since nearly every object on the overhead console is black. Despite the overall size of the car, with great rear seat legroom (plenty for my 6 foot frame behind myself) I find that the driver's seat cushion has a narrow frame under it, creating pinch points on my over hips that I thought only the smaller Mazdas still had. I'm shocked by this, and I'm in good shape. Another HUGE miss by Lexus is the dead pedal. You know, that flat spot you can park your left foot on? It's a solid INCH closer to the firewall than the accelerator pedal is. It's useless unless you slide your seat forward and compromise your right leg comfort while using the accelerator. Silly oversight Lexus. On a bright note, that 3.5 V6 feels SO damned good at any speed. You can lay a 20 foot patch without effort. When you're on the highway going 40, plant your foot and feel the trunk rotate down into the pavement as the torque launches you to 90 MPH in seconds. This car is a friggin rocket! It definitely feels faster than my F-Sport, even though the AWD F Sport can out handle it on any type of road. And yeah it's not a cornering machine but I found that the V rated tires this thing rides on were pretty adept at faking a sport sedan "feel". OK I've said enough and if anyone actually got this far, well, thanks for indulging me!

No one cares about the top end of the motor when they drive this car. What matters is the quiet, smooth low end torque. The power at the top end is just there.
