I mean...if the bride was a good friend I feel like she wouldn’t ask you to wear something you’re uncomfortable in. Insecurities can be an horrendous matter and I’d never willingly force someone to put themselves in a position where they feel to ugly, fat, shapeless etc. The bridesmaids should be supportive, obviously, and be willing to try a colour or style that maybe they don’t love but they are the ones who have to wear the dress so they also have to be happy with the choice.

My sisters and I did the same thing. I have two sisters and we all decided long before we ever got engaged that we wanted to pick someone other than each other as maid of honor. I honestly feel like it was a great decision for us, we're all so close so we knew we'd all be in the wedding. But I loved being able to honor my best friend the way I did and it made it really special. It also helped a lot with bringing them together more, since my sisters wanted to help out and it is typically maid of honor that plans things, so they all planned together.

My little sister is not my maid of honor for a few reasons. At my wedding, my father in law and brother in law were really upset that my brother in law wasn’t going to be a groomsman. My husband chose 4 of his closest friends who were always there for him and way closer than his 18 year old brother. His brother is a little rebel who left the family, cussing everyone out and pretty much saying we’re not family and mean nothing to him. So much for having him be part of our wedding and letting down a good friend. I’m honestly still a little butthurt that my husbands parents had so many things they wanted done their way but in the end, we’re married and that’s what matters. Evie Addy And where I would agree with that in other cases when it comes to your own wedding you do have to make that decision. A maid of honor if a very important responsibility and college life can take up a lot of your time especially if you were going for nursing or anything like that. I had the opposite problem😣, I asked my identical twin sister to be my maid of honor and because I was the center of attention she told me *NO* ,I was 30 years old when I finally got married. I was heartbroken but called my half sister, who I hadn’t seen in 10 years and she agreed and felt honored that I thought of her. Wedding drama can be so extreme💝 God Bless this woman getting married! I feel for her!

The way I see it is that if the bride pays for the dress, the bridesmaids should shut up and let the bride have her way as it is her wedding but if they buy the dress on their dime, the bride should give them a few requirements (length and colour) and they can choose. Is that just me?

This is why I'm not having bridesmaids at my wedding. No drama and it's not a necessary part of the ceremony. The only drama I can see out of my decision is women getting pissy about it, but that's fine. Much better than dress picking drama and "why didn't you pick ME to be the maid of honor" drama. Okay. So. Your going to let someone pick out a dress you have little say on that you will only wear once in your life and be the one who has to pay for it? And later on you would have to pay for the hair, nails, travel, gifts, etc. That can very very easily add up to over $1,000. I'm so glad I didnt have to deal with any of this mess when I got married back in the day. My bridesmaids got their dresses custom made from 1 pattern that the 5 ladies agreed to. The dresses turned out beautifully and it only cost them $60 person person. It's no way I'd have that many in my wedding party let alone come to a bridal appointment smh
