This fear thing is spot on. William does go in depth in his program (I enrolled), not only focusing on the physical but also on the psychological and neurological aspects of chronic pain. He recommends several good books to educate on this topic. Self-awareness and dedication are key to overcome that long and deep-seated fear. Seriously, within just a few months of William’s program, I started to see better and faster results than with years of seeing doctors and doing all of the physical therapy there is, because I started to realize my own issues on my own (doctors usually don't touch on the psychological and mind-body aspects of chronic pain). I highly recommend William's program to anyone who wants to be fit and active but suffer from chronic pain (he first vets you to see if you qualify, because it is not for absolutely everyone). Like he says in this video, it takes a lot of personal commitment and dedication, but see, that’s where the beauty is, because you will no longer depend on other people to get better. Before, I used to reach out to my physical therapist when I had a bad flare up, but now I just take deep breathe and go back a few steps into the program, because all of the answers and tools are already there.

You got really a good point in there. I also had back injuries and first thing comes to my mind that my fear was making it worst.

Fear is definitely making my day to day decisions right now, but slowly working out of it.

I’m a guy who used to barbell row 100kg with good form for reps to recently the bar just because of this exact problem. I have a fear in bending down. Slowly slowly I’m gonna build up until every weight I perform at is pain free

I have come to the conclusion that fear is the number one reason why I’m not getting better! My back issues began in 2020 just bending over to get a baking dish out of a lower cabinet. MRI showed L4, L5and S1 issues. I did PT, injections and was offered gabapentin which I refuse to take. Nothing worked. I bought a treadmill for Xmas and I was doing so good! My outlook was positive for the first time in four years! I went from walking approximately 200 steps a day to 6,000! A couple months into my routine on the treadmill and PT exercises, a family member suffered a severe medical crisis which sent my positivity crashing. I’ve not been back on the treadmill since January 12. My back and leg pain is back. I know that my mental state and becoming sedentary once again is the cause. I used to love to garden and take care of my home but now I’m back to square one, riddled with both pain and depression.

This fear, depression and tension gets deep into the body/mind and are so interwoven with the process of chronic pain. I found the work/ books of Dr Schubiner, Dr Sarno, Dr Joe Dispenza helpful in truly understanding the depth the mind can play regarding pain and illness. I've realised that the pains and physical struggles are one thing, but the psychological realm this creates is the greater battle. Know that you're not alone, desperate to do jobs you feel you can't etc, It can be such a drag. I recommend Joe Dispenza; You are the placebo. It's great knowledge to have. You could read it when you get back on your treadmill soon. When the doctors don't help, friends are doubtful, and you're trapped in pain, your own strength and advocacy is your rock. Stay positive.
