Idk if you saw a reply telling you we did get to see Big Boy! I took some videos that I uploaded, terrible quality, but we had such an amazing time I had to take some and upload them. We almost missed it because of confusion on the website. Luckily we went with our gut and caught it right when it started to leave. His whistle is breathtaking!! Couldn't believe how loud it was!! What an amazing experience!!

Dan, thanks for showing us Idaho and reminding me again why I need to get out of NJ! I'm voting your videos the most relaxing on the RailFan Times. The audio of those engines on the grade is impressive. Those diesels are so powerful and reliable. Seeing the long windy train puts me in awe when I see 2 engines pulling away at such a lengthy train! Never will get use to that sight.

The eastbound stacker at the start is an ITAG4(Tacoma, WA-Joliet, IL). At times it has been running with 170-200+ cars running 2x1x0.
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan Ай бұрын
I wondered if that was the ITAG but didn't know. They sure give it the least amount of power possible.
@AdamV1313
@AdamV1313 Ай бұрын
@@TheRailfanDan there are only 2 stackers that grace the PNW for UP now days, one each way. The ITAG4 and IG4SE with the usual B or Second sections thrown in as well. Other then those 2 its the one each way for Z trains as well. A far cry from what it was years ago. As for the power situation, most eastbound trains shed power in pocatello and run at the bare minimum for TPA for the trip to Green River.

The intermodal train's lead locomotive is an AC4460, which is one of my big favourites. It's good to see the old Hammerhead is still working hard and earning their keep. The vegetation is beautiful here, especially along the rivers. Looks like Idaho isn't as dry as Nevada is in the summer months. The rolling hills are also very pretty. And I think Lava Hot Springs is one of the coolest town names ever. 😀 Great trailer again Dan. I'm sure the full length version will be very spectacular.

I like those 6000's as well! Great to see them still in service. Yes definitely seems more lush here than Nevada overall. Glad you enjoyed my friend. Thank you!

Another Saturday blessing Dan. I traveled US30 many times and found it a very scenic and interesting route. In addition to trains I found interesting stops in Lava Hot Springs, Soda Springs, Montpellier and Kemmerer, WY (birthplace of JC Penneys)

Gorgeous scenery once again Dan. I'm guessing those "smooth sided" mountains are volcanic in nature. I'm very interested in things like that. Yes, that intermodal was very long. I was trying to see if at some point I could see the whole train and stop the video and count the cars but I couldn't. Then you could multiply the average car length by the number of cars and get an idea of how long it is. Just amazing the length of these trains. Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you, Dan, for another tease video that will be part of a longer video on Union Pacific's Granger Line! The scenery on this portion of the Granger Line seems the same except for a few locations where some farming is taking place. Are the any industries Granger Line or is it a point-to-point railroad line? I enjoyed watching te trains in this video!(Posted on 2 ovember 2024 at 2328 CDT.)

Thanks so much Thomas! There are some industries but only a few and very big. Coal facilities farther East into Wyoming and there are a couple industries on a branchline out of Soda Springs but I don't have much info on them.

Thank you Gary! Yes I spend a lot of time on Google Maps and Earth looking up spots and where I can position myself to fly from to make the most of an area. Batteries last between 30 and 40 minutes depending on how aggressive you fly.
