Ian just has a knack for explaining things. The alignment stick prop comes out and light bulb moment... I get it (spin loft window). So cool. Then Matt steps up as usual and rips it, first take. You guys are awesome.

Abbreviated follow through is how Tiger does it but he’s all feel. Gary and Tiger play together a lot. Wouldn’t be surprised if Gary learned it directly from watching tiger. After all Jupiter and their courses are right off the ocean so it’s probably a shot that’s used a lot.

The Human Iron Byron was fantastic as usual. I've not had success with a full swing attempt at a stinger--best method for me has been more of an exaggerated punch shot. I don't get the distance, but do stay low and on target. Next time maybe a little more instruction for those of us novices!
@takl235 жыл бұрын
This makes perfect sense if you also put it in comparison to punching out from the trees. How many of us take a mid iron place the ball a bit back and punch it out? It flies low and scoots across the fairway. Same thing with a wedge and it hits a branch for reference see: Molinary, Franco, Masters 2019 😁

This made me think of a quick question.... I hit my 4 iron pretty well (Mizuno JPX 900 Forged, PJ X LZ 5.5 Steel Shaft 115g, GP MCC4 PLUS Align Midsize grip).... however I find I have some issues with contact. The gap between it and my 3 hybrid (222, 209) is decent, but when I hit my buddy's 4 iron (same everything except he has the LZ GRAPHITE shaft) I hit his much better. Is that a viable/smart option for me?
@t.j.hodnett96585 жыл бұрын
Sorry... my gap is 209-194. Gave you my 3w wood to 3 hybrid gap lol
@clubchampionmedia5 жыл бұрын
Can be worth a look, the longer the club the more total weight you're dealing with. So the graphite may have just been a little easier to swing giving you better contact/consistency
@t.j.hodnett96585 жыл бұрын
@@clubchampionmedia that makes perfect sense!! I've played around with lead tape by the grip to lower the swing weight in the past and it felt great, but after i got used to it the same results happened. @@clubchampionmedia He can certainly move it out there with a 21 degree club eh. I have the U 4 in the 717 range Honma I just got about last November. But don't get the distance I would like with it. 5 iron flying about 190 but this u4 is only going about the same. Same shaft etc with the NSPRO 950. should I try and move to a graphite shaft and a little longer perhaps. Or def not!! Any advice would be great. Thanks. Or move to a gapper or hybrid.

I feel like I've seen Tiger with a low, almost abbreviated follow thru on the stinger. Does that de-loft the club further or does it come from the mental image of a shallow attack?

For sure, that finish is likely a by-product of both those

I don't know if I would call that a true stinger. More of a low trajectory shot. What was the peak height? Looks to be around 90 ft.
@antonmurphy15 жыл бұрын
As much as I admire Tiger's game I really don't think Tiger invented the "stinger"as you claim. Links players on this side of the pond have been playing so called stingers for ever as golf shots have had to be played in the wind and gales for generations. The "american" tour game of playing always in the air and in a gentle breeze dosn't cut it over here lots of times. For all that, great web site and have learned loads from your videos.
@Leo-eb1wl5 жыл бұрын
Ok so this isn’t actually a stinger, it was just a lower flighted ball, stinger is a much lower penetrating ball. Great instruction for lower ball flight though, maybe you could have just added swing easy in the wind. I see many people swing hard into wind to try and get more distance, swinging hard will just amp up spin for most amateur golfers.

If Tiger claims him inventing the stinger,?...then he is dishonest! Low ball flight shots were the ORIGINAL GOLF SHOT in and around early days.....home of golf, St,Andrews. Every hack and Jack played it as it was effective in the wind. Im sure Tiger copied it and renamed it. I think its a common punch shot
