@lilithstardust73595 жыл бұрын
@@uzazi2043 the first thing I can think of is that the calculation for graphical quality is complete nonsense, since the Frames per Game was already an accurate average of the framerate for each player, so when it was divided by the number of players it makes the cultural effect have more of an effect. The second of my two large issues is how the exponent in the cultural effect calculation A: isn't a representation of what people think of a game. B: ignores nearly impossible to please critics like Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation who have very clear rulesets for what they think makes a good game. C: could have included a simple checklist of characteristics to identify if a game was made with artistic intention or simply to profit as much as possible, adding or subtracting from the exponent. And D: was not ever all that accurate for what it did, even just increasing the sample size to 10-15 people and averaging it would have been more accurate. With all of those changes applied the difference between maximum and minimum values would be decreased significantly, games that were very clearly hacked out to try and bleed the players dry as unregulated online casinos (SW battlefront II, for example) wouldn't just get a explicit penalty for being awful, but their constant bad publicity would wear on that kind of game even harder. Then using the average of those raw values you could use a specialized algorithm I forgot the name of to compress the entire range into -100-100, giving an easy to understand expression of each game's quality, then simply not recalculating that range until the highest score is 150-175 and using some straightforward data manipulation programs to retroactively correct all of the scores, that or store the unmodified scores and release dates and simply limit the initial range to the last time it was recalculated, either way it'd be a semi accurate representation of the value of a game

@@user-vo8zx1db6m The "frames per game" score was also divided by the number of players who played the game unnecessarily (which actually made games with larger actual playerbases do WORSE in the equation than games with smaller actual playerbases (assuming that all other factors are equal)), since all of those gamers are not sharing just one copy of a game. I believe that that was a part of the joke, however. Also, the playtime of the game was effectively squared and then multiplied into the final result, so games that technically had really long (but boring) playtimes would have done much, much better that games that had much shorter playtimes... if the cultural impact part of the equation wasn't so wacky.

since your BCE equation uses the google searches as a factor. games that came out over the past 2 weeks won't have as many results as games that came out in January of 2018. so you should multiply the searches by the reciprocal of how many days the game has been out. since smash came out 23 days ago, the reciprocal would be 1/23. so then multiply 1/23 to the searches and then divide your answer by the negative results times the reciprocal of the games times the funko pops
@bazookaeliminator11686 жыл бұрын
i don't know if my explanation is good but i can draw a picture reciprocal of date of game (google search results x fancy google search results) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- reciprocal of ( negative search results) x ( 1 x (# of pops ) date of game

Bazooka, that's a good point well made.
@sleuthbear96176 жыл бұрын
That would encounter the same problem. games that have been recently released like Smash would have a higher value purely by the virtue that they are new, so people are talking about them. So a game like God of War which has been out for a while, whilst still being as relevant as smash on release, due to the very small reciprocal multiplier would have a smaller value.
@bazookaeliminator11686 жыл бұрын
@@sleuthbear9617 you're right, but it would be still more accurate. maybe you could just use search results that were created within a month of the games release and just divide those results by 30. if you see a problem with that tell me and i can try to fix the formula

I love the Polygon team, but their output has dramatically decreased since the McElboys left (which is 100% coming from over their heads and not anybody's fault).
