Ray is a songwriting rule bender and risk taker. His fearlessness in the face of musical conventionalism is inspirational.

This where the Kinks really staked their claim at best psychadelic rock song of the sixites...and while it wasn't the orchestral production of brian wilson...nor the cinematic soundscape of john lennon...ray davies knew how to keep it short and simple...it's perfect!

The Kinks were never a psychedelic rock band but yes this is THE original raga rock song and still the best ever.

Thanks for posting. I've never seen this clip before, though a fan of thand, especially this era. Cool gear used by the brothers. Always a fan of this droning sound, that they excelled at. The Troggs also had a fair share of hypnotic-rock, as well as some others, both sides of the pond. Acoustic and/or electric, this sound was a real snake charmer and drew you in. Kudos. This caused me to subscribe and not only 'Like' the video, but many of the great comments below. Great way to start my day. Thanks.

People often say songs are ahead of their time, but just think about this being released in 1965 when the Beatles were still singing "Help!" or "Ticket to Ride." THIS is innovation. Recorded in EARLY 1965 I might add.

Ticket to ride is much better than this and much more innovated

Kinks/Beatles/others - all in 1965. Gets really technical but v interesting as to who wrote first, recorded first or released first.
@alejandrac.z.38175 ай бұрын

I have a question, maybe a slightly odd one. But anyway, so I wonder if sometime after this video but before say, maybe early 1970's, did Ray Davies have some plastic surgery done on his face? Here in this video he's got almost a lantern jaw, and a nose pushed to his left, maybe from an injury or a fight? I understand lots of English men have very distinctive features, but seeing several videos on the Kinks channel makes me think he's had his jawline contoured and a nose job, and possibly his front teeth capped. Was he jealous of Dave's more attractive features and wanted to be like him? Did he have low self esteem? He seems extremely uncomfortable being on camera, like he's looking for the exit. Thoughts? ☠️ 🐒🎾🤔
