My mother had a habit of buying us direct to VHS sequels of movies that we never saw the original of, and this was one of them. Aladin King (Prince?) of Thieves was another. um scott Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas is NOT an "unnecessary" movie. the soundtrack is dope, the new weird characters like fife and maestro are DOPE, animation super cool and creative with great use of cgi for 1997, YES 1997 WHEN IT CAME OUT...not to mention the backstory it gives to the beast about his abusive relationship with the organ guy, and where the beast learned his gaslighting tricks that he uses against belle in the original film. incredible use of diegetic music to set a haunting an uneasy mood as well. this terrifying piece of trash changed my childhood and made me the person i am today. i watched it so much as a kid that i went through a phase of drawing fan art that was exclusively Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas-themed cuz fife was my favorite character from ANY animated film, period. this random ass movie changed my childhood scoot.. are u serious right now ok yes it was a cash grab that made no sense whatsoever and should have been rated PG because it's horrifying. but tbh i'm just glad you acknowledged this hideous masterpiece so i know i didn't imagine it when i was 5

@@bubbles4897 i think it's supposed to be set during the timeline of the original movie, like a day in the life of belle & beast sort of deal. in the very beginning they frame it with the human mrs. potts telling her human son chip the "story of christmas" which takes place in the castle before the spell was broken. on one hand it's cool because you get to explore some character dynamics & relationships that we were introduced to in the first movie, on the other hand it's confusing and sort of hard to follow. so i see it like when tv show has a "christmas special" where all the characters are sort of just there, functioning at some point within the plotline of the series but it's not specified exactly when. i feel like if this film took place sequentially after the ending of the original beauty and the beast it would have been even more trash, because the most compelling parts of the story all happen before beast becomes human again. and there's clearly a lot to unpack. like if i wrote a beauty and the beast disney film fanfiction, not saying i would but if i did, i would probably want to set it at some point between when belle was captured and when the spell was broken as well, for maximum drama amongst the already existing characters...then of course add a few new characters, like they did with french ornament girl and maestro, to spice things up a little. what im saying is that this movie is basically a christmas-themed beauty and the beast cannon fanfic

It's honestly funny to me to see so many people talk about how much Forte scared them as kids, but I was finding interest in spooky, supernatural concepts at a young age so *I* remember thinking that he was really cool and made a creepy & compelling villain. Not only is Forte as scary as I remember, but also I forgot that he dies. Imagine having to clean up the corpse of a man whose soul was trapped in a giant church organ with a metalic human face. It'd take at least three days, and at some point, someone would have to lift the big, dead face. The rest of it would just feel like looking at a broken organ, but it would feel weird because it would feel like looking at a dead body.

I've been thinking about Disney's way of explaining Forte's motives, and a couple other things that they could've done to make him make a lot more sense. Here goes; Forte's magic power, as in the green music notes he uses as weapons and tools to open things, is rooted in sorrow. The sorrow of the Beast, the castle and all of its inhabitants manifests itself as ambient magical energy that just sits in the background, and Forte's music channels that power for his purposes. Perhaps this is an unintended side effect of the witch's magic that he discovered and was able to manipulate, or Forte himself was a spell-caster in his own right. Maybe even the gloom surrounding the castle would be enough to sustain Forte long after the last petal fell and all the other staff were permanently transformed, perhaps he'd outlive the Beast and even gain immortality. All of this simply through feeding off of the negative aura of his surroundings. The reason why Forte attempts to sabotage their love and keep the curse going was because if the curse was lifted, and love and joy and positive emotions filled the castle, his power source would run dry. He'd become a regular human, probably get fired 'cause no one wants emo organ music anymore. (Though I've heard some great, happy organ tunes, I doubt Forte knows anything other than the sad ones, and thus would be out of a job.) Not to mention all that power at his fingertips, the chance at immortality.. all gone. Even if he retained the ability to tap into sorrow after the curse was lifted, there'd be hardly any of it in the castle nowadays. However, to quote one of my other favorite KZbinrs, "But that's just a theory. A Film Theory." Thanks! =]

This movie ruined Beast's character and retconned the development he made after saving Belle from the wolves in the original movie. They literally made Belle and Beast's relationship into the case of stockholm "syndrome" that many viewers mistakenly think their relationship was in the first movie.

Oh god I loved this movie so much that when I was 8 (or 9, can’t remember) for HALLOWEEN I went as Christmas Belle. Everyone thought I was Mrs. Claus lmao. Rewatched this last Christmas with my sister and we had to stop it after 10 minutes. Not even nostalgia goggles could save it.

I watched this movie all the time when I was little. My dad hated it but he loved me so he just dealt with it. I had it on DVD and it wasn’t just one movie, it was a whole bunch of Disney Princess shorts and I wouldn’t just watch it around Christmas. It was literally any day of any month. Especially in the summer 😂 I loved it
