Scotty is absolutely right. I've been a Porsche owner and enthusiast for over 30 yrs. Never bought one brand new, always 2nd hand and do all the repair work myself. The only way to own them on a budget IMHO. They're not that bad to work on and actually very well designed and very very well documented. There's a huge community of enthusiast to support you too. That's always good. Those boxsters in particular are great fun project cars. The engines are somewhat fragile but work great as long as you take care of the well-known serious flaws and maintain them. You can even EV them, LS swap them or pretty much anything you want if the OE engine goes out. Is a great DIYer platform. They're great at that but they'll require more maintenance than a honda or toyota for sure. UHP tires wear out quicker than you think and it gets expensive quick if you daily them around a city. Also budget for 8-9 qts of oil + filter every 5K-7K miles.

My local Porsche dealer says they accept it and almost always get paid fast. He said, especially if you have service records. If your radiator leaks, the first thing they ask for is service records. Great car. Easiest car I ever worked on was a 986 Porsche Boxster. Expensive? Can be. Buying a 986 that maybe hasn't been used in a long while will be replacing parts. But the parts aren't expensive. Water pump thru Porsche costs over 500 USD. Thru the manufacturer, which is Pierburg, it cost me 220. Fuel pump same issue. Around 500 from a Porsche dealer or thru Pierburg who also made that pump, 200 bucks. Ims bearing is an overrated scare. It's a bearing. Yes it will fail. All bearings fail. But there is a rule of thumb in the 986/987 community.... if it went past 50k miles it won't break in a while. Which some bearings do get shipped bad. What's scarier than the IMS and more common? Bore scarring. Horizontal pistons scar the bore over time.

But sad for the ones who died in senseless wars never voted on by Congress which alone has the power to declare war. Yes, I served as did my father, uncles, cousins, etc.

At first I thought Scotty was going to be in a PT Cruiser Turbo with the automatic. I guess you could say that the Porsches that I grew up with were those 911s from the 70s and 80s. They were much more simple and were well built. It was said that you could fix them with a hammer. Values on those now are just outrageous.

I have a 05 boxster here in Houston. Maintained excellently. 5k oil changes with Liqui Moly. Driving on highway about 5 min hard, engine gave up. Had to pay 9k for a new engine and now it runs like before. I would never recommend a Boxster to anyone Not sure if it was just

It pays to do your homework, I got my late model Lexus Sc430 with 56k and it's immaculate for £10,500. Did the belt&water pump and it's been no trouble, just bought some minor trim fittings for about £25! . I'm going to change the transmission and diff fluid soon as per Scotty's advice 😉

Been thinking of getting one for a daily driver, maybe 30 miles a day. I've heard about the IMS bearing issue.

Bought a 2000 boxster S with manual trans. Blast to drive but be aware that you will sink $500-1000 every year in repairs as they age.

All old cars get costly to repair as parts age and fail. But Porsche isn't as expensive as many think. Cheaper than both Mercedes and BMW which are both more common

No, no, no. Some Porsche models experience failure of something called "Intermediate Shaft Bearing" If this fails, your engine may need replacement. That's why they're cheap to buy.
@EjinRenos3 жыл бұрын
That's actually overrated. All bearings will fail at some point and some did have early failures but overall the IMS was a scare to the few hundred or so owners who did have it happen to them.
