I suspect that what may have happened was the last few people in Bannard's crew for some reason swapped sides and tried to subdue him. Bannard must have been able to kill one of them and escaped which would explain the body in the tank. The remaining crew who turned must have been converted like Richard and went to the south pole for the future spire but ran across Bannard who then tried to destroy the last crew member but might have failed since the tube has pieces of the ice axe Bannard used but there's no signs/remains of Bannard to be found. If that's not the case it certainly makes me wonder what could have happened.

If you ever talk about an SCP that messes up the universes and jumps from one universe to another parallel one or something, you should render the image you're using here again (or photoshop it) and change "MILLAR" on the tag, with "MILLER", as well as pronounce your name that way. It'll be a fun little easter egg.

as someone who finds scp more of a guilty pleasure to anyone who enjoyed this article, do read "At the Mountains of Madness" if you haven't. It is one of my favorite horror stories and one of Lovecraft's best, and while this is very inspired, Lovecraft's original short story is amazing. It is much less about "spooky monsters in the antarctic" and more about scientists being some of the best depictions of scientists in fiction spending several hours doing meticulous scientific analysis about something incredibly terrifying. The "monsters" in said piece really only appear twice, aren't even what makes the story terrifying, and it's great.

Enjoying something doesn't mean you can't criticize or recognize the quality of a work. And while I like a lot of what the scp foundation stands for, both as a passion project and an avenue for amateur writing, it is an incredibly flawed piece of media. But that is why it is a guilty pleasure for "me". Because I still find inherent entertainment value and inspiration from the scp foundation, but I would not say it is wholely good either. And finally, the reason why in specific I mention this as a guilty pleasure is that this particular article has been compared heavily to "At The Mountains of Madness". And I provide my recommendation because as best as the author of this scp article did to try and make an analog to Lovecrafts short story, people should read the original work since it is to me is a better written work of media. And this piece loses details from the original that do not keep it to the same level of quality in writing. Edit: the important thing here is that it is a guilty pleasure to "me". I have felt I have experienced better works of fiction since discovering the scp foundation, and that is my experience. If that is not the case for you, then that is fine. Not everyone sees the same things as a guilty pleasure

This SCP is actually connected to the GOI "The Church of the Second Hytoth", which is the Earth branch of a universal extraterrestrial religion called "Ortothanism", which centered around 7 former mortals-turned-gods who stand guard at the edge of our reality against beings that come from outside it seeking to destroy it. They slowly died out and there is only one god left, and because the ritual that turned them into gods was incomplete they still bleed. So, their worshippers willingly give their own blood as part of a thaumaturgic ritual in order to transmit to them and revitalize them to continue the fight. This is what the aliens meant when they said "Protect existence" and one of the others talking about "everyone should give their blood". These weren't villianous invaders with malevolent plans, these were religious travelers who must've accidentally crashed on Earth in the Antarctic, and were trying to terraform the area in order for them to live. Sadly, fear and miscommunication led to their deaths.

A lot of this, with the implications of gods and greater purposes, really leaves a lot to develop. The thought that the SCP may be trying to protect the existence of itself and the universe from a far more powerful anomaly or being. My hope always with these SCP forms is that the authors return to them and continue the stories, either through updates to the files or with tales. Maybe someday the existence SCP 4431-A will be fully known, or a Dominance Shift/End-of-the-world scenario could be theorized. That maybe the actions of Bannard and his crew would invoke the wrath of a god, or that the spread of 4431-D and the creatures associated with it could take over the world. It’s all really just an interesting SCP overall and very well thought out.

I love your longer videos, they always afford me a chance to do deeper thinking and get myself organized mentally. This video was an odd choice of topic since as of recently I have been learning more about Antarctica and some of the stuff that happens there. Mostly because of some science courses I had to take for graduation. This is a crazy place, made even crazier based on the fact that underwater videos have been coming forward more often. Antarctica has some pretty interesting secrets it hasn't revealed just yet. With that in mind I was in for the long run on the video, it was a journey through some seriously weird flavored ice tones, and just - I dunno for some reason I keep thinking "soylent green is people" sort of vibes. The strangeness of the collapse, so quickly followed by a slowly degrading explorer was something that drew me in as the journey only seemed to worsen. I am not even sure what to make of the spire at the end, I just know that I don't want anything to do with that chunk of land. Thanks for the long listen, I really enjoy these narrations as they give me a chance to relax into the story and get a good amount of work done. Keep up the great work :3

Great lovecraftian story, well done whomever wrote this and nice delivery volgun, as always. My headcanon on this one is: these are either aliens or old ones that have found a large part of mechains body and have founded their own church of the broken god. Edit: after listening to the rest... Maybe not...

This could be a script for a reboot At the Mountains of Madness if the movie had ever come out, the Foundation research would be a framing device for basically a flashback of the initial expedition, and then at the end you'd see foreshadowing of a sequel with "a new discovery" in the present, and then because it's a Foundationverse setup movie, you'd get only glimpses of the actual SCP name or symbol and then a post credit sequence of like an O5 meeting on a different anomaly but you only see shadowy figures on computers and one real person.

Bro honestly this is a close to perfect match to the elder things of H.P. Lovecrafts Cthulhu Mythos and I was very impressed with this. Glad to see real terror and wanting to contain something that aint a chair or statue, but of things that far exceed human understanding and bring a primordial terror in the face of the unknown. Good shit dude!
