Road King, when you run that air tool it reminds me of the dentist. However, your results are much better. So...you watch Old Car Alley. I love his current project. One of my older brothers used to own a 1966 Ford Galaxie and his car brings back many fond memories. I used to date in that car...I wish I could afford it when he is through with it. It will be like a brand new car. I can tell that when you are through with this '64 Ford pickup it will be pretty righteous, as well. I love watching real craftsmen at work. However, it does make me a bit envious.

I'm sure you know but that's a 67-72 tailgate. It's very clean. It's nearly impossible to find a 64-66 that's not completely rotted. The 6 year run vs 3 year run of the 64-66 also makes them harder to find.

Yeah it will probably only be temporary!! The tailgate on my 65 F250 parts truck is pretty rough but I think we can save it!! I won't be tackling that till after this thing is finished!!☺

Yea, sand blasting is fine for the really big (truck frames) or the really small. (door hinges). Thin metal just makes more work. I can’t believe how nice that tailgate it to start with.

I think you should try to splice in the old tailgate lettering. I think it's a pretty defining feature of the tailgate. I have a 1972 F100, and the replacement tailgate is the correct one for it, but I think the letter would look weird on a pre-1967.

That tail gate cleaned up nice. I like the Scotch Bright on the Dremel. Are you using the cut off wheel thing, to hold the pad? Thats a great idea! I did scrape the edges of my fenders, but never thought to do that on the outer body. I had sand after scraping the edges... a Scotch Brightened Dremel sounds like a big time saver. Thank you for mentioning my channel. Howard

@@805ROADKING I have a ton of brown scuff pads.... going to make some, to clean the fender edges, after I scrap them. Got the underside of the hood to clean up too, but thats not going down to bare steel. I am just going to clean it, and scuff it up, so the paint sticks.

I have to agree with you on the sandblasting I got a cheap one cause I thought it would be cool but I can’t stand getting it all down my clothes and in my hair then you gotta clean all that shit out of your parts I rarely use it anymore It’s probably only effective when done professionally on the whole car like you see on tv shows

I was wondering, at the 16:45 part of the video that crevice you were working on from factory looks unfinished. Are you going to seam seal those crevices or body putty or weld them to clean up that seam so it doesnt look like two pieces of metal that overlap and have a gap?
@805ROADKING
@805ROADKING 4 жыл бұрын
It's funny you brought that up!! I mentioned in the next video that I've seen that area seam sealed on some trucks and not on some others, but you wouldn't know that because I didn't post the video yet!! I'll probably seam seal it, it gives it a cleaner finished look!! I did close that gap on the overlap a little and weld it from the side!!☺
