One of my best friends is a 6'2", lanky cishet man. He is dating my other best friend, who is nonbinary. I have never seen a more enthusiastic ally in my entire life. He's incredibly supportive of his partner's identity as well as everyone else's (a good chunk of our friend group is also trans enby including myself ^-^). He is comfortable with identifying as straight and is very secure about his identity. But, his one exception is that he has a massive gay crush on Gordon Ramsay. I also will never forget when my best friend officially got their legal name changed, and he surprised them with a cake that had their full chosen name spelled out in icing. The only thing, was that while he spelled both their first and middle name (the ones they got changed) right, despite dating for five years at this point, he spelled their last name wrong. We have never let him live it down. My best friend and I also discovered that I'm basically dating the fruity variant of him (my boyfriend is also 6'2". He, like my friend's bf, is also Jewish and works in IT). The only difference is that he wears a lot more colorful clothing (rainbow tie dyes and the like) and is bisexual. When each of our tall mans met for the first time, we found out my boyfriend is actually a 1/4 inch taller than friend's bf. After admitting defeat, he replied "curse you my Alolan Variant."

I can relate. How you feel will probably change over time. Bad or good, feeling something for him is less sad than feeling nothing at all. For what it is worth, I'm still working on it after almost twenty years since they passed. Best I've managed is to stop seeing the monster I felt he was when I was younger. I got older and started to see the pressures and trauma that shaped him. Saw the scared and flawed human buried in the anger. Maybe that is enough. Just being able to look back and say "I get it", that I don't have to chew over the "Why?" of things so much anymore. Hope you find an answer you are satisfied with some day.

Back when to get the uncensored version untouched by "it's a cartoon so it must be for kids" editing you had to know the guy who knew the guy who knew the guy that worked at the super-sketch video store who would sell you crap quality taped-off-Japanese-television-with-the-weird-ass-commercials fansubs on VHS. Or spend *days* on Napster or Limewire trying to download a single episode over dialup and praying nobody would need the phone when it was at 99%. Though as an elder otaku, I am also *extremely* happy that all the bitty baby weebs don't have to deal with that shit and can easily and affordably get good quality anime in quantities that 90s me would weep to have.
