I wish you would go back and look at the series as a whole, the way its developed every season is remarkable. They really built on every action Dory has taken and it all leads so well to the season 4 finale. A dark comedy with exceptional writing and a sharp look at the idea of Millennials in modern society.

I decided to binge watch season 1 after watching and then promptly pausing about 33 seconds into this video. Very nice review BTW. (Spoilers, duh) I found the twist to be particularly deflating because Kieth was set up like a sort of Tyler Durden/Mr. Robot character. In the sense that aside from the main character, (Dory) Kieth was never seen, nor did he interact with any other character. The whole time I was thinking things like "Kieth isn't real" "how could Drew have not seen Kieth's messages too?" "see, Kieth conveniently showed up after all the other characters left" "yeah, he's definitely not real"... And I was wholeheartedly expecting Drew to walk into the kitchen only to find Dory attacking herself... But when it didn't play out like that in the least, I felt like I was left holding the bags... It was brilliant. The deception was so subtle, and seemed like it was meant to catch anyone who thought they were clever (like me) and make them feel dumb for expecting something predictable. I really enjoyed it.

Big time! Stoked for Season 2, this is a great recap of how the Season 1 finale could have be easily overlooked or dismissed as "weird." It definitely opens up for the possibility for a wild Season 2. Nice work, Jackson!

Literally just binged all of your videos! I love this channel!! You do a great job of looking at shows with a different perspective than most people do, without it feeling like you’re trying to force a different narrative onto the show. I now have a long list of shows I want to watch because you also introduce shows I may not have been interested in watching.

Now having finished season 5, the writing is so good and tight that they foreshadow everything in the 1st season. I thought this show was hilarious and as wild as it gets, everything that happens (as outlined in this excellent analysis of season 1) is meaningful and in keeping within the absurd world of Dory, Portia, Elliot and Drew. This amazing amazing satire with elements of Peter Seller’s Chauncey Gardiner, Arrested Development, Edgar Wright’s cornetto trilogy etc etc is a 21st century masterpiece. The more chaotic it gets the more hilarious it becomes, Dory and her unfortunate best friends/victims being symbolic of our times and our pathetic and ridiculous search for meaning. We are all in the search party and all we find is Chantel.

---- spoilers ahead ----- Great analysis. I wish Dory would've have called the cops and explained that it was self defense. It would also keep Elliot and Portia out of trouble. I thought it was unfair that she and Drew were depicted as cold blooded murderers by the public at season 3. But then she actually turned into a villain (or that's what we are made to believe) as she does not feel remorse and constantly denies what she has done. I haven't watched the 4th season yet and I'm wondering how the show will conclude.
@kassandrakid9440

This is my honest opinion. I think it was self-defense. Even though she says well maybe he was just talking to me, we see very clearly that he was not “just talking to“her. When she tased him she didn’t expect his head to hit the corner of the counter. He sort of wants towards her to try to get her attention. I still don’t know if he is a creep or not. I definitely get creepy vibes from him for sure 100%. So, once he woke up with that head wound, she was immediately at his side panicking and crying and apologizing and asking how can I help fix this and all these other things. She was in a complete panic because she had hurt somebody unintentionally. Now the next part is what is incredibly important for my point of you. Keith got violently angry and he pinned her down while he was screaming at the top of his lungs calling her a bitch telling her why are you playing games etc. It was clearly enough for Drew to come in and be like holy shit this is totally fucked, i’m gonna kill him so that he stops attacking the woman that I love. It’s a simple as that. Now I do understand that in a court of law the fact that she tased him first when she was confused and modeled and couldn’t exactly tell if he was attacking her or if he was just talking to her… That could’ve been a problem for the trial of course. However, as I just said before, he was absolutely not just talking to her. He had her pinned down with his blood dripping on her face he looked like he was going to kill her. I probably would’ve done the exact same thing that Drew had done. I don’t think it matters that she taste them first. She warned him many times to stay away and he decided to go towards her. Bad choice. He also was completely either ignoring or just plain disrespecting the fact that she was totally uncomfortable being around him after she slept with him that first time. Some thing freaked her out to the point that she didn’t want to shower with him she just wanted to get the fuck out of there. That’s exactly what she did. Good for her. This guy, Keith, is a total creep in my opinion. If someone cannot read somebody else’s body language in a sexual situation when the person is obviously distraught and their body is freezing up or flinching up, then that is a huge problem. Sexual coercion is sexual assault/rape. If you have to coerce the person it is a no! Pay attention to people‘s body language. People don’t just have the flight and flight response. People tend to forget about the Freese response. This is what happened with Dori. She froze and she was in a state of shock even before he attacked her. Yeah she tasted him first, but she told him very clearly to stay away. She said it several times in a very serious tone of voice. He should’ve backed off. But instead he came closer and slightly lunged towards her in order to do… I don’t know exactly what. This is already after he totally ignored her body language when he was being creepy to her when she told him the lie about Chantel being in Miami. It really bothers me that these things haven’t been addressed yet in the movie. I am hoping that the next season or two ends up giving some of the reasons behind this stuff. I won thousand percent believe it was self-defense. Dori is not a murderer. She was obsessed and she had her issues but she was not a murderer. I mean, her actions didn’t even end up resulting in his death. It was Drew that had that statue which a bludgeoned key to death with. Just one strike. That’s all it took. Nobody have a lack of remorse. Not even Elliott. Remember how Elliott freaked the fuck out while they were digging? I really Love this show a lot and it does take a lot to impress me admittedly. But I really hope that they answer some of these questions in the following seasons. I am not OK with Dori being portrayed as a murderer. Yes once they found out that Chantel was full of it the killing of Keith is definitely what consumes them.

If you've ever seen David Mamet's Homicide, you'll recognize that season one of search party follows the same pattern. Someone gets so obsessed with a conspiracy they fail to see that things are not as complicated as they appear and it leads to some very bad, undoable things.

This show is brilliant. My wife and I are in the middle of season 3 now, but when we started watching we were confused about what this show was actually about... Although it was still very compelling. Of course, at the end of season one you find out. I've never experienced a tv show before that can make me laugh so hard, but also make me sick to my stomach with how serious it is. In a normal TV show, the writers would find a way to get the characters cleanly out of their terrible situation and just go on letting them be silly and care free. I've put myself in the characters shoes and thought about how heavy it would be to be trapped in that situation and I love that the writers aren't scared to put the characters through some of the most serious shit a human being can go though, and also take wild narrative turns to make the show about something completely other than what you expected. It's just a terrific piece of filmmaking in every aspect. Also, if you look at season one in isolation, it's a good self contained story about letting your imagination get the better of you, but to me, it's really just to set the table for what comes next in the subsequent seasons. Kind of like the end of season one of game of thrones isn't just about the amazing twist of ned stark -- who you might think it's the main character - getting beheaded... It's just to set up for what the show is actually about, which is the squabble for the iron throne.

Hey, I have a very similar preference in shows as you do so when there's a show I haven't watched yet that you cover I try to watch it first and having the word Twist in the title really threw me off, telling people there'll be a twist is a spoiler! :(
@SkipIntroYT
@SkipIntroYT 6 жыл бұрын
I struggled with whether to include that in the title for a while but ultimately I decided it was okay. While I agree that that is a spoiler to some degree, this is a mystery show, and the entire season is setting up a detective story. From the beginning of the show, I would argue, you are expecting a twist of some kind, as you might in any story in a true crime or murder mystery genre. You definitely shouldn’t watch this video if you do want to watch Search Party as it’s riddled with the juiciest spoilers, but I don’t think that saying there is a twist of some kind is a spoiler in this particular case.

Contrarily, I pretty much hated Search Party. I found most of it boring and dull. I never liked the idea of combining 'mystery' and 'comedy' anyway. In this video, you tell us why the finale is great but it wasn't worth watching the nine episodes before.

Also I've come up with this theory that if a person of Indian origin creates an American comedy series, which receives a 100 % on RT, then I'm going to hate that show. I also regretted watching 'Master of None'.
