At least they remastered a few scenes for the recent-ish documentary. They look absolutely stunning! It has major spoilers for those who haven't finished the series yet, of course, but IMO it's essential viewing for those who loved the show.
@tomsamper434527 күн бұрын
Unfortunately they can’t remaster it so much, at least not the typical ways. When it came to TOS and TNG everything that was put in the episodes, even the special effects that were rendered were recorded on physical film which could be scanned and adjusted and fine tuned for an upscale because it is a photo, but a lot of the effects that were used in DS9 involved the very early days of computer rendered effects and as happens with a lot of things when they are just beginning to be used in their early days, the digital assets that were used to make the effects simply weren’t saved they were discarded to make room for new things when they had served their purpose, so the process to upscale DS9 would require either A: extensive digital interpolation and animation to replace existing effects, B: finding the original uncut footage (much of which was itself likely destroyed) and re-editing everything exactly to footage and making new effects for all of their shots, or C the use of AI models to create some form of upscale but these models are themselves only partly reliable and create many fragments or artifacts that are undesired from the final product. Any option to make it look good would be INCREDIBLY expensive and labor intensive for a relatively small audience with negligible financial windfall so getting a remaster of the series is very unlikely.

A Call To Arms: SO many amazing scenes! Rom's speech to Leeta is very much from Casablanca....and really, Casablanca has always been the template for DS9. SO, Kira, Odo, Jake, Rom, Quark and Morn remain on the station while... Sisko, Dax, Miles, Julian, Nog and Garak will be with Starfleet! Worf and Martok will be with the Klingons! This episode had, by far, the most Federation ships ever seen onscreen at the end...but just for now. Soon, Ollie- soon you'll be blown away by space battles like you've never seen! By ground combat grim enough to shake you, losses that will break you and heroism so epic, you'll be surprised Luke Skywalker isn't at the Defiant 's helm!

So many cool details like that spread throughout.

A few things about "A Call to Arms." Bajor and the Station could not be defended in a war footing. It would have spread Starfleet too thin to hold it. It was outside Federation space. With Bajor out of the fighting and the Wormhole blocked it gave Starfleet time. This also calls back to a scene in a past ep where Sisko under a trance by the Prophets says Bajor can not join the Federation yet. Had Bajor joined then they would have been destroyed here as a Federation Member World. And the DS9 battle scene was full of reused fx shots. I would mention them but that could mean spoilers for you about other seasons/shows.

DS9 may never have gotten to the big screen but with episodes like Call To Arms, Way Of The Warrior and a few others it was certainly the most "cinematic" of the Star Trek TV series.
