How to bypass a mechanical chime for Ring Video Doorbell Pro. We are using the Ring V2 power kit to bypass the chime. If you don't want to upgrade your Ring Doorbell Pro's transformer bypassing the chime is a good alternative.

Hey guys. Nice video. Thanks for posting it. One thing you can do if you want to, is after taking the wires off the terminals, is cut and strip back new wire, if you have the slack. It's easy, and gives you straight wire to work with. The inevitable kinks in existing wire can cause connection problems. (I have been an electrician for 30 years). Try not to touch the copper if you can avoid it. Thanks.

FYI your trick to switch doorbell type helped me a ton. The extra power diverting to the doorbell in my house would drop the voltage and reset my ring, making it useless if run. Now that I changed the settings and it doesn't ring inside I don't have to change the transformer (which I haven't been able to locate). I really appreciate the help.

Same here!! I couldn't sync my Ring chime Pro to save my life and my transformer was buzzing like crazy. With a flip of a toggle switch on my phone, I was able to bypass my original transformer and sync my Ring Chime Pro! I all but given up on it until I saw this video and read your comment!! Thanks!

If your Ring Doorbell Pro doesn't have power after bypassing the mechanical chime. Turn off your breaker to the doorbell for 10 seconds then turn it back on. The version 2 power kit has a resettable fuse that may have tripped. The only way to reset the power kit is to turn the power off to it.

So according to videos and Ring, some say you need to buy a higher volt transfer to make this work others have this whole wiring system to make it work. I saw this video i seen how you didn't go through the mechanical and you just bypass that. I actually saw this and went through my system check and saw mine was on None function. I switched mine over to mechanical without bypassing and it works. Almost went through the trouble of spending money to buy a transformer. So this was helpful

So I must have not gotten the same power kit you have, I could not pull wires out, so what I did was, used electrical tape and wrapped each wire to the tip of power kit, easily done and solved my problem, if your chime is buzzing or making random noises, or if your ring is saying Poor voltage, this will fix it thanks great video

Great video, something I did not know you could do with the V2 kit, however if you already have it installed as you originally did, there is an option in the settings to turn off your chime, mechanical or otherwise if you don’t want to bother with any unnecessary rewiring. Thanks for the informative video!

I'm remotely helping my daughter with her ring video pro. She has everything like this video, but it's an electronic chime? She says the electronic chime a) doesn't ring anymore (she turned it off in the app?) and b) on very cold nights recently, just the electronic chime goes off a few times during the night. But no one at the door / ring doesn't seem to reboot or be affected. So she wants to take the electronic chime out of the circuit. I thought just hook ring to transformer. Some other pages talk of a resister needed. You show keeping the power pack in series? a) Can anyone explain what the powerpack does when it was in the original circuit with the chime and b) What is it doing now / why you can't just connect the ring to transformer? THANKS!

So, what did you accomplish by doing this? Did you take your doorbell chime off line? So when someone rings the door bell, it no longer chimes? What does that small unit, inside the chime actually do? Does it send a notification to your phone that someone is ringing the bell? Would have been good for you to continue to show this in your video. Thanks

Did you turn the power off before you installed, then back on after? So in bypass the power kit has a resettable fuse. To reset it you turn the power off wait 10 seconds and turn it back on. That will reset the internal fuse. If that doesn’t work to see if the power kit is bad connect both wires together (trans, front). If that works, most likely you received a defective power kit.

Very good video @sellgooddeals DIY ! I just have one question: if I want to do this, the wires that will go directly to the Pro Power Kit should still bring 16V? What happens if I do this bypass, but the wiring is bringing 110-120V (like there is no transformer at all)? Would appreciate your help, thank you!

Will this stop the buzz and random ring every 30 or so seconds? I just installed my Pro and by process of elimination figured out what three of the four wires on my mechanical doorbell are, which are labeled 0, 1, 2, & 3. 0 appears to be the three wires from the transformer in my basement utility room. And I figured out 1 is the front door. HOWEVER, when I attach the kit to 0 & 1, the doorbell (mechanical) rings every 30 or less seconds and also has a soft buzz. If I switch it to 2 or 3, the same thing but with loud buzzing. I disconnected the kit but am still getting soft to medium buzzing, but not the ringing. In order to bypass, I need another wire to be able to bridge it from the transformer to the front bell so I can keep the back bell. Any thoughts on whether or not this will stop the buzzing? From what I've read, the Pro is making the circuit partway closed, as if someone is *almost* pressing the doorbell button, but not enough to close the circuit completely and make a continuous electrical flow. So that makes the doorbell *almost* start to ring, but instead buzzes. Makes sense to me that bypassing would stop that altogether. And I assume using the power kit would still give the added power the Pro might need? I'll look for something I can use for a wire perhaps tomorrow and post again if it works if I don't get an answer sooner. Thanks for the video, though - very helpful! (btw, I still haven't figured out why there are 4 wires instead of 3 on my mechanical ( 0=T, 1=F, 2=B?, & 3=??).)

I used one of the spare power kit cables that came with the Ring Pro and stripped the plug part off and used it to form a jumper from the transformer wire screw to the power kit bypass hole, then took the wire off of #1 screw and put that into the other hole of the power kit bypass. All Ring alerts and my Chime work, and no more buzz or front doorbell. I think my back Ring doorbell no longer rings the mechanical bell (lol), but as long as I got rid of the buzz, I am happy! Couldn't sleep much last night!

@sellgooddeals-DIY
@sellgooddeals-DIY 3 жыл бұрын
To be able to use your rear door you need to hook up the transformer wire back up to the trans (transformer) wire. terminal on the chime. Then you need to run a small wire from the trans terminal on the chime to the power kit. So, the power kit should have the front wire and a wire from the chime trans screw. On the chime itself you should have rear hooked up, the transformer wire should be connected to trans and a wire going to the power kit. Let me know if that makes sense.

So, lets say someone does not want a nasty ugly antiquated eye sore doorbell on the wall. They have two wires coming out of the wall, on goes to the front door button (where the August door bell is) and the other is obviously is the power going to a transformer. The two white wires were of each cable are tied together and the two red wires went to the doorbell chime i removed. Can I can just tie the two red wires together? Put some wire nuts on them, lots of electrical tape and shove it back in the hole?
